Depo provera and hair growth

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and hair growth

depo-provera

Avatar n tn you can always call your pharmacist and ask to make sure. My husband and I are TTC and I took the Depo shot twice and stopped 11/04 and then started BCP till 8/05 and havent had a period since except with provera. I think the Depo is still in my system and is screwing everything up. I hope the provera works for you and best of luck with the clomid.
Avatar f tn of 2011 and I am still without a period, still cramping, and have had severe hormonal changes, including the severe onset of hirsutism (hair growth that is dark and coarse in places typical of male body hair, such as on the face and torso) and it is driving me insane. Any suggestions on how to cope with this?
Avatar f tn My main concern is hair loss, I've read horror stories about people losing all their hair on Depo Lupron, or if becoming thinner. My hair is very very thin and I'm younger than 25 I do not want to lose my hair.. Also, did anyone have their periods return after treatment? Previous to my diagnosis with Endo I was on the Depo Shot birth control, and currently on the nexplanon paired with Noethindrone to stop my bleeding. The birth controls alone did not stop the constant brown bleeding.
Avatar f tn My question is why is my bleeding not stopping completely on provera although its been 2 weeks i started taking them and the bleeding is moderate during the dayt and light during the night, I am soaking 2 to 3 pads per day .. Avatar f tn I have never had any problems with oily skin or oily hair ever. I wash my hair daily and condition. I have not changed my daily regimen in 2 years One thing I have tried was applied Shower to Shower powder to my hair before going to bed and washed out in the morning (not the sexiest looking thing at night but it helps). It drastically reduced the oil, but came back 2 days later. The only thing I worry about is clogging the glands that are producing the oil, so I don't do it daily...
Avatar n tn I have done some research and even tried a few things that seems to help the hair growth and mood swings. 1. Hoursetail (can buy in any health food shop) boosts the growth and this I swear on. 2. fruit and veg and other healthy foods (incl. soy) 3. Exersise 4. Sleep 5. Dont worry to much - it will stop once your body has balanced itself. 6. Iron and vitamin suppliments (vit B I heard will boost hair loss) 7. Just wait until its over...cut your hair or keep it in a scarf 8.
Avatar n tn Hello, This is a tough question to respond to without additional information. Some of this may be related to Depo (acne, hair growth) and there are women who are normal weight and have PCOS (although they usually still have menstrual irregularities). If you feel like these changes are drastic you should visit with your ob/gyn or even a medical endocrinologist. Best regards, Dr.
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar f tn I haven't had a blood test ever since but my hair is falling and it worries me a lot. The only advantage I noticed was a very slight breast growth. What should I do?
1344197 tn?1392822771 Higher dosages have been associated with elevated cholesterol, triglycerides, male pattern hair growth, and acne. So what are the FDA-approved Bioidentical Hormones?
Avatar m tn With all due respect Msniki412, Metformin"glucophage" is not always the answer and nor does it always help. The question is why did an otherwise healthy women get pcos? and why if she already eats healthy and exercizes normally should she need a medication like glucophage for border line insuline resistance/insuline resistance aka diabetes? why would a healthy woman who like i said before eats well, excersizes routinely be subject to pcos in the first place?
Avatar n tn There's a very similar thread on this site re Depo Provera injections and thyroid issues. I have similar concerns. I've had Depo and now on my second Implanon and am being treated for hypothyroidism. I am very much questioning whether there is a causal link.. My first instinct was that the Depo caused my thyroid issues.
Avatar f tn 6 or so months after starting Depo-provera birth control my hair started falling out, thinning dramatically and my skin/hair got EXTREMELY oily. I got 2 more shots thinking it will subside. It has been 5-6 months since skipping my shot appointment and I have balding spots, and extremely thin hair..still falling out, including still having to wash my hair every day. I had my thyroid checked before my insurance was taken away, and it was fine. When will this correct itself? Will it ever?
363243 tn?1331037450 I'm on Spironolactone, which has softened my hair, and it has slowed down the hair growth, some places my hair has gone, but this process takes months of taking the med (+6months) to see any difference. I still get hair on my chin, but most of my hirsuitism has been on my stomach, thighs and legs. I'm down to shaving every other day now, sometimes I can go 3 days. I was shaving twice a day in the summer before. I'm too old to go on the pill, but I think this has worked better!
Avatar n tn thinks either adenomyosis or endo, but she told me if yaz doesnt help the next step might be the depo provera shot I dont know much about it but that may be a possibility for you, or possibly even lupron depo she suggested, even though I think you get many side effects from it. It's like a fake menopause! Well good luck lemme know how things works out!
Avatar n tn I was just diagnosed with PCOS about a month ago, and I'm in my last few day of my cycle.( I can' t remember the last time before this) Well I must say, and I'm sure you can all agree, that the most upsetting and deperssing, physically (besides being shaped like an M&M) is the hair, not just a llittle hair on you face, but I have hair on my stomach and some around my nipples.
Avatar n tn This is often associated with the polycystic ovarian syndrome (notable for irregular periods, hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovaries--these women often are obese, have male pattern hair growth and coarse hair, and show signs of insulin resistance). She should see an ob/gyn to be evaluated for the above, as well as for other potential causes of irregular periods including an elevated prolactin level, abnormal thyroid hormone, potential pregnancy, and uterine polyps.
Avatar f tn the patch,nuva-ring,depo-provera, and just about every pill you can think of. Not only did they not work but they caused the worst side effects and I am not allergic to anything. I have been controlling my diet for some time now watching my carb intake and was on glucophage for a while with no results. I have irregular periods sometimes a year on and a year off and extremely they are usually heavy and painful.

Avatar n tn insulin resistance, obiecity, infertility, achne, abnormal hair growth, and high blood pressure. The maind symtom is Lack of Period caused by insulin resistance. Sometimes woman with this disorder have a thyroid problem also. I hope this was helpful.
Avatar n tn I too noticed this sticky crown issue about a week ago. I am 26 and do not have any more stress in my life than usual. I am on the Depo-Provera shot for birth control and read that Depo-Ralovera (a very similar shot) can cause greasy hair. (http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/symptoms/greasy_hair/side-effects.htm) I wonder if I could have received the wrong shot when I was in about 2 weeks ago, the names are so similar.
Avatar f tn My acupuncturist and the specialist seem to think these symptoms are a result from having bladder infections in the past (I have a sensitive bladder), DOES ANYONE THAT HAS A SENSITIVE BLADDER, or have had many bladder infections in the past, and HAVE SIMILAR symptoms as me? I've seen 2 doctors and 1 specialist, none have really told me anything and ALL tests always come back negative (I was tested for herpes as well.
Avatar n tn This syndrome is notable for infrequent menstruation (oligomenorrhea), hyperandrogenism (this may be evidenced by excess hair growth in a male distribution) and slightly enlarged ovaries with multiple small follicles. 2 of these 3 elements are all that is needed to make the diagnosis. Commonly, women who meet this diagnosis are obese and have evidence of insulin resistance.

Avatar n tn She said she took SEVERAL HPT and 2 blood ALL NEGATIVE. Finally when her Doc gave her a RX for provera to start her period she was tested one more time 12/9 almost a month later she FINALLY GOT a positive blood test. Her Docs theory is she just ovulated VERY late in her cycle that month!!! How crazy is that!!? It took almost a WHOLE month for her to show positive for pregnant. I mean you are alittle further than a month though. Have you got an ultrasound?
