Avatar n tn I really struggle with my diet. My doctor said I should try limiting carbs to 50 per day. I read all labels and make sure I am eating protein with carbs. I find that I get headaches when I don't eat properly. I started logging my food because it helps keep me on the right track.

Learn, understand, and apply why simple carbs should be avoided and why complex carbs should be increased in ones diet. Being prediabetic means you have a very good chance of reversing yourself back to normal. To do this one MUST adhere to lifestyle changes; proper nutrition, maintain proper body weight, and perform daily 30 minute physical exercise. Ignore one defeats the others.
Avatar n tn If you really need those slices of bread for morning toast or whatever try buying those packaged loaves that say Italian Light on them-net carbs is usually ~6 per slice, which is low carb. Pace yourself-eat low carb foods throughout the day-don't stuff your furnace full of carbs all at once and expect it to hold you, plus your blood sugar will zoom higher when you download alot of carbs all at once. Plan ahead for snacks.
Avatar f tn If you lower calories by 500 per day and increase exercise to burn 250-500 calories per day .. you should lose 1 1/2 to 2 lbs per week, which is what is recommended for healthy weight loss. Remember .. there will be weeks when you lose more and weeks you lose less as you plateau and your body tries to protect you from starvation and wonders what you are doing. Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.
594189 tn?1386916607 I will have to try to find some cheep casseroles to make, since I have to watch my carbs my dr said not to eat corn cause it has 17 carbs- 2 fiber= 15 carbs per serving but green beans have 5 carbs- 1 fiber= 4 carbs per serving much better option, issue here is my husband will not eat green beans ( I'm sure you know that issue)

If you take 250 mg at each meal that is 750 mg a day, the limit is 2400mg a day so you have room to go up on the Met. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for met to become fully effective.
Avatar m tn My opinion I would go no higher than 40 total carbs per meal (breakfast lunch and dinner). The lower, the better. replace some carb laden items with protein foods like salmon, chicken. But be watchful that you dont consume too much protein.

Dr. Osborne or Dr. Cheng may wish to add some therapies for nutritional support of cancer. Remember CARBS once digested and metabolize turn to energy and FAT. Fat is not what you want on an older inactive dog. Balance carb intake with protein and you will be better off. All dog foods are pretty well balanced in this regard off the shelf.
Avatar n tn I think you're making a common mistake in thinking about food, which is that protein is good and carbs are bad. This isn't at all true -- the majority of your diet should be carbs. Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food.

Avatar f tn Did this person tell you to cut all carbs, or just simple carbs? Vegetables are carbs. Fruit are carbs. Whole grains are carbs. Beans are a combination of protein and carbs. I think what most would advise is to avoid white flour, bagels, sweets, anything that turns to sugar quickly in your system. That's why you're craving sugar -- carbs are necessary for energy, and sugar is quick energy but also stores as fat if not burned immediately. Same with processed carbs.
Avatar f tn We don't make up actual diets... at 14, your body isn't fully developed you, so you have to be very careful losing weight because you have to make sure you get all the right nutrients in order to grow and develop normally. You should talk to your parents and have them help you develop your diet, along with help from your pediatrician or family doctor to make sure you're losing weight properly and in a healthy manner.

Avatar f tn Things that are high in carbs like pasta breads soda ect should be limited. I can only eat 45 carbs per meal and 15 per snack. 3 meals a day and 2-3 snacks.

She also has free-range dry (I am aware of the cons of dry food; she eats only a very small amount and her primary diet it wet). However, she is begging for more wet food. She usually gets her second can of wet around 6 but by 4 in the afternoon she is whining for food.
Avatar f tn Try to stick with foods that will do good for your body, fruits, vegetables, grilled chicken, turkey, you can eat as much healthy food as you want, i consume 2500-3000 calories per day, its tough but be proactive and plan ahead! You can do it! You just have to have the right mind set.

How do I know how many NET CARBS are in a food? Personally, I like caloriekingdotcom for looking up foods but you can also use a paperback book of foods w/nutritional analysis or read those government analysis labels on packaged goods. Decide on your personal goal for total daily intake of NET CARBS.
7058746 tn?1393435420 I have it too and the diet my nutritionist put me on was 15g of carbs for breakfast. Then lunch and dinner between 50-60g. 2-3 snacks per day. No juices or milk. Lots and lots of water. Proteins are great (I'm vegetarian so this was a little harder to stay full) and no more sugary delicious food haha. Plus 20-30 minutes of exercise per day. Then check ur sugar levels when you wake up, then 1 hr after every meal (not snacks). My glucose levels stay perfect as long as I don't cheat.
1401296 tn?1280799533 however, my feeling is that your body needs all of the food groups, so by cutting out carbs, you could be depriving your body of necessary nutrients, etc. If you do go on a carb free diet and lose weight, most likely, you will gain it back if you go off the plan. If you stick with the complex carbs - fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc - and eliminate the simple carbs - such as sugar, white flour, regular pasta, etc, - you should do better. Of course, you still have to limit your portions.
