Avatar f tn They are everywhere and they are good for you, complex carbs.
Avatar f tn How do you eat less carbs for breakfast? I can't seem to get away from bad carbs at breakfast.
594189 tn?1386916607 Simple carbs are those that are the most refined and many tend to be made from white flour and/or sugar, which would include candies, cookies, white bread, pasta, white rice, etc. White potatoes are also often considered simple carbs, but should not be left out of a healthy diet because they have lots of vitamins/minerals (potassium in particular).

Male Congratulations on the 45 lbs weight loss. Did you have trouble controlling your appetite on that small amount of food? I have recently been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, which could turn into full blown type II diabetes. I'm on a mission to lose about 23 lbs and so far, it's not going very well. You have to maintain your diet, in order to keep the weight off and to maintain your blood sugar levels. Carbs under 40 sounds extremely restrictive.
Avatar n tn ll need to eat more fat and protein along with whole grain slowly digestible carbs. Avoid highly process carbs and cakes, candies, cookies - things which break down easily and will raise your sugar.. Make sure you put fat with your carbs as it also slows down the absorption. Use natural fats as much as possible. Ie butter or cream in your potatoes, cream in your coffee. Do not use low fat foods. Regular fat cheese and yogurt, etc. Eat the fat from your meats.
Avatar n tn I gave a comment here and the post shows I commented but I don't see it. Maybe it will show up some day but the website seems to be having a host of problems. Basically, carbs aren't all created equal, and calories are not your best source of tracking weight. Calories are one factor, but how well and how quickly you metabolize your food into sugar for energy is more determinative, as foods that turn quickly into sugar have to be burned off quickly or they store quickly as fat.
Avatar f tn Did this person tell you to cut all carbs, or just simple carbs? Vegetables are carbs. Fruit are carbs. Whole grains are carbs. Beans are a combination of protein and carbs. I think what most would advise is to avoid white flour, bagels, sweets, anything that turns to sugar quickly in your system. That's why you're craving sugar -- carbs are necessary for energy, and sugar is quick energy but also stores as fat if not burned immediately. Same with processed carbs.
Avatar n tn Google Glycemic Index [GI] and understand the difference between good carbs [complex] and bad carbs [simple]. Carbohydrates [simple carbs] that break down quickly during digestion and release sugar rapidly into the bloodstream have a high GI; carbohydrates that break down more slowly, releasing sugar more gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI. As asok mentioned, watch the carbs. Carbs are wreak havoc to a t2 diabetics glucose level. 2.
1363757 tn?1277819546 Avoid fruit juice. Avoid man-made products, white foods [potatoes, white rice, white flour, white bread], and dairy [milk, yogurt]. These are high in sugar.
Monkey Eat fruits with other foods to slow the absorption of fructose [fruit sugar]. Understand the difference between Simple and Complex carbs. Although carbs elevate blood sugars your body needs carbs for energy. Going to low can create health issues besides making your sweat smell like ammonia.
Avatar n tn Carbs raise BG so restricting carbs will help BG. when you say 6 units I assume you mean 6 exchanges which is 90 gr of carbs. If you take 250 mg at each meal that is 750 mg a day, the limit is 2400mg a day so you have room to go up on the Met. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for met to become fully effective.
Avatar f tn I am trying to eat less carbs but i need to do this right i do not know how many carbs i should require for the day? How do i find out what is right for me?
193609 tn?1292180293 What is the recommended number of carbs to eat per day? I am using a calorie counter and I am good there, but not sure how many carbs per day will equal weight loss??? Thanks!
Avatar n tn There is NO ideal carb count. Each of us is different. How many carbs you can handle without having your BG go too high (140 in the USA) is different than it is for me (I eat under 50gr a day). Google "eat to your meter" that will tell you haw many carbs YOU can eat.
Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.
Avatar f tn Eat healthy and stay away from bad carbs and starchy foods. Bad carbs would be white bread, white rice, basically white anything lol, soda, sugary stuff, fried stuff, and try not to eat starchy veggies such as potatos. Eat white lean meats, lots of veggies, fruits, and all the water you can drink. You can go for walks, and do different kinds of squats and lunges, and even lift light hand weights. Go on youtube and try the prenatal workouts on there. You can also do yoga!
Avatar f tn Don't avoid complex carbs. You need them. It's the simple carbs you don't need. Sugar, white flour, watch fruit.
978175 tn?1304439383 White foods are considered simple carbs; white flour, white bread, crackers, potatoes, pasta, and milk. Also, read the ingredient label carefully on packaged foods. Sugars listed under carbohydrates are in grams. Every 7 grams equals one heaping Tablespoon of refined sugar.
Avatar n tn Hi there. I am type 1 so mine is a bit different to yours but I suggest you start with lowering your carbs. stick to whole grains and steer clear from white bread and obviously sugar. exercise is key for me. I need much less insulin when I do something physical. Hope I have been some help to you.
484844 tn?1253968693 I would take both with a grain of salt.... I did Atkins and lost initially, but it came back almost explosively because I couldn't sustain it. Try reducing your white carbs (sugar, flour, white breads)...focus on the good carbs, veggies, whole grains, etc. Eat a portion size protein, but have a protein with each meal (like adkins, not quite so strict)...do watch your calories.
Avatar f tn t tell me yes or no I am more on the fence any way as I got told no added sugar. Nothing white ie white bread switch to whole wheat, no white rice no white pasta no potatoes switch to more whole wheat type of things and really limit those.. also add in more protein like meats and eggs and veggies and fruits . As far as recipes hehe I am still working on those but found Google was helpful on that.
Avatar f tn simple carbs are those found in sugary foods, white breads and regular pasta, sodas, etc. Simple carbs are broken down quickly and if not used right away for energy, will be stored as fat. These are the ones that should be avoided. Complex carbs are those found in vegetables, most fruits and whole grains. Complex carbs are the dietary fiber we need, to fill us up. These take longer to break down and are not absorbed, as fat.
