Avatar n tn She is 64 but she also has osteoporosis and arthritis in her lower back. The back doctor just prescribed Celebrex, is this the safest drug for her? Also what should people with Hep C do to better care for their liver eventhough so far she seems to have a healthy liver. For the osteoporosis she is on Fosamax. She has been on it for several years. I am just afraid that too many potent drugs can be harmful for her liver.
Avatar m tn I have seen a top gastroantonologist (spelling) who killed the myth about Tylenol and liver function. His words were " Tylenol is the better OTC for people with liver problems. Just DO NOT take more that 2000 mg a day." For normal people the max per day is 4000 mg. Just thought I'd put that out there.
Avatar f tn d probably pursue the liver function angle if I were you. Any NSAID can disrupt liver function. Before my hypo diagnosis, I was on Celebrex (another NSAID) for chronic back pain, and was taken off of it after a liver function test. You could possibly also have a pituitary or hypothalamus issue, but given the ibuprofen and the ease of testing liver function, I'd probably explore that first.
Avatar f tn Does anyone take celebrex?I started Prozak last week and they want me to take celebrex too. They say my liver can take it, (stage 2 fibrosis). But I am afraid of the NSAIDs in celebrex, any one else taking it? Oh, I am on Methadone too. I am having my first liver biopsy in the morning, so I will find out more about my liver. I am scared to death about it coz I have had so many problems lately.
Avatar f tn Celebrex is a NSAID... for some it may be ok and others not..largely depends on the condition of your liver and other health factors that the prescribing doctor should be aware of ... here is a past discussion on pain meds. Avatar n tn watch out for rotaion if you notice your figer nail pointing to the side of your hand you might want it looked at by a surgion it is not a bad deformity meaning does not increase pain or decrease function but look werid and can make your fist look weried and it will get trapped under your ring finger when making a fist so look out for that.
Avatar m tn Your liver function has not been altered by your liver disease yet. If you become stage 4 (cirrhosis) then you will have to modify what drugs you can take because the liver is no longer able to process drugs in a normal manner. Tramadol is an synthetic opiate and should not be taken for "mild" pain. If you are close to or stage 4, Tylenol is the drug of choice for cirrhotics as long as you limit dosing to 2 grams per day and and don't mix it with alcohol.
Avatar f tn I am a 32 year old female and over the past 12 years have been dealing with severe upper right quadrant abdominal pain. No could figure out why. I have been given possible diagnoses of: IBS, Gilbert's Syndrome, Gastroparesis and recently early phase dumping syndrome. I have recently had an MRCP which showed that my liver is enlarged to 8.7 cm (5.'9", ~175 lbs).
1032715 tn?1315984234 Keep drinking and using and it will eventually give up. I had high readings and was hospitalised for liver damage but it eventually recovered after I stopped drinking. Worrying about it is a futile act, stick to your recovery plan, don’t drink or use and when the time comes have the necessary tests then deal with things as your doctor recommends.
Avatar f tn "Can you get Cirrhosis of the liver with painkiller and sleeping tablet addiction?? " Painkillers and sleeping tablets will not cause Cirrhosis of the liver. Other medications like certain anti-fungals can. Certain medications can cause further harm if you already have some form of liver disease.

Avatar f tn I had an aunt who died from liver cancer and her liver function tests were normal until the end stages. However, it is common to have cysts in the liver and fatty areas that aren't a problem. When I was dx they found a hemangioma in my liver and another cyst and there were two cysts in my kidneys. Before my surgery, I thought this must indicate cancer had spread there only to find out that most of us do have some sort of cyst congenitally or as we age. My dr.
Avatar m tn They say that Milk Thissel helps clean the liver and their are other natural liver cleansers, but I would check with your doctor before using these. Glad your numbers are returning to normal and this has been a wake up call.

678069 tn?1254422777 Well, not only did my latest bloodwork show all my blood counts are good, but my liver function is now NORMAL!! Are you kidding me?? Its been a long time since that was the case. I couldnt believe it when my Dr said it. I could definitely get used to hearing that! Add to all that the fact that my side effects are minimal. The only thing I deal with on a regular basis is mild fevers. But Advil usually takes care of it.

Avatar f tn I agree with Geminigirl that Celebrex might be a good option for you as it is specifically formulated to help with osteoarthritis pain. Celebrex is COX-2 inhibitor type NSAID and it is linked to heart attack and stroke. If you have high blood pressure, this medicine may not be the right fit even if it is controlled by blood pressure medications. And over time, NSAIDs increase blood pressure so that is a long term side effect that should be considered.

Avatar m tn The aspirin can cause prolonged internal bleeding, cause fluid build up of ascites and edema, rapid deterioration of kidney function and progression of the liver disease. All complications a person with cirrhosis wants to avoid. Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) and other NSAIDs are drugs that are widely used for their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. They also have the potential to cause drug-induced liver disease.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone. So a little backstory first. I was diagnosed with Graves disease back in 2013-2014. I was put on the methimazole + beta blocker treatment. I went into remission around 2016, when all my labs were normal. So I stopped the meds. Then, March of 2018, Graves was back with a vengeance. All the telltale signs were back, the excessive heat and heart palpitations, I went back to the doctor and back on drug treatment. This time, however, the meds doesn't work whatsoever.
Avatar n tn Once your inflammation dissipates and you stop taking Celebrex everything should return to normal, that is, if you didn't have high morning glucose levels previously. IMHO.
