carb

Avatar n tn I think you're making a common mistake in thinking about food, which is that protein is good and carbs are bad. This isn't at all true -- the majority of your diet should be carbs. Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food.
1666434 tn?1325262350 We are not allowed to post web links on this forum. If you use Google to search on the 'Glycemic Index', the GI will explain the differences between simple and complex carbs. Besides sugar, simple carbs are a diabetics worst enemy as they quickly raise glucose [blood sugar] levels. Fruits must be eaten with other foods to slow the absorption of fructose [fruit sugar]. Caution with tropical fruits as they contain large amounts of fructose - pineapple, mangoes, papayas.
1661682 tn?1313135396 It might be easier to list what you should avoid while pregnant. :) You don't want to eat Raw Meat, Fish high in Mercury---stuff like shark, swordfish, etc---raw eggs, soft cheeses like Brie, Gorgonzola, etc, Alcohol, unwashed fruits and vegetables and of course you want to limit amounts of caffeine to under 300mg a day. Any lunch meats you eat should also be heated up to reduce any risk of Listeria, but I know many who don't bother to do this.
Avatar n tn m trying to give e my body a break from carbs to increases my insulin sensitivity, and establish some baselines on how many carbs I can eat and still get fasting reading below 100. I'm not sure how to interpret these results. It looks like I can hardly eat carbs at all without going into predisbetic range, but the app says all my readings are in a healthy range and estimates my A1C at 5.7%, saying I'm very low risk. I know that the app is not a diagnostic tool.
Avatar n tn Is there a list somewhere of foods and there carb value. Also which are good carbs and which are empty carbs? Gaining 1/4 of her body weight seems excessive.
Avatar f tn Trying to figure out How many carbs & sugars should you have? Can someone give me some insight?

362249 tn?1441315018 s 5g of fiber or more in a food item, the grams of fiber get subtracted from the total amount of carbs in the food. For instance, fiberOne cereal has 13g fiber and 45g carbs. The 13g fiber gets subtracted from the 45g carbs, which equals out to 32g carbs total for the serving of FiberOne. (I can't remember exact amounts of fiber and carbs--so I guessed for this example).
Avatar m tn to much to list, there is a class of food that is not good for a diabetic... carbohydrates (carbs) your body turns carbs to BG, period. that is what your body does with carbs.
Avatar n tn Cut your daily intake of net carbs (total carbs minus fiber) by 10 grams. You may have exceeded your carbs while losing weight and stumbled upon your tolerance for maintaining your new weight. Once weight loss resumes, move up in five-grams at a time. Watch out for sources of sugar and starches. Read labels carefully, Sauces, beverages and packaged foods all could have more sugar or starches than your body can handle.
Avatar f tn You need carbs to live. Look up how carbs help you and how they don't. Make sure you are taking prenatals as well!
Avatar m tn I have a teenager son (16), who has problems contolling his blodsugar level and easily ends up in hospital for this reason. What kind of food is recommended for him to keep his blod sugar low/ maintain a healthy level blod sugar?
Avatar f tn If you start a meal tracker for yourself you can enter each food you eat or plan to eat and it will tell you how many carbs are in it (also how many fat and protein grams, and calories). To get your trackers go the the top of the screen and click on "My Med Help", click on "Trackers" and you will come up with a list of trackers, you can then add the meal tracker. I don't know how big you are, but most likely you'd need somewhere around 2,000 calories a day.
Avatar f tn hi, the problem isn't really in the 'amount' Spence is eating the problem is 'what' he is eating....dry food=CARBS....high carbs. as you've already stated he is eating less than the recommended amount already so that isn't the problem, as with people, cats too gain weight when they consume a diet high in carbs and dry food is loaded in carbs...grains even potatoes anything for FILLERS. they are getting more fillers than actual protien.
Avatar f tn essential nutrients are ALL the nutrient we need to live. they dont list carbohydrates for a very simple reason our body make carbs we dont need to eat them. just because you hear "we need carbs" ... a lot, does not make it true.
Avatar n tn I can't stop and I don't want to die. Does anyone have food issues and how do you deal?
1655866 tn?1320498966 d recommend that you start a food diary, in which you write down what you eat, how much and how many calories it contained. By seeing exactly how many calories you are eating/day, you will be able to figure out if you are eating properly or not. What type and how much, if any, exercise do you get? Exercise must go hand in hand with proper eating in order to lose weight/be healthy.
Avatar m tn preferably with NO carbs b/c many cats have allergies to carbs. for a list of carb free canned diets check out the site I gave above...on the right hand side of her column...BEST COMMERCIAL CANNED FOODS. if you are going to change the food also read on that site HOW TO TRANSITION from dry food to wet.....you have to do so slowly, most cats don't lke carb free cans b/c they sure don't taste as good without all the additives so it take a slow transition.
Avatar n tn Fruit, which we think of as a healthy food is also high in carbs so you need to eat it in moderation as well. So all proteins are good, (meat, fish, cheese), and most vegetables are low carb. You can to go calorieking.com for a list of the nutrients in all common foods and packages also list carbs.
Avatar m tn They are a factor, but how you metabolize your food and how well you digest it is far more important. A generalization is that belly fat is caused by the consumption of excess simple carbs, ergo the term beer belly. On the other hand, no individual is a generalization. You don't say what your overall diet or exercise level is like, so it's impossible to be very specific here. Since you're doing pretty well overall, it might just be this is who you are.
Avatar n tn Hi, you reduce your starchy carbs and replace with plenty of non starchy carbs, healthy fats, and things like soup which are filling but lower calorie.
Avatar f tn t determine your carbs by the number of calories. You have to determine how many carbs are in each serving of the individual foods you eat, as listed on the package/container. For instance a serving of bread might have 12 grams of carbs listed on the package. For help with the bar code issue, try asking your question in the Improve MedHelp Suggestions forum.
