Delayed period reasons

Common Questions and Answers about Delayed period reasons

period

Avatar n tn If so, there could be many reasons for that. Sometimes ovulation is delayed and when that happens, your period will be delayed too. It could be because of stress, too much exercise...or you could have been pregnant and had an early miscarriage (but if it was a miscarriage, I think you would have known). There are a number of other reasons too why ovulation is delayed sometimes. Are your cycles normally regular?
Avatar n tn You can't be pregnant unless your bf basically ejaculated directly in your vagina or on your vulva. Stress can delay ovulation, which can delay your periods. And depending on how old you are, the first couple years of your period can be erratic. But if you got your period more than a couple of years ago and you just went an entire year without it, you should talk with your doctor. You're probably not ovulating regularly, and you should be checked out to determine why.
Avatar n tn Hello, There are several reasons why a woman have delayed menstruation and this could be due to unhealthy diet, stress (emotional or physical), sudden weight gain or loss, caffeine, alcohol, and smoking. Gynecological conditions like polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and uterine cysts or polyps, can also bring about alteration in menstrual cycle. However, pregnancy is still the most common cause of delayed or missed period.
Avatar n tn Delayed or missed period is known as amenorrhea. Apart from pregnancy, there are many other reasons for a delayed period. The other causes are hormonal imbalance like in PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome), stress, obesity, malnutrition, anemia, hypothyroidism, illness, etc. To be absolutely clear about the status of your pregnancy, I suggest you to test for pregnancy by a highly sensitive pregnancy test 10 days post ovulation with a sensitive ( 20 - 25 mIU ) pregnancy test.
Avatar n tn This happens to lots of women though--- they have an extremely long cycle out of the blue. Reasons for a late period include illness, weight gain or loss, stress, changes in routines, the holidays, new exercise regimes, etc. If you have trouble with your thyroid, this is a common cause of long cycles. So, I'd see if you get your period soon and if not, then go ahead and see your doctor. I had periods every three to four months for about a year and a half due to a slow thyroid.
Avatar n tn I'm delayed on my period by 18 days, basically half a month and I've done quite a few research and it could be that I had excercised repeatedly for three days and that kind of delays me or it could also be too much coffee. I'm 16 and i haven't had intercourse over the past year. They say stress can cause you to miss your period and well lately at school I've just been all types of moods.
Avatar f tn The tests should be positive if I was pregnant right as the HCG hormone would be clearly present after so many weeks. Why is my period delayed? I do not want to conceive this child. Thanks.
Avatar f tn If it is still negative I would go see your doctor. There could be other reasons that your period is delayed . You definitely need to get on some type of birth control and ALWAYS use condoms as a back up to protect yourself from future accidents and STDs. Good luck hun and let me know what happens.
Avatar m tn Hello, Apart from pregnancy, there are many other reasons for a delayed period. You can do a home pregnancy test by using a pregnancy kit easily available at chemists. Also, it is suggested that you see a gynecologist who will examine you.

956554 tn?1246588730 Contact your local Department of Human Services, and they can direct you to the right place. It all depends on how delayed her period is. Definately a missed period is the hugest red flag in pregnancy, but there are other things that can delay menstruation, such as stress, chemical imbalances, ovarian cysts, overweight, underweight and many other things. My suggestion to you would be first and foremost get her tested asap.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy, stress, dietary changes, a lot of exercise, illness, and hormonal issues can all cause a delayed or missed period. Reasons for a delayed period are certainly not limited to these, though. To determine the exact cause if pregnancy is not a possibility and you are still waiting for this missed period, you may consider going to the doctor to get some tests done.
Avatar n tn There are many different reasons a period could be delayed but it does happen with a lot of women every now and then. It is usually nothing to worry about but if it keeps on happening you may need to get checked over by the doctor to be on the safe side. If you suspect pregnancy then take a test or go and see your doctor.

Avatar n tn ) If a 6 week test is supposedly 99% accurate, why would so many sources, for other than legal reasons, extend the window period from 3 months up to a year and even beyond? If testing isn't so much different than it was in the 90s and these tests are so sensitive, why can I search the internet and find cases in medical papers in which a person was found to seroconvert beyond 3 months?
Avatar f tn Relax. You clearly do not have HIV. Your tests prove this repeatedly. The concept of "delayed seroconversion" is an urban myth with no meaningful data to substantiate it. Pregnancy does not change this. You do not have HIV- period. Your stress is your problem. you are letting this exposure eat you alive. What you need is not testing or medications for an infection you do not have but help working through this.
Avatar f tn Follow up EKG showed right bundle branch block and delayed conduction (106 QT) that was since diagnosed as borderline EKG. Discomfort continued, though stress echo was normal. Then, march 2014 I had another ER visit. Same conditions recorded with tests and bloodwork, and was after heavy night of drinking again (rarity nowadays). Diagnosed dehydration and anxiety.
Avatar f tn There are other reasons that your period may be delayed, so you need to rule out pregnancy for starters. I'm not sure how long you have been with your partner, so try to eliminate reasons why your period hasn't arrived.
Avatar f tn Sometimes your period can get delayed for different reasons: stress, medication, illness, thyroid problems. If for some reason you didn't ovulate, you could miss your period altogether for a month. Alternatively, you could have gotten a false negative on the hpt. If you period doesn't show up in another week and a hpt is still negative, you could schedule a blood test at your doctor's office to clear things up. Good luck!
