Avatar f tn Knowing that Depo-provera ( the birth control shot) has provera in the name, can that also cause breast cancer?
Avatar f tn I had had baby in Sept 04 and then went on Depo Provera a month later. A year later I started getting manic depressant and just didnt feel right. This was the second time that this happened to me on Depo Provera so I immediately went off. I let my system clean out for a month and then went onto Lo Ovoral pills and into the 8th day of the second pack I started to get these horrible migraines. I have never been sickly or have had headhaches in my life.
Avatar n tn Then I was diagnosed with osteopenia, hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and NOW depo-induced menopause. Are they all related to depo-provera use? I was taking it for 5 years. In what order do I treat this set of disorders? Why is my jaw the primary target? Will the bone loss stop, reverse? My endocrinologist said I should be taking hormone-replacement therapy, but that's what started me on this road to begin with! Help! I really don't want to have menopause twice. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
432411 tn?1206475709 I took depo provera for about 6 years, starting in 2000. Just over three months after I stopped taking the shots I developed a nodule in my neck which was eventually diagnosed as thyroid cancer. I have absolutely no history of thyroid problems of any kind in family and I had had no problems before the depo.
Avatar n tn I was on depo provera and gained 40 pounds in 6 months... my dr. told me that the hormones that are in it mess with your body bad... If i were you i would get off it and try a differnt means of birth control... It has also been proven to increasse your chance of Osteoporosis! I also had the same problem as you... almost spotting for 3 months, when that happened (along with the weight gain) my dr. made me get off it...
Avatar n tn You girls have to discontinue Depo Provera at once and I highly recommend never putting any hormones into your bodies ever again. I have experienced a living nightmare from Depo Prover for the past three years. After I got the Depo shot I went home and researched on the web about the drug. I cried for three hours in fear that that could happen to me. What happened was worse. Five days after the shot a menstrual cycle started that would not cease. It wasn't a normal cycle.
Avatar n tn you can always call your pharmacist and ask to make sure. My husband and I are TTC and I took the Depo shot twice and stopped 11/04 and then started BCP till 8/05 and havent had a period since except with provera. I think the Depo is still in my system and is screwing everything up. I hope the provera works for you and best of luck with the clomid.
Avatar f tn The reason the doctor insisted on the depo was because of maternal family history of estrogen-fed breast cancer. My question is whether the depo shot is inducing menopause hot flashes, or do I need to be concerned about other things, such as cancer. One sign of cancer is night sweats. I also have unexplained bruising sometimes.
Avatar n tn The Depo is not availiable in Italy, as it is only licenced for use as a pathological drug, for breast cancer and the likes. Does anybody know?
Avatar n tn I do have to say, I never gained weight from depo, if anything I lost weight. Now that I'm off it my breast have gotten bigger and MORE tendor. When I was on depo I was a 34 B still, but my breast were very squishy (spelling) now they are the same size but firm and perky.(all the time) I read in another post that it stays in our system because of fat cells. I am very active and I try to get to the gym 2 to 3 times a week and I play sports on the side.
Avatar f tn I will never go on Depo Provera again. My daughter was on Depo Provera at college, and discontinued the shot and has lost that weight and is thin again. Fitday.com's free site has helped me keep up with my carb intake, and also tells me how many calories, how much fat etc. I use. It does this automatically when I put my food in for the day. Also Magic Bus has a forum where you can learn how to lose weight quick and even post on a challenge to keep you honest and responsible.
Avatar n tn My GP initially suspected IBS as I have had this in the past but this has not been relieved by IBS treatments/diet changes etc.,. As I have a strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer (Maternal grandmother and mother, both deceased) I requested a trans vaginal scan and was also given an external pelvic scan. The pelvic scan showed no issues but the trans vaginal revealed a right side ovarian cyst, which my GP felt was most likely functional.
Avatar f tn i was on the pill, but sometimes i forgot to take it and i don't take it at the same time always. i was reading up on depo provera...i've heard some great things & then i have heard some complete horror stories! can anyone on this pill tell me about their experiences please? i have read you don't get your period anymore, tons of weight gain, hair loss, increase your risk of getting breast cancer...i mean is all of this true.
Avatar f tn I've been using Depo-provera for 1 year and 4 months, and have been aware of not staying on it for longer than 2 years due to the risk of bone loss that comes with longterm use. I've looked into Implanon but fear that because it hasn't been out for too long, the side affects have yet to be truely determined and bone loss may also be found with the use of Implanon.
Avatar f tn Other forms of medroxyprogesterone, such as Depo-Provera, are used as a contraceptive injection and prescribed in the treatment of endometrial cancer. Some doctors prescribe Provera to treat endometriosis, menopausal symptoms, premenstrual tension, sexual aggressive behavior in men, and sleep apnea (temporary failure to breathe while sleeping). Avatar n tn She gave me a breast exam and found multiple lumps, that I did not find, and she also felt the lumps under my arm. She then sent me for a ultrasound, which I had the next day and they found nothing. Everything was clear. Five days later I got my first period in three years ( I had been on the Depo Provera shot and recently discontinued it. I failed to get the scheduled shot in August). When I went back to the doctor she felt new lumps and could not find some of the old ones.
Avatar f tn Hi! I'm 26yrs old & have a 6yr old son. I'm currently not on any type of birth control & have not been in a year. I was on the depo-provera shot & was not having a period; however, I have still not had a menstrual cycle & I haven't had a shot in almost 1yr! The other day I noticed that my breasts were very tender & sore to the touch! They started out extremely sore & anything touching them hurt so bad that it almost brought tears to my eyes.
Avatar n tn Jaundice Blood clots Severe allergic reaction Infertility Severe depression Heavy or prolonged vaginal bleeding Additionally, there is conflicting evidence to suggest that use of depo-provera may increase your risk of breast and cervical cancer, although no definite conclusions have yet been drawn.
Avatar n tn On the flip side, there is concern that if I do not have the procedure done, I am always going to have problems when I have annual breast cancer screenings, etc. and that given these lumps, cancer would be virtually undetectable at an early stage. It is notable that I do not have a family history of breast cancer. Is there any place where I can find out about women with this disease who have opted to undergo a mastectomy and subsequent reconstruction?
Avatar n tn I have recently been diagnosed with a hemorrhagic cyst of the right ovary. . I was doubled over in pain and sent in for an ultrasound. I have been placed on the Evra Patch and told to await another ultrasound. Problem is now that I am in more pain than ever but on the left. I am aching into the left leg and my doctor is now considering sending me to a GYN.This could take months.
Avatar f tn im 20 yrs old and i have been on the depo shot for a month and i have been on my period for 16 days when will it stop??? and is it normal ???
Avatar f tn No it is not breast cancer as I went to the OBGYN and they said with breast cancer you normally do not have any pain. Costochondritis causes pain and tenderness in the locations where your ribs attach to your breastbone (costosternal joints). Often the pain is sharp, though it can also feel like a dull, gnawing pain. Pain associated with costochondritis occurs most often on the left side of your breastbone, though it can occur on either side of your chest.
Avatar n tn I am forty seven years old, was diagnosised with breast cancer two and half years ago. I was estrogen receptor positive, early stage, no lymph node involvement, stage 0- but had a large mass and had to have a masectomy. I take tamoxifin, and am still having pretty regular periods. My question is- Do I need to take birth control precautions while on tamoxifin?
Avatar f tn I told her that I wanted something long-term, and something to get rid of period all together because it was very irregular, heavy and uncomfortable. Both breast and cervical cancer runs in my family, and I was considering having my tubes tied as a preventative, and a solution to my birthcontrol issues. Is there any other birth controls that are available that would work better for me?
1344197 tn?1392822771 It is produced primarily in the ovaries, body fat, and breast. E2, Estradiol; Serves as the primarily active estrogen BEFORE menopause and is LOST at menopause when follicles are gone. It is produced primarily in the ovaries with some made from testosterone in the brain, breast, and muscle. E3, Estriol; A weak estrogen made by the placenta during pregnancy. There is only one progestin, Progesterone, which is converted to other progestins.
Avatar f tn I noticed after getting out of the shower a couple days ago my nipples were a dark purple color, but by this time the pain had mostly gone away. I'm 17, and on Depo Provera, I'm not sure if the shot has anything to do with this, but if it does it would be such a relief too know! Thanks.
902536 tn?1326917850 I was told in some women it could take up to 1 year for it to leave your system and another year to conceive in all honesty i HATE depo-provera and will never take it again for as long as i live
