Depo provera and cervical cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and cervical cancer

depo-provera

Avatar n tn Hi. If the vaginal bleeding is really heavy, I think you should consider consulting with another gynecologist sooner, rather than waiting until April 1. I'm just concerned that your condition might worsen while you're waiting for your doctor to return. Are you still taking depo-provera? If you're not, I suspect that an abrupt withdrawal of that hormone could have precipitated the vaginal bleeding. But this is just my theory.
Avatar f tn In order to get pregnant though, you need to not only be ovulating but you also need to be producing fertile cervical mucous and a thick uterine lining after you ovulate. The reason Depo-Provera is so long lasting is because of the way it works. The levels of DMPA (the synthetic hormone in Depo-Provera) gradually increase over a three week period, at which time they reach their peak levels. After three weeks the DMPA levels begin to decrease exponentially.
Avatar f tn I had a pap done and it showed abnormal white blood cells and I was told it was cervical cancer. A biopsy was never done. I lost my insurance and stopped seeing a doctor. I can't afford it. I went to a health department and had another pap done and it came back negative for abnormality. Now I'm on the birth control that the health dept gives out and still heavy all month. I can't find a doctor around here that will listen to me.
Avatar n tn has taken me off the Depo Shots and I was put on Birth Control Pills. The blood was very dark red and blood clots. I was given an altrsound was told nothing was wrong. Is this normal with the Depo Provera?
Avatar n tn I took a shot of Depo Provera on January 10th when my baby was 2 1/2 months old. I had spotting on and off for 3 months and hence didnt continue with Depo. However since last month, bleeding commences everytime i do exercise or after intercourse and goes on for 4 days like periods. I had a USS done and was found to have PCOD (which i have been having for 10 years now). Doctor advises it is hormonal changes that has caused this. Could this be cervical erosion? How serious is it?
Avatar m tn I received a shot for Kaiser to help prevent cervical cancer, I have gotten a pap smear and it came out normal. I also received a chlamydia test and it came out negative. I still don't know what is wrong.
Avatar f tn You ask a very important question because generally speaking, early cervical cancer does not have any signs and symptoms. This is why cervical cancer screening - pelvic exam and PAP- is so important. So regular visits to your OB-GYN (usually yearly but follow the recommendations of your OB/GYN) are the best way to prevent and diagnose cervical cancer.
286207 tn?1249282027 Can anyone that has ever been prescribed Provera please tell me what the period was like following the medicine. My LMP was 12/22/2007 and on February 4 i started Provera after not having a period for two months. Was your periods normal there after?
Avatar f tn I have a history of anxiety and depression. Is depo-provera a good choice or a bad choice for birth control? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Im 28 and have never been pregnant slightly overweight but not too concerred and getting it back down periods were always regular and pain free went on for birth control, my husband has 1 child already and decided to start are own family.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am not sure of what type of antibiotic might affect other contraceptives like the pill, but I am pretty sure that she will be fine on the shot. I myself had the depo-provera shot about 10 years ago. I only had one shot and I didn't have a period until a whole year later. It actually took me over another year after my period returned before, I finally became pregnant. The depo-provera shot is extremely effective.
902536 tn?1326914250 I was told in some women it could take up to 1 year for it to leave your system and another year to conceive in all honesty i HATE depo-provera and will never take it again for as long as i live
Avatar f tn Other forms of medroxyprogesterone, such as Depo-Provera, are used as a contraceptive injection and prescribed in the treatment of endometrial cancer. Some doctors prescribe Provera to treat endometriosis, menopausal symptoms, premenstrual tension, sexual aggressive behavior in men, and sleep apnea (temporary failure to breathe while sleeping). Read more: http://www.drugs.com/pdr/provera.html#ixzz0p34uv1bA Side effects cannot be anticipated.
Avatar f tn s no way to tell for sure, but more and more proof is coming out that autism is NOT linked to vaccines, and because depo provera is an active hormone shot and not a vaccine, I highly doubt that it is the cause. Are your other children girls by any chance? Very often a family that has an autistic child only has 1 (almost always a boy), and the rest of the children are "normal". They are thinking more and more that it's a genetic mutation.
Avatar m tn On 6th February it was 125 U/ml. I took Injection Depo provera on January according to my gynaecologist advise. Is it safe to take another Depo Provera injection Or is there any other management for this condition. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
384896 tn?1335294331 not sure about the breast feeding part but a lot of women on this site might agree with me to stay clear of depo-provera. I was on this bc for 2 and a half years and have been ttc for the same length of time with no joy. I was diagnosed with depression at 16 years old when i was on this, i asked the doc if that was the problem and was told no, when the depo eventually cleared from my system so did the depression my family say i was a new person.
Avatar f tn m outside the normal range of time after stopping Depo Provera to have gotten my periods back. Could Depo be causing these problems or does it sound like something else could be a problem?
Avatar n tn I was on depo provera and gained 40 pounds in 6 months... my dr. told me that the hormones that are in it mess with your body bad... If i were you i would get off it and try a differnt means of birth control... It has also been proven to increasse your chance of Osteoporosis! I also had the same problem as you... almost spotting for 3 months, when that happened (along with the weight gain) my dr. made me get off it...
505857 tn?1329681517 I have been trying to conceive since August 2007 but no luck as i think the Depo Provera has messed up my system. I thought i was ovulating between the 1st and 3rd of May could it have been any longer. All advice very much appreciated.
Avatar n tn One thing I noticed during my internet search was a number of results discussing Depo Provera and how it has caused the onset of early menopause in women even in their 20’s. Has anyone else heard about this, and if so, are there other resources I can review to get more information on this correlation? Thanks, I just have to know what is causing this!
432411 tn?1206472109 I took depo provera for about 6 years, starting in 2000. Just over three months after I stopped taking the shots I developed a nodule in my neck which was eventually diagnosed as thyroid cancer. I have absolutely no history of thyroid problems of any kind in family and I had had no problems before the depo.
Avatar f tn Recently, Me and My Boyfriend had un-protected sex.. and afterwards i started bleeding. we haven't had sex in a week, what could time be a sign of.. I am on Depo Provera-the birth control shot?
3113005 tn?1341773834 I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.
Avatar f tn The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar f tn I've been on depo provera for 15 years and my periods stopped right away. I'm 45 years old and just had a period that lasted 5 days. My question is whether or not depo provera is still working as my birth control choice? Is there a way to know if depo provera is no longer working and if I may get pregnant?
Avatar f tn Hello, I was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the long term use of Depo-Provera Contraceptive. I have been using it for a few years now, and have no plans of stopping using it anytime soon, as I am in college and will be for quite some time to come. I know that I am putting myself at risk for Osteoporosis by using it for a long time. But what I don't know is considering the fact that since being on Depo, I have had pretty much no menstrual cycle for a very long time.
