Avatar f tn I am going through the same thing you are. Have been since day one. I've realized that pretty much staying in bed helps. If I do too much than I get worse. If I rest all day than I'm not as bad. Sip on water all day. ***** on Gatorade ice chips. Try smooties. I know it's a lot harder than it sounds but you gotta try everything.

They cost about ten bucks and last a family of three for a week if served every day, and are delicious as well as immediately handy.
Avatar n tn Actually Grapefruit juice can interfere with many meds -- especially blood pressure and heart drugs --- Many use clonidine to help with W/D's and that may also not be good with Grapefruit products. Keep up the good work.

An article in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (May 2006, 83/5, 1097-1105) has now provided some insight into how this takes place.
Avatar f tn I read those articles too. Some of them forget to mention that the level of naringenin concentration needed is impossible to achieve simply by drinking the juice, or even by taking supplements. I've drank grapefruit juice for 3 months, and it made me feel great, full of energy, plus my gallstones stopped bothering me. Yet, as for HCV, my viral load actually grew by the end of the third month. This is when I agreed to start tx.
Avatar f tn thanks Research about the interaction of grapefruit juice with drugs suggests that compounds in grapefruit juice, called furanocoumarins (for example, bergamottin), may be responsible for the effects of grapefruit juice. Researchers believe that furanocoumarins block the enzymes in the intestines that normally break down many drugs. One glass of grapefruit juice could elicit the maximum blocking effect, and the effect may persist for longer than 24 hours.
Avatar n tn Consequently, grapefruit juice can increase the levels of many drugs in the body, including several cholesterol-lowering statins. However, grapefruit juice does not interfere with the metabolism of beta blockers.

Avatar f tn Another Grapefruit Advantage Although focusing on a different component of the grapefruit, previous research supports the hepatic potential of grapefruit. Phytonutrients in grapefruit, called limonoids, inhibit tumor formation by promoting the formation of glutathione-S-transferase, a detoxifying enzyme. This enzyme sparks a reaction in the liver that helps to make toxic compounds more water soluble for excretion from the body.
