Avatar f tn I also got coughing so hard I coughed up/vommited mucous 3 times and it was very thick. When I start coughing it's hard to stop and I feel like i can't breath. This morning I thought it might have gone away and I feel a little better but I still can't take a full deep breath without coughing, I've looked up symptoms and think it might possibly be bronchitis?
Avatar n tn Hi there is a young man in my team who suffers with asthma but he does not smoke, he does however sit next to another young man that does smoke and has complained about the smell when he returns from his breaks, can you please confirm if there is any medical evidence that shows that the smell of smoke lingering on the smokers clothes will effect the young man with asthma?
Avatar n tn These same substances can also lead to chronic sinusitis. Some people can smoke for years and never develop symptoms or emphysema. You are not one of those people. What you have experienced is a warning that your lungs and bronchial tubes are very sensitive to the toxins in the smoke from both classical cigarettes and cannabis. And, being sensitive, you will develop chronic lung disease with progressive destruction of your lungs, most likely at an early age.
Avatar m tn I cough non stop throughout the day, even when i do not smoke. Im not sure if i have an infection or what and seeking advice.. I know your advice will be to stop smoking, but even when i do for a while the coughing never ceases. Ive also been having pain in my left lung when i cough. On rare occasions blood will be in the phlem.
Avatar m tn Well, if you are coughing up blood, a responsible adult in your life should be told so you can be seen by a doctor. I doubt I have to state the obvious that inhalation of smoke from weed isn't good for you. but coughing up blood is something that requires medical care so you need to talk to your parents about seeing a doctor.

Avatar m tn Try to avoid the nasal irritants such as cigarette smoke, perfume, aerosol sprays, smoke, smog and car exhaust. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Are you a smoker? History of allergies? None of your situation sounds NORMAL. I am confused about the nurse you mentioned. Is this a nurse that you talked with at a doctor's visit or someone you know? You should be seeing a physician at this point if you have not already like ASAP.
Avatar m tn sound like your lungs are clearing and you may have bronco or asthma or something see your doctor some times when you stop smokeing this happen.
Avatar n tn You might be exposed to smoke without being aware of it. Smoke can enter a room from under a door or a crack in the window frame or through a central ventilation heating and cooling system. This could be a cause of your cough. On the other hand, given your previous experience with odd smells, this could be another of those. The cough with "bad chest pain" could be causing one or more of the nerves coming off your spine, being compressed by the high pressures generated with a cough.

Avatar m tn Hello whitefox1, Just finished reading your post. I don't know what you are experiencing but I'm glad to hear that you will be going to the doctor. You mention a cough that you can't stop and leaves you short of breath. Have you ever been tested to see if you have asthma ? Just a thought. Before I was diagnosed with asthma, I experienced coughing bouts that seemed like they wouldn't stop.
Avatar m tn The stuff you are coughing up is the result of smoking, and probably the brand you smoke makes it worse. Cigarettes nowadays are not just tobacco, but are loaded with additives including saltpeter to make it burn faster. When I was smoking I bought only Nat Sherman cigarettes. No additives. No burners. I am not recommending that you continue to smoke, but you are making it worse because of what you are smoking.
Avatar f tn if you take robitussin or mucinex my doctor said its better to take the "DM" kind, and take only about half of the recommended dose
Avatar f tn it sounds like tar build up. I get that in my lungs too. I know its gross, but you're better off coughing it up than keeping it in there.
Avatar n tn I have turbinates hypertrophy that causes post-nasal drip but when I lie down I stop coughing completely and if the cough were caused by post-nasal drip it would get worse lying down. I was wondering if you could help me understanding what is causing this cough and how to get rid of it, thank you.
Avatar n tn The cough may be due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but you should not assume that. If you smoke cigarettes or marijuana, that could be the cause. But, you should check out the cough with your doctor on this and, at least, have a chest x-ray. Most chronic coughs can at least be controlled, if not totally eliminated. Age 43 is indeed quite young to have COPD. You are young enough to be tested for the inherited form of COPD/emphysema, called alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.
Avatar f tn When I normally smoke a lot during the evening when I wake up I remove clear phlegm with a bit black or something. The reality is, that whatever rubish it is that is coming out of our lungs means that our lungs are not very clean and we should take this seriously. I understand and also suffer from smoking addiction but we need to use this as motivation to make us quit before its too late. On the other hand, you could only benefit if you ask your doctor about it.
