Avatar f tn 1/2 cup potato or pasta or 1/3 cup rice (15g), some type of meat (protein), a non-starchy vegetable, a serving of fruit (15g) and a dinner roll (15g) Snacks: Greek yogurt (15-17g), a protein bar (17g), a serving of fruit (15g), string cheese, cottage cheese, 1 oz. cheese and 6 saltine crackers (15g), 1 serving of nuts... My advice is to know which foods have the most carbs and make sure to check the nutrition label to make sure how much you can eat.
Avatar n tn With fruit it’s important to eat them with other foods to slow the absorption of fructose [fruit sugar]. Eat foods low in carbohydrates as carbs to diabetics does the same as sugar. Try to eat whole grains, vegies, poultry, fish and lean meats. Nuts are good snacks as they provide essential fats good for you.
Avatar f tn Whole grain cereal Fruit and yogurt Whole grain toast with peanut butter, fruit Hard boiled egg As long as you stay with complex carbs, which are those in whole grains, veggies, fruits, such as apples pears, etc.you should be okay. The complex carbs are the ones that provide fiber to keep you feeling fuller longer. Also be sure to get plenty of protein with every meal. Eggs and whole grains are excellent sources of protein, as is dairy.
Avatar n tn Don't beat yourself up too badly over it, I'm in the same boat as you... I don't really overeat, and the things that I do eat, I think out and try to make healthy meals, but I still ended up with gestational diabetes. Unfortunately, it's just something that happens because of all of the weird things that happen in pregnancy. I've learned to just go with it... That being said, I was advised to count how many grams of carbs that I take in and what foods contain them.
Avatar n tn Total CARBS minus fiber CARBS equals NET CARBS. Since fiber CARBS do not affect your glucose readings NET CARBS is more accurate for keeping track of intake. How do I know how many NET CARBS are in a food? Personally, I like caloriekingdotcom for looking up foods but you can also use a paperback book of foods w/nutritional analysis or read those government analysis labels on packaged goods. Decide on your personal goal for total daily intake of NET CARBS.
Avatar f tn Or when i want that over loaded sugar ice cream i will eat a premade mixed fruit cup maybe add a lil lime. Or bananas with low fat whipcream or yogurt are yummy. You can even put bananas on peanut butter toast.Just mix it up.Comparing the health benifit always makes me choose better. It tastes better knowing your benifiting baby, not adding jiggle lol.
Avatar n tn Portion control is important and here some general tips = ½ cup for all starches and vegetables; one piece of fruit or ½ cup of small fruits; 1 cup for low fat dairy products, and only 3oz of low fat meat or protein substitution a meal (only 6ozs total a day). To help eat less food pre-meal, eat about 7-10 almonds, 20 minutes before lunch and dinner so you will feel full faster and not eat as much food.
Avatar f tn The sweetness/healthiness of your milkshake depends on the ingredients. If you're using ice cream, then yes, it will be really sweet and not at all healthy. Why not try a protein shake, rather than a milkshake? Try a scoop of vanilla protein powder with 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup water, 1 cup frozen fruit chunks... blend and enjoy. Protein will keep you feeling fuller longer and it won't spike your blood sugar like a regular milkshake will do.
532657 tn?1213131909 This yields roughly 240 calories, 40 grams of protein, 16 grams of carbs, and 3 grams of fat. Toss in some fruit for flavor, or a tablespoon of peanut butter or almond butter for a creamier shake. These will boost calories, carbs, and fat, but they're good for your overall diet Buzz the concoction in a blender. Add ice if you like your shakes thicker. If you're using a shaker bottle, prevent clumping by pouring about a cup of the milk into the bottle before adding the powder.
Avatar n tn 2 pieces of bread: 35 grams of carbs glassof juice : 40 grams Apple: 25 grams 1 cup of pasta: 40 grams I tried low carb and it works. I have weight trained for 10 years and know how to manipulate my fat percentage and it is all about when and how much carbs I am playing around with www.bodybuilding.com is a great site to find out about macronutients I am not saying that pasta, rice, breads are unhealthy, but we tend to take 3 cups of pasta instead of 1 cup. The same with rice ect ect.
Avatar f tn How should we be following a diet? Because I've had multiple pregnancies with multiple drs and NOT ONE has ever said no fruit for breakfast. In fact they encourage it. So I'm curious to know what diet you're on our if your Dr is a quack? I really am genuinely curious because I want to know if I should be discussing this at my next appointment.
Avatar f tn org/posts/Weight-Loss--Dieting/cyst-near-ovaries/show/2510220 Remember, there are 2 types of carbs - there are the simple carbs, such as those found in sugar foods, such as fruit, and other sweet foods, along with the bread products I mentioned above that contain processed grains... those are breads, pasta, white rice, even white potatoes. The simple carbs break down quickly and spike your blood sugar levels, which in turn spikes your insulin levels - this is what you want to avoid.
804966 tn?1261895278 A multi-grain or whole wheat piece of toast or English muffin with peanut butter and some fruit is good. Eat fruit instead of drinking juice so you get full when you eat the calories. Oatmeal is another great food to eat to keep you full - try putting it in muffins, pancakes or on its own. Eggs are a healthy alternative if cooked in a dab of olive oil or else with PAM or just boiled or poached.
Avatar n tn If they are not *whole grain* (eg whole grain bread and brown rice) you are missing the fiber and many other vital nutrients found in complex carbs, and practically guaranteeing a rapid spike in blood sugar. For breakfast, add a tablespoon of nut butter (almond butter is more nutritious and more easily digested vs. peanut butter) to your whole grain toast, or a slice or two of lean turkey bacon or turkey sausage. What about eggs? They are an excellent inexpensive protein source.
Avatar f tn if you can stick to it for 3-7 days, you will feel a noticeable change in your body. If you have to have carbs, do the healthy kind, but really give it a try, just for a couple of weeks. It is a great jump start for any diet and you will feel your belly seem instantly less bloated and feel less hungry and munchy all of the time. Eat lots of fiber to stay full. Good luck!
8867510 tn?1400309344 You can eat legumes but keep it to just half a cup a meal. If you excersise as well you will look great in a 2 week period. After the 2 weeks just continue to eat healthy - whole grain bread, fruits etc. There you go girl. Hope it was helpful. I have been on this diet and it does miracles.
Avatar m tn m lucky. I drink ove rd a gallon of water, consume over 3000 calories, over 300 grams of carbs (50 of which as re fiber), 100 grams of fat, and over 200 grams of protein each day. All of my nutrients come from food, I don't take any supplements aside from a couple of vitamins. I'm 35, Male, 184 lbs., and do crossfit 3 to 6 times per week. My question again, why do I deficate so infrequently? I feel like I should at least once a day with with what I take in.
Avatar n tn Read the label and most cereals will tell you that a serving consists of 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup. Now, you read the label and see how many carbs are contained in that portion. Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries.
1343283 tn?1300898264 but if you are eating well and taking care I would not worry to much but also be sure to consider carbs and sugars when pregnant and eat more fibers and proteins....You would be amazed at the amount of carbs in foods you thought were healthy.....for me it was up and down and all around....I lost five pounds the first month due to nausea and vomiting....Then I gained a few.....right now i am like 8 pounds over my initial first appointment weight....but baby is like 7 lbs.......
