Depo provera and estrogen

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and estrogen

Avatar f tn I was on depo for three years and went off of it in 2011 because I had clots in my lungs. Until this day we have not figured out what caused my clots. We have done tons of tests which have all came back negative. Could the depo have caused my blood clots?
Avatar f tn I tried doubling up on the nasal spray since I was prescribed the wrong strength, but it did not help. I had my second Depo Provera shot on December 7. I thought it would help make the bleeding stop, but I am still bleeding. I have also tried a estrogen pill I was prescribed, but it has not helped. I know I will have light bleeding on the Depo Provera, but is it normal to be bleeding for 37 days? I have not felt like myself lately and I am having trouble doing my everyday activities.
Avatar n tn To re-hash, I was put on Depo-Provera for endometriosis. I'm at the end of the second month of its three month effective range, and everything's been fine so far. (I had surgery on 5/17, light bleeding until about the beginning of the second week of June, then nothing since *yay*). For the past 3-4 days, I've been getting that 'pre-period' feeling (slightly *ugh*, little crampy on the side where the cyst was, and mucousy discharge.
Avatar f tn Goodman, I wonder if you have any information about how Depo-Provera can change the symptoms of ovarian cancer v. ovarian cysts? I have been on Depo-Provera for two years and it seems that it would mask all the symptoms that are most likely to identify a cyst vs. a tumour. Do you know anything about how the two would look different in the presence of Depo-Provera?
Avatar f tn He told me that he was going to try the Depo Provera shot, because that would be a more effective pain reducer and would help the endo from not coming back. I took the shot in the middle of December 2013, and started bleeding the beginning of January. I was not due to take the next shot until March, but I was still bleeding in February consistently. I called the doctor again and said that I was still bleeding, and they told me that I could either come and take the 2nd shot early or wait it out.
Avatar n tn Woman should be informed more of the consequences of taking Depo-provera and really Understand!! The impact this shot can and will have on your life. Why destroy your life to prevent one. Read up and become more knowledgable about the side effects the posion you are putting in your body. Everyday you loose a piece of your womanhood some women unfortunately will never get back.
432411 tn?1206475709 I took depo provera for about 6 years, starting in 2000. Just over three months after I stopped taking the shots I developed a nodule in my neck which was eventually diagnosed as thyroid cancer. I have absolutely no history of thyroid problems of any kind in family and I had had no problems before the depo.
Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
Avatar n tn I was on depo provera and gained 40 pounds in 6 months... my dr. told me that the hormones that are in it mess with your body bad... If i were you i would get off it and try a differnt means of birth control... It has also been proven to increasse your chance of Osteoporosis! I also had the same problem as you... almost spotting for 3 months, when that happened (along with the weight gain) my dr. made me get off it...
Avatar n tn I went in for my Depo-Provera shot, and a few minutes after I got home the doctor called and said "Sorry, we gave you Depo-Lupron instead of the shot you were supposed to get." I am freaking out! What are the possible side effects of this, am I still safe to have unprotected sex with my husband, will this have any permenant effects on my overies or on my body at all? Do I need to contact a lawyer? Any info you have will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn You girls have to discontinue Depo Provera at once and I highly recommend never putting any hormones into your bodies ever again. I have experienced a living nightmare from Depo Prover for the past three years. After I got the Depo shot I went home and researched on the web about the drug. I cried for three hours in fear that that could happen to me. What happened was worse. Five days after the shot a menstrual cycle started that would not cease. It wasn't a normal cycle.
Avatar f tn When i was receiving the depo shot the only thing it made me do was gain weight!! The doctors say that not all women gain weight on it!!
Avatar f tn is the depo shot a bad birth control me and my boy friend havent had sex in 4 months and i think its because of the depo shot that my period hasnt stop This discussion is related to Depo Shot.
Avatar f tn Laser is used by unskilled surgeons and it only removes the surface of the disease and you want it cut out as estrogen feeds the Endo growth and estrogen is inside the Endo lesions so if you don't fully cut them out they will just continue to grow and nothing will help. Lupron and visanne I did throughout the last 8 yrs. Lupron 9 months and visanne 3. The depot shot though I have no done but I would expect the same results as Lupron however some people like that a lot better than Lupron.
Avatar f tn I have 2 children, 10 years old and 7 years old, and have hot flashes during the day, and worse at night, along with cold sweats. The reason the doctor insisted on the depo was because of maternal family history of estrogen-fed breast cancer. My question is whether the depo shot is inducing menopause hot flashes, or do I need to be concerned about other things, such as cancer. One sign of cancer is night sweats. I also have unexplained bruising sometimes.
Avatar f tn You had started with Depo provera shots in late June and have got prolonged bleeding since July. I assure you that there is no need to panic. Heavy and prolonged bleeding are common side effects of starting Depo shots and usually it takes 3 months for such menstrual irregularities to settle down.Depo shots are to be given every three months, so for the first shot this kind of menstrual irregularity can occur.
Avatar n tn here is my web site and depo group web address. please feel free to take a look and ask me questions!!! love...kimmie
Avatar f tn I will never go on Depo Provera again. My daughter was on Depo Provera at college, and discontinued the shot and has lost that weight and is thin again.'s free site has helped me keep up with my carb intake, and also tells me how many calories, how much fat etc. I use. It does this automatically when I put my food in for the day. Also Magic Bus has a forum where you can learn how to lose weight quick and even post on a challenge to keep you honest and responsible.
Avatar n tn But everyone is different and reacts differently to depo. Some people even get pregnant while on depo or once they stop it. Usually it stays in your system from 12-18 months. I stopped depo in Nov 04 and started BCP's to regualte my periods. Then in Aug 05 I stopped BCP's to TTC. Because the depo was still in my system and I just got of BCP's I didnt have a period without the help of provera until Dec 05. I now am almost 21 weeks pregnant.
Avatar f tn I wonder what the difference between the two depo shots are and I wonder why my gyno recommended the other depo shot if the depo-subq provera 104 shot is specific for endo ?
Avatar f tn Knowing that Depo-provera ( the birth control shot) has provera in the name, can that also cause breast cancer?
Avatar n tn Well I got my period immediately after the first pack, went and saw the main doctor and was told that the resident was uninformed about the side effects of Depo, and they were foolish to tell me that I had PCOS. It ABSOLUTELY was an effect of Depo. I've been regular ever since! Like I said, you should be fine. If it takes you a little longer than you were hoping to get back to normal don't freak out.
Avatar n tn Well I didnt have AF and most likely it was due to me previously being on Depo Provera in 2004 and BC pills. So in December 2005 my Dr gave me provera. I took it for 7 days 10mg and I got AF 2 days later...usually you get AF anywhere 3 to 10 days after the last pill. Well in Jan 06 still no AF since the one in Dec. So I again took Provera, same dosage. Well in Feb still no AF and I took a HPT and got a BFP!
Avatar n tn No form of birthcontrol has worked for me to regulate my periods, and the side effects from these pills were awful. I am currently on Depo provera, and am having a hard time. I have been bleeding for several weeks, rather than not. It may be that our body due to the hormone irregularities is not affected as it should be by these drugs. So far I have had only one treatment work, but that was to stop my periods completly.
Avatar n tn I've read that if you do not bleed in response to Provera, you have low estrogen, and should be given estrogen along with the Provera. My doctor gave me something else instead, so that would make me believe my estrogen level was ok, if that's the case, shouldn't I have bled after Provera? I just don't want to waste my time taking medication I don't need.
Avatar n tn The medication is often given to women who do not ovulate on their own and Provera interrupts the estrogen-stimulation of the endometrium to cause menstrual bleeding. This bleeding can be very small in amount or it can be heavy. I assume the bleeding and the spotting on the 10th day of Provera are linked in time. An isolated episode of bleeding following intercourse can be from local irritation.
Avatar f tn The odds of it working over a period of time didn't seem likely, and I'm not taking any estrogen, my doctor and I have decided to stick with progestrin because we do know Endo feeds from estrogen, but in turn I'm getting side effects of hair loss because of the loss of estrogen. I am a cosmetologist and I do know that it's a double edged sword seeing as hair requires some level of estrogen to grow properly. You seem very very against the Lupron and I respect that opinion.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo-provera for 2 years for treatment of stage 4 endometriosis with secondary cpp and ibs. I recently visited my first endometriosis specialist in Vancouver. She told me to talk to my doctor about changing my birth control as i was taking 150mg every 2 months. the risks of bone loss are very high. she also suggested a birth control low in estrogen. a week after my visit with her i made an appt to see my gp.

She has been having vaginal bleeding for three weeks straight. Not heavy but enough to have to wear a tampon all the time. What is the reason for this and will it stop in time?
