Avatar n tn Your endo can perhaps refer you to a dietician, but make sure they are talking low carb as many dieticians still follow the outdated ADA food pyramid. Low carb will not only lower your blood sugar which means you take less insulin but will help you lose weight as well.

If you say the word "Diet" many people go all crazy on you. If you feel like being on a "diet" just remember to eat the amount of calories you have to eat && to go by the food pyramid and get all the nutrients you need.

When did the food pyramid disappear and the dinner plate take its place? I understand I need to learn about carbs, but when I tried to understand the Glycemic Index, I had to go hide in the closet for an hour or two. I also have some heart issues and was told I must eat a heart healthy diet. OK, fine, I understood THAT diet easily enough.

Honestly the best choice is to watch you fat content and calorie counting. Also just keep an eye on how much sugar and sodium is in the products you consume. Just because it's healthy or low fat doesnt me it should have a ton of sugar or salt in it. Good luck!

And as far as finishing all your food goes that is usually not a problem being that most everyone's portion sizes are off, people tend to put too much food on their plate... Google 'my food pyramid for moms' it will tell you what/how much you need to eat.

Think about how many thousands of years women have been having healthy happy babies without prenatals. Being prediabetic means you have a very good chance of reversing yourself back to normal. To do this one MUST adhere to lifestyle changes; proper nutrition, maintain proper body weight, and perform daily 30 minute physical exercise. Ignore one defeats the others.
Avatar n tn I think you're making a common mistake in thinking about food, which is that protein is good and carbs are bad. This isn't at all true -- the majority of your diet should be carbs. Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food.

Avatar f tn If I craved it - I was missing that part of the food pyramid. Try to find healthy alternatives if your always craving junk food as well. I'll also suggest drinking a glass of water before eating. And eat smaller AND slower.

1142708 tn?1261137021 And sodium! For people with heart disease, that's a big item. I don't mean just the salt shaker. There's sodium in all kinds of food, especially the canned/boxed variety. I don't buy canned soups any more, never buy frozen dinners or those things in a box. Some of those will give you a full portion of sodium in one serving. Ick! Don't get me started on fast food or restaurants.
