Depo provera and uterine cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and uterine cancer

Avatar f tn I will never go on Depo Provera again. My daughter was on Depo Provera at college, and discontinued the shot and has lost that weight and is thin again.'s free site has helped me keep up with my carb intake, and also tells me how many calories, how much fat etc. I use. It does this automatically when I put my food in for the day. Also Magic Bus has a forum where you can learn how to lose weight quick and even post on a challenge to keep you honest and responsible.
Avatar n tn blood (1 month ago) -Brownish-bloody discharge, normal bleeding after intercourse, painful intercourse, constant abdominal/vaginal cramping, stretch marks worsening, vaginal dryness, random clotting, bleeding has been constant since late November 2008. (current status) Some doctors mentioned, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cyst, or vaginismus as possible diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Other forms of medroxyprogesterone, such as Depo-Provera, are used as a contraceptive injection and prescribed in the treatment of endometrial cancer. Some doctors prescribe Provera to treat endometriosis, menopausal symptoms, premenstrual tension, sexual aggressive behavior in men, and sleep apnea (temporary failure to breathe while sleeping). Avatar n tn The problem is that you get the tissue elsewhere (in my case, on the ovary, bladder, and outside of the uterus), when you have your period that 'misplaced' tissue bleeds just like your uterine lining, and the body recognizes a problem. So it creates inflammation, which then creates scar tissue over the endo cells in an attempt to contain them.
Avatar f tn im 20 yrs old and i have been on the depo shot for a month and i have been on my period for 16 days when will it stop??? and is it normal ???
Avatar f tn Few other conditions where cramps and bleeding could be a symptom are ovarian growths, uterine growths and cervical cancer. You need complete medical evaluation and tests like ultrasound abdomen to detect the cause of your symptoms. I sincerely hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn thinks either adenomyosis or endo, but she told me if yaz doesnt help the next step might be the depo provera shot I dont know much about it but that may be a possibility for you, or possibly even lupron depo she suggested, even though I think you get many side effects from it. It's like a fake menopause! Well good luck lemme know how things works out!
Avatar n tn I've been taking 500mg metformin myself and I have not experienced any weight loss. I am actually taking it for diabetes treatment. But it has not helped with my weight loss.
Avatar f tn for the past 2 1/2 years I have been bleeding abnormally. It started when I first started the depo provera. I stayed on it for 9 months trying to work with my OB GYN to figure out why I was bleeding so much. She put me on estrogen pills because I'm a small person and didn't have the fat cells to store the estrogen. I bled more when I took the pills so I stopped taking them and just got off the shot.
298579 tn?1192250448 yes 13 Describe the pain you feel. a Horrible cramping and pain in the uterine area and the only way i can describe is labor pains, but alas I have never experienced those.
Avatar n tn The reason I say it should be treated is that I have actually seen a case of a 27-year-old who developed cancer of the uterine lining due to years of build up of tissue in the lining. Treatment could be birth control pills (cheap at Planned Parenthood) or the depot shot (also cheap at Planned Parenthood) or some people choose to take provera every three months to cause the lining to clean off. Other people take medicine to help them get pregnant. We also usually recommend--You guessed it!
Avatar n tn I'm not having any more children and I have tried everything to stop the pain and bleeding I was told depo provera is only a quick fix for dysfunctional uterine bleeding. I have heavy cycles as well and I pass a lot of large clots. I go through a lot of pads the first 2-3 days. I went through all the tests as well and they came back fine. My gyn found out through my laparoscopy. Let me know how things are going for you. I know going through too many cycles can lead to more serious situations.
Avatar n tn I took Geritol for about 3 weeks as well as my husband, then i thought i was pregnant and switched over to prenatal pills, and sure enough i was! Im currently 7 weeks pregnant. Good luck to you!! My pregnancy isnt going so well though(not geritol related) but hopefully yours will be better!!
Avatar f tn Remember doctors are humans too, and sometimes they forget that we are not doctors, and cannot afford some of these costly procedures, especially if they are not needed. I was on Lupron-Depo and Depo-Provera, Lupron is like a pseudo-menopause, some (not all cause we are all different) have night sweats, mood-changes etc. I did not notice such problems and Lupron worked short term for me. However longer term I was on Depo-Provera. It work fine.
Avatar n tn Briefly, they typically involve hormonal control of the menstrual cycle with the pill or one of its equivalents (the patch or nuvaring) or a progesterone only hormonal therapy such as using monthly provera, depo provera, or placing a Mirena IUD. In some obese women, weight loss can result in more regular menstrual cycles. Best of luck, Dr.
Avatar n tn Let me give you some more details. In 2001, I had my first baby. In 2002, I started using Depo-provera for birth control. When I started approaching age 30, I was getting nervous about not seeing my periods (due to the D/P), so I switched to the Ortho Evra Patch. I still wasn't seeing my period... I was on OE for 9 months. I quit using B/C altogether. My periods slowly started coming back to normal, so I thought, in January 2005. I had normal cycles for Jan, Feb...
Avatar n tn Hi, i have both endo and PCOS and ovarian cancer. In fact the PCOS has caused me more pain then the other two. complete agony. Feel free to drop me a line if you ever want to talk. best wishes.
Avatar f tn Wish one of us would get answers though, I hate not knowing and worrying about cancer. I have this same problem and I have talked to everyone and NO one has this. About 1 year ago when I finally had enough, I went to my family Dr. He put me on an antibiotic to see if maybe it was an infection in my lymph nodes. That did not help. When I went to the dentist he thought maybe it was an infected wisdom tooth, had it removed did not help.
Avatar f tn Now you still can have endometriosis, while having an endometrioma. I have had both, I still suffer from endomeriosis, and was previously on Depo-Provera, however I am in childbearing years and would like to think of that as a possibility, so I have discontinued the use of depo. I sure am paying for it though! There are GnHR therapies, birth control, surgery, and analgesics. It really depends on what you would like to do and your future plans.
Avatar n tn I started the depo provera almost two years ago but i was only on it for six months and my last shot was in september 2005. the doctors said it might be a year or so until my period become regular. I started getting them back last may 2006 and i had them right on time until september 2006, which was about 2 weeks late and then had my period on time in october. Then i didn't have it unitl febuary of this year and i haven't had it since. I have had blood test and many pregancy test done.
Avatar f tn I am a 38 year old woman with no kids who was diagnosed a year ago with uterine fibroids and a 6 cm cyst of unknown etiology. They ran TVUS, abdominal US and the cancer markers (CA - 125, CA 19-9) of which the one for ovarian cancer came elevated. Since then I started the battle of trying to find out what my best option was and finally after making sever medical consults and searching on line, I decided to get operated.
Avatar n tn Does this make sense to anyone please let me know...I have used a symptom checker on the internet and leads to miscarry or cervical cancer...Should I wait to see obgyn or go to hospital? some days worse then others. Unsure of what to do my family doctor blew me off told me to take advil for the pain. Tried advil once took 2 didn't work, tried heating pad hurt even more. Really scared.

Avatar f tn Does this Complex Atypical Endometrial Hyperplasia mean pre-cancerous IS REALLY cancer up further in the uterous? They are scaring me to death, and I feel that some of the new -to -be Dr's at the Clinic are really guessing. Maybe I am wrong, but I do know treatment is much different if you have insurance.
Avatar n tn 34 were treated with Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate), 9 with Colprone (megestrone acetate), and 1 with Megace (megestrol acetate). Of the 34 patients treated with Depo-Provera 13 showed regression of the tumor; 3 of the 9 treated with Colprone showed regression. In an additional 11 (25%) of cases growth of the tumors was arrested. 7 of these were later found to have abdominal metastases; however, 3 were free of symptoms for over 43 months.
Avatar n tn i have noticed this problem for at least a couple of years and initially my doctor thought it was because i was in depo provera and had abnormal bleeding all the time. i have been on the pill for over 7 months and my periods are back to normal except after this occurrence following orgasm. in april i had an abnormal pap smear that indicated i had HGSIL (high-grade intraepithelial lesions) of the cervix.
Avatar n tn If it came time for my next period, and it didn't show, and I was still getting negative hpt's then come in to the doc. The part that surprised me was that she said "even though those tests say they're accurate, sometimes you just don't have enough hormone in your system to show up". I said "yeah, but really, how often do you see that happen?" She said "Actually, I've seen it quite a bit".
422823 tn?1229740447 I am going the permanent birth control route. I have decided to use the essure method. Any one else getting permanent birth control?
Avatar f tn I did try several birth-control methods when I was in my 20s and 30s's such as Norplant, the pill and Depo Provera but I had many adverse reactions to them. Mainly and most bothersome..., my periods became reversed and I was on my period for three weeks and then off for one week. I haven't been given any info on the other options as to date.
