535822 tn?1443976780 My favorite sandwich bread is light rye with caraway seeds followed by dark rye, Italian or whole wheat. I love cold meats and cheeses, preferring the meat shaved thin and the cheese about 4 times that in thickness. Brown mustard with horseradish is a must.

Avatar m tn No carbohydrates at all is not good for us, our bodies need all the nutrients but you can cut down the white bread and substitute with complex carbs, some cereal in the morning and you will feel ok, eat five or six small meals a day so that you control the insulin levels and you won't have those strong cravings of it.

Male Congratulations on the 45 lbs weight loss. Did you have trouble controlling your appetite on that small amount of food? I have recently been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, which could turn into full blown type II diabetes. I'm on a mission to lose about 23 lbs and so far, it's not going very well. You have to maintain your diet, in order to keep the weight off and to maintain your blood sugar levels. Carbs under 40 sounds extremely restrictive.

A slice of wheat bread, or one half cup of white or brown rice, is a serving of complex carbs. To gain weight, eat 6 to 10 servings per day. Consume more lean meats and legumes to increase the available protein your body needs to rebuild muscles after working out.
Avatar f tn in lettuce leaves, instead of bread, but you can switch to whole grain bread instead of white or instead of having 2 slices of bread, just have one... Try spaghetti squash instead of pasta or switch to whole grain pasta instead of regular pasta... OR simply cut your portions in half. Have brown rice instead of white rice. Try quinuoa in place of pasta and/or rice, etc. Eat lots of veggies and protein, such as lean meat, chicken, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt.
Avatar f tn I agree that you should drop the pasta, rice and bread, unless they are whole grain. White rice, regular pasta and white bread are all considered simple carbs and are metabolized quickly. If not used through exercise right away, they turn to fat and are actually in the "junk food" category.
Avatar n tn I am type 1 so mine is a bit different to yours but I suggest you start with lowering your carbs. stick to whole grains and steer clear from white bread and obviously sugar. exercise is key for me. I need much less insulin when I do something physical. Hope I have been some help to you.

I usually have one slice toasted for breakfast with 2 eggs and cheese (free carbs) of course I'm not an expert, just been learning as I go. I still have quite a ways until my due date. It's a lot of trial and error as you learn. I also never deprive myself. I do portion control. If I want pasta and garlic bread I'll have a small portion of it and lots of salad or veggies.

Avatar f tn simple carbs are those found in sugary foods, white breads and regular pasta, sodas, etc. Simple carbs are broken down quickly and if not used right away for energy, will be stored as fat. These are the ones that should be avoided. Complex carbs are those found in vegetables, most fruits and whole grains. Complex carbs are the dietary fiber we need, to fill us up. These take longer to break down and are not absorbed, as fat.
Avatar m tn Eliminate refined sugar, flour, white rice, etc as these are the simple carbs that get so many of us into trouble.
Avatar f tn Eat healthy and stay away from bad carbs and starchy foods. Bad carbs would be white bread, white rice, basically white anything lol, soda, sugary stuff, fried stuff, and try not to eat starchy veggies such as potatos. Eat white lean meats, lots of veggies, fruits, and all the water you can drink. You can go for walks, and do different kinds of squats and lunges, and even lift light hand weights.
