He met with me and was pretty thorough and reduced my medications from 150 of Levothyoxine to 25 mg. He also suggested I increaes my Cymbalta. I called my doctor today and the nurse told me the reason for the 150 mg was that my family doctor wanted to help me with extra weight loss and thought this might do the trick. I asked about Cymbalta as I am taking 60 mg and he increased it to 120 mg, sort of nervous about this as it is designed at high doses for people with pain. That isn't me.
Early last year I stopped Cymbalta and had no problems being on it or getting off of it. Then last Summer I began taking Victoza for my Diabetes, I take 1.2 mg injection every other day. It's a great medicine and has also helped me lose weight.
Then in Mid-December I was getting Depressed again and thought I might try going back on Cymbalta. I took one 60mg capsule in the early afternoon. I was fine until about 8 hours later.
Only side-effect I had when I tried Cymbalta 30mg was nausea. It started the day I started Cymbalta and lasted for about 1 week. Therapeutic lag was about 3 weeks, after being on 30mg for 2 weeks. Took it 5 months, went off cold turkey and brain zaps lasted 1 month or so.
One drug does not fit all, we can all reach differently to various drugs.
I don't know what you will experience exactly but just from my experience on Cymbalta which I am currently on 30 mg didn't do crap for me and I didn't feel that i was that depressed but more anxious than anything. THen I did figure out I was more depressed than I thought but still depressed so they upped the dosage to 60 mg. 60mg is the standard dosage for Cymbalta. I had asked to be put on 30mg onlyh because I didn't want any side effects (especially sexual side effects)...
My Dr. just switched me from Effexor XR to Cymbalta. I took my first dose of Cymbalta in the evening, because the script said it caused drowsiness. I was wide awake all night and went to work the following day. Has anyone had a problem with this med at night? Now I'm not taking anything. I'm a mess. Probably going through withdrawals. Please help. I can't reach my doctor.
So I slowly weaned off the lexapro and switched to cymbalta. For a week i took 5 mg of lexapro and a 30mg cymbalta. Now I am at a therapeutic dosage of 60mg cymbalta. And I also take clonozapem up to 3 times a day if I have panic attacks.
Lexapro gave me gastroinstestinal side effects. While as Cymbalta now seems to give me sleep troubles/insomnia. However, sometimes the medication outweighs the side effects.
I have felt like this probably for the last 5 years and the only thing that worked well was Cymbalta. Initially when I took it, it worked great, but then it seemed to stop. I have tried other antidepressants but nothing has worked as well. That is when I really began looking into my thyroid as the culprit. Anyway, here is my question.....should I begin Cymbalta again (doc says yes) even though I am just beginning a thyroid med.

If memory serves me correct 90Mgs a day of Cymbalta is the maximum effective dosage. This basicaly means that in clinical trials any more than 90Mgs of Cymbalta was not shown to produce any further impact on the symptoms of the subjects depression.
In my case I found Cymbalta to be the least effective of the SNRI group of SNRI drugs.
Has anyone taken Cymbalta for depression? If so, how long...what were the side effects if any? How long have you been taking it....are you happy with it?
Jan 7, 2014 my psychiatrist switched me from 60mg Cymbalta to 100mg Zoloft. The switch was made bc I felt after 5 yrs, the Cymbalta might be pooping out. The first week I took 30mg Cymbalta with 50mg Zoloft. After that week, I stopped Cymbalta and went to 100mg Zoloft. It's now a little over 4 weeks since the switch and I'm having panic attacks like I haven't had in years & also that disassociation feeling that goes along w/anxiety & depression.
The average dose for Cymbalta is 60mg per day, and although some doctors do prescribe it 120mg per day...there is no evidence to prove that it helps any more than the 60 mg per day. The maximim dose for Prozac is 80mg per day so you're still below the highest dosage on that one. I doubt your doctor will increase the Cymbalta anymore, and if he tries to...find another doctor! Cymbalta has no useful indication for anxiety/panic, which is precisely why it isn't approved for this use. The drug is reserved for the treatment of depressive affects only.
Under the supervision of a medical doctor, reduce the dosage to 30 mg. Take 30 mg for one week. The second week, take 15 mg every other day, then stop. You've not been on it long, and the idea is to get off of it as quickly as possible - before it alters your chemistry significantly.
Has anyone tried or currently use Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia. My primary care Dr. wants me to try it for my pain. I have glaucoma, it's under controlled but im still afraid to take it because of the side affects. Im in so much pain most of the time. I also have non hodgkns lymphoma and sarcoidosis and both are in remission , and I pray I can get some kind of relief. I really would like to hear some input on this.
s thyroid med dosage. It has to be based on relief of hypo symptoms, guided by levels of Free T4 and Free T3.In addition it is important that Vitamin D is at least 50 ng/ml, B12 in the upper part of its range, and ferritin should be at least 100. And of course you mentioned hormone levels.
