Avatar n tn She is 64 but she also has osteoporosis and arthritis in her lower back. The back doctor just prescribed Celebrex, is this the safest drug for her? Also what should people with Hep C do to better care for their liver eventhough so far she seems to have a healthy liver. For the osteoporosis she is on Fosamax. She has been on it for several years. I am just afraid that too many potent drugs can be harmful for her liver.
924711 tn?1290266557 Your individual sensitivity to a toxin is an unknown (and hep c makes your liver work less well so damage is greater). Research beyong the manufacturer's label. You will rarely find liver damage from the drug listed even in the rare side effects section of the label. You will find references to liver damage by a drug in professional papers but you'll need to dig. Good luck on your search.
Avatar f tn I wasn't telling you what NYD meant; I was trying to help those who came after, trying to help you. It is time-consuming to look up abbreviations, so if I take the time to look one up, I'm going to provide the answer for the next person reading your question. I don't know why people seeking help don't type their terms out. I know a lot of abbreviations, but there are way too many.
Avatar f tn Does anyone take celebrex?I started Prozak last week and they want me to take celebrex too. They say my liver can take it, (stage 2 fibrosis). But I am afraid of the NSAIDs in celebrex, any one else taking it? Oh, I am on Methadone too. I am having my first liver biopsy in the morning, so I will find out more about my liver. I am scared to death about it coz I have had so many problems lately.
Avatar f tn If you are aware of any underlying nerve damage in your knees and feet, then this could help with that type of pain. I agree with Geminigirl that Celebrex might be a good option for you as it is specifically formulated to help with osteoarthritis pain. Celebrex is COX-2 inhibitor type NSAID and it is linked to heart attack and stroke. If you have high blood pressure, this medicine may not be the right fit even if it is controlled by blood pressure medications.
Avatar f tn t really that affective for me but my insurance made me try practically every NSAID on the market before they would approve Celebrex. They denied Celebrex and even recommended a PPI (ulcer med) to take with the NSAID's because they didn't want to pay for Celebrex. After they denied me 4 or 5 times, they finally approved it. So now I take 400mg of Celebrex a day and it's a lot more effective than any other NSAID i've been on.
Avatar f tn Celebrex is a NSAID... for some it may be ok and others not..largely depends on the condition of your liver and other health factors that the prescribing doctor should be aware of ... here is a past discussion on pain meds. Avatar f tn There are three different COX-2 inhibitors currently available to the public– Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra. COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. It is recommended that people with liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs.
Avatar m tn Aspirin may prevent cancers in other but for persons with HCV and liver disease "the cure" will probably be worse then "the disease". Most people with a high risk of HCC are cirrhotic patients. The aspirin can cause prolonged internal bleeding, cause fluid build up of ascites and edema, rapid deterioration of kidney function and progression of the liver disease. All complications a person with cirrhosis wants to avoid.
Avatar f tn The pain comes from glial cell stimulation, which does not respond to an opiate. Percocet is unacceptable because of the liver damage. Accupuncture and a TENS device often work. Do a search on "scientific American" magazine. They had some excellent articles on management of chronic pain.

Avatar m tn Hopefully one of the more knowledgable members will come by, to answer this question, but until then, I definitely wouldn't give here Motrin, or Tylenol. Both those meds gave me severe cramps when I took them this year, and I only have fibrosis. Is there an Advice Nurse you can consult, via the phone, at your local E.R.?
Avatar m tn I was told today by my awesome insurance company that they will not cover Celebrex. I have been on meloxicam for many years. I'm on day 25 norco free and working with my pain management doctor on non narcotic relief. I thought this maybe a good choice but the insurance company disagreed. Any opinions on arthritis relief options. I have liver issues and I'm tested every 6 months. I also have stenosis, 2 bulging discs and one that has been detached.
Avatar f tn No, it would be unheard of for Celebrex to damage your heart valve. Celebrex and similar drugs do cause high blood pressure in many individuals, though. You might have gone forever and not known about the heart valve if you had not gotten high blood pressure from the Celebrex. Follow whatever advice the cardiologist gave you, and don't worry.
1415174 tn?1453243103 re active and it causes the pain to get worse so you have to rest and it gets better. I would recommend taking the tylenol and celebrex for a few days and resting up. See if that makes it feel better longer. You should still see the doctor, though. That's just a sugestion on what to do in the mean time before you can get into the doctor. I really hope that you're able to get into the doctor soon and find out what's going on so that you can get the relief you need.
Avatar f tn The response is correct....you are not supposed to drink alcoholic beverages while taking methotrexate...I was on the same dose as you and my rheumy said no alcohol...some rheumies will allow a certain number of drinks per year...like 1 drink on a special occasion...recommend you contact your rheumy if not already done, as s/he should have provided this direction to you...it's to avoid liver damage...I've since been put on other RA meds, but still can't drink...
1415174 tn?1453243103 I was on other meds, Celebrex, Skelaxin and am off of all except Neurontin. I have tapered the Neurontin to 500mg/day. This question is related to side effects that may be due to Neurontin or maybe my migraines. When I was on a higher dose of Neurontin I was getting almost daily visual disturbances in both eyes that looked like what my migraine auras look like but those are in one eye and are followed by a headache.
Avatar f tn People can have elavated readings but have little or no damage and you can have normal readings but have damage.
Avatar f tn m always combining it with more tylenol, or excedrin, than what is recommended. I know it has to affect my liver, and I don't want to cause liver damage. Is it possible for this to describe Fibromyalgia or something similar, even with how young I am? I have an appt. with my doctor this friday, and don't know how to approach her......
Avatar n tn Once your inflammation dissipates and you stop taking Celebrex everything should return to normal, that is, if you didn't have high morning glucose levels previously. IMHO.
Avatar f tn I have had normal liver enzyme test and a normal ultrasound and ct scan, but I still have extreme bloating. This has been going on for months now. I worry because I binge drank on a nightly basis for about an 8 year span, 3-5(sometimes more) glasses of wine and such. Should I be worried that I have liver damage that is just not showing up? I have changed my diet significantly ( no dairy or gluten) but I am still very bloated. I am sick with worry that I have caused permanent damage.
Avatar f tn The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..
