Avatar n tn She is 64 but she also has osteoporosis and arthritis in her lower back. The back doctor just prescribed Celebrex, is this the safest drug for her? Also what should people with Hep C do to better care for their liver eventhough so far she seems to have a healthy liver. For the osteoporosis she is on Fosamax. She has been on it for several years. I am just afraid that too many potent drugs can be harmful for her liver.
Avatar f tn Does anyone take celebrex?I started Prozak last week and they want me to take celebrex too. They say my liver can take it, (stage 2 fibrosis). But I am afraid of the NSAIDs in celebrex, any one else taking it? Oh, I am on Methadone too. I am having my first liver biopsy in the morning, so I will find out more about my liver. I am scared to death about it coz I have had so many problems lately.
Avatar f tn Celebrex is a NSAID... for some it may be ok and others not..largely depends on the condition of your liver and other health factors that the prescribing doctor should be aware of ... here is a past discussion on pain meds. Avatar m tn I was told today by my awesome insurance company that they will not cover Celebrex. I have been on meloxicam for many years. I'm on day 25 norco free and working with my pain management doctor on non narcotic relief. I thought this maybe a good choice but the insurance company disagreed. Any opinions on arthritis relief options. I have liver issues and I'm tested every 6 months. I also have stenosis, 2 bulging discs and one that has been detached.
Avatar f tn I am a 32 year old female and over the past 12 years have been dealing with severe upper right quadrant abdominal pain. No could figure out why. I have been given possible diagnoses of: IBS, Gilbert's Syndrome, Gastroparesis and recently early phase dumping syndrome. I have recently had an MRCP which showed that my liver is enlarged to 8.7 cm (5.'9", ~175 lbs).
Avatar f tn I agree with Geminigirl that Celebrex might be a good option for you as it is specifically formulated to help with osteoarthritis pain. Celebrex is COX-2 inhibitor type NSAID and it is linked to heart attack and stroke. If you have high blood pressure, this medicine may not be the right fit even if it is controlled by blood pressure medications. And over time, NSAIDs increase blood pressure so that is a long term side effect that should be considered.
6708370 tn?1471490210 What pain meds you take should be fully evalutaed by your physician that is cognisant of any liver damage (fibrosis) you may have as well as any other health conditions. In general the pain med "celebrex " is a NSAID that can have containdications if liver damage is severe(as there may be bleeding issues) You may find this article of some interest Will http://hepatitiscnewdrugs.blogspot.com/ Liver damage. Avatar n tn Once your inflammation dissipates and you stop taking Celebrex everything should return to normal, that is, if you didn't have high morning glucose levels previously. IMHO.
Avatar m tn I don't think it should be an issue, I took Celebrex and Morphine for an extended time with no issue. Ask your doctor about any concerns though.
Avatar n tn My two daughters take Celebrex as a person would take Advil here or there and do fine with it .. they both cannot take ibuprofen. My son cannot take it since birth as he gets bad reflux from in .. They make custom made ibuprofen suppositories if you really need a NSAID but cannot do it by mouth and they are wonderful .. you need a compounding pharmacy but my co pay was only $8.00!
Avatar m tn Has anyone used Celebrex for their Crohn's? I have severe joint point pain and I have been told that Celebrex is a huge help for this. I am wondering about side effects and medicine interactions.
Avatar f tn Hey Hopey. I was just prescribed Celebrex too!! I'm very anxious to see how well it helps b/c i have constant back pain and have tried several meds that haven't given ANY relief. I started the Celebrex today, 600 mgs. And will take 400 mgs/day after today. The dr DID say it can take a few days to start feeling relief from it.
Avatar m tn I have been on methotrexate and celebrex for at least 15 years, probably long. I am currently in a tremendous amount of pain in my fingers, elbows, shoulders, left knee and left hip. Volteran gel has not helped at all and neither has Aleve. Can I take tramadol with these two drugs? I have recently switched my insurance and am waiting to get into a new rheumatologist.
924711 tn?1290266557 A drug challenge is where you take a drug, do bloodwork for liver enzymes and see if ALT and AST went up with the addition of the drug. It can take several weeks for the damage to show and several weeks for the enzymes to drop back down. It's a pretty clear statement about the drug and your liver.
Avatar f tn t really that affective for me but my insurance made me try practically every NSAID on the market before they would approve Celebrex. They denied Celebrex and even recommended a PPI (ulcer med) to take with the NSAID's because they didn't want to pay for Celebrex. After they denied me 4 or 5 times, they finally approved it. So now I take 400mg of Celebrex a day and it's a lot more effective than any other NSAID i've been on.
Avatar m tn Aspirin may prevent cancers in other but for persons with HCV and liver disease "the cure" will probably be worse then "the disease". Most people with a high risk of HCC are cirrhotic patients. The aspirin can cause prolonged internal bleeding, cause fluid build up of ascites and edema, rapid deterioration of kidney function and progression of the liver disease. All complications a person with cirrhosis wants to avoid.
1415174 tn?1453243103 re active and it causes the pain to get worse so you have to rest and it gets better. I would recommend taking the tylenol and celebrex for a few days and resting up. See if that makes it feel better longer. You should still see the doctor, though. That's just a sugestion on what to do in the mean time before you can get into the doctor. I really hope that you're able to get into the doctor soon and find out what's going on so that you can get the relief you need.
Avatar f tn Hi so I have real bad body pain and health issues that cause it. I have found myself buying pain pills Percocet 5/325 and Vic 10s and take 1 sometimes 2 a day. And have been for a little over a month now. However my Dr is now giving me celebrex and it isn't working and I am scared that I am building up a tolerance to pills. Should I go a week and be miserable and then try the celebrex? My body hurts so bad I can't even move some days and I have 5 kids with the youngest being 2 yrs old.
Avatar f tn The last few blood tests have showed only slightly elevated liver enzymes (bilirubin), slightly raised white blood count, and some inflammation.....nothing they were too concerned about....hence they think that the scar tissue might be the cause of my chronic pain. I have also read that celebrex can be helpful to prevent scar tissue.....has anyone heard this before?
Avatar f tn Before my hypo diagnosis, I was on Celebrex (another NSAID) for chronic back pain, and was taken off of it after a liver function test. You could possibly also have a pituitary or hypothalamus issue, but given the ibuprofen and the ease of testing liver function, I'd probably explore that first.
Avatar f tn Co-authors of the liver cancer and rhabdomyosarcoma studies include Yan Liu, Aiguo Liu and Suzanne Reed of the Center for Childhood Cancer at Nationwide Children's Hospital (Aiguo Liu is also affiliated with Tongji Hospital at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China); and Huameng Li of Ohio State's Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy and the Biophysics Graduate Program.
Avatar f tn There are three different COX-2 inhibitors currently available to the public– Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra. COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. It is recommended that people with liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs.
