Avatar n tn Google Glycemic Index [GI] and understand the difference between good carbs [complex] and bad carbs [simple]. Carbohydrates [simple carbs] that break down quickly during digestion and release sugar rapidly into the bloodstream have a high GI; carbohydrates that break down more slowly, releasing sugar more gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI. As asok mentioned, watch the carbs. Carbs are wreak havoc to a t2 diabetics glucose level. 2.
Avatar f tn And I never a lot of sweets but with every meal that u eat only take in 30 carbs. Breakfast 45 carbs, snack, lunch 30 carbs, snack then dinner 30 carbs then snack. You can eat all the protein u want too just not carbs or sugar.
Avatar f tn I have a listing of the number of carbs I should be eating. Do you want me to post it for you?
Avatar f tn Women with gestational diabetes have to watch the carbs they eat. Foods with heavy carbs include grains (pasta, rice bread), starchy vegetables (potatoes, corn), fruits, dairy, and fats. I'm limited to 30g of carbs for breakfast and 45g of carbs for lunch and dinner. I can have a 15g snack between breakfast-lunch and lunch-dinner and a 30g snack after dinner. Proteins like cheese/meats/meat substitutes have negligible carbs.
Avatar f tn Thanks for using the forum. Diet is very important for managing your diabetes. I am sure you know that it is very important to limit your carbs because they are what raise your blood sugar. If possible, you could consult with a dietician. They can consider what you are eating now and help you to understand what changes need to be made, while incorporating the foods you currently enjoy.
Avatar f tn My doctor wants me to stay away from carbs all together right now. I have read different things regarding fruit and I am unsure which ones are safe; people say different things. I would love any kind of feedback that anyone has on some food options!
3060903 tn?1398565123 long], however, contains 51 grams of carbs and 28 grams of carb sugar. Carbs turn into sugar after eating. Some diabetics can tolerate this amount of carbs and carb sugars while others not. The only way for you to know is to test b4 eating [preprandial] and 2-3 hrs after eating [postprandial]. I's best to eat fruits prior to a workout. Your body will burn of glycogen as energy is needed. Also, eat fruits which are low in fructose such as melons and berries.
Avatar f tn be sure to balance the carbs with protein. My dietician says that 30 carbs a meal is good with a balance of protein. The protein keeps the carbs from blasting your levels up too fast. Good luck.
Panda We do know that ALL carbohydrates raise Blood Glucose (BG) let me repeat that ALL carbs raise BG rice, pasta, potato, wheat (bread), sugar, honey, most fruit ALL contain significant amounts of carbs and will raise BG. Get a BG (Blood Glucose) meter. Test before you eat, test 1 hour after you eat. if your BG is too high you eat too many carbs. Too high is over 140 (US measure) 7.8 every ware else.
5747555 tn?1408727657 Fruit is fine, but in moderation. They are high in fiber and antioxidants, but can have a lot of fructose, which digests more slowly than, say, white flour or cane sugar, but still shouldn't be overdone. But a piece of fruit a day won't harm you.
Male things which we should all avoid and the complex carbs, such as those found in vegetables, whole grains, fruit, etc. Those are the carbs that provide dietary fiber, which is necessary for good digestive health. They aren't digested as quickly as the white versions, so they won't spike your blood sugar. Do watch portion sizes, though. Try switching to brown rice, whole grain pasta and bread, etc.
Avatar m tn carbohydrates raise BG... ALL carbs raise BG. fruit contain carbs... fruit will raise BG. Fruit juice is concentrated fruit, fruit juice is has even more sugar than fruit. fruit juice will raise BG faster than fruit. In fact fruit juice is used to treat people with low BG because it is very effective at RAISING BG For people with T1, the ONLY treatment that works is insulin. If you are getting good numbers with using pills then you cant be T1. a BG of 113 is good numbers.
Avatar m tn (net carbs is total carbs minus fiber carbs.) A snack is sometimes suggested to be 15 net carbs. (Yum, chunk of cheese and handful of pecans!) Offhand I dont know the net carb of an apple but you can look that up and think about it. When the sugar levels in your blood are too high, the blood becomes abrasive to your body. If you eat all of your carbs all at once, your blood sugar will go higher than if you ration it out over the course of a day.
Avatar f tn Eat plenty of carbs before workout but don't go overboard. Don't eat carbs after 7pm or so. Eat about 1g of protein for every pound of body weight per day. Fish and lean meat have lots if protein. Protein shakes will help with bulk. Don't use creatine too much, it isn't too good for your heart :/ Of course eat minimal junk food and plenty of fruit and vegtables. There are also supliments called animal cuts you should check out. They're quite good.
Avatar f tn simple carbs are those found in sugary foods, white breads and regular pasta, sodas, etc. Simple carbs are broken down quickly and if not used right away for energy, will be stored as fat. These are the ones that should be avoided. Complex carbs are those found in vegetables, most fruits and whole grains. Complex carbs are the dietary fiber we need, to fill us up. These take longer to break down and are not absorbed, as fat.
Avatar f tn Your starchy vegetables (potatoes, corn, and peas), all grains, all fruit, milk and yogurt count as carbs. Avoid fruit juices and sodas, not to mention candys, cakes, cookies....
Avatar f tn Basically stay away from sugar and carbs. Also watch your fruit intake because those are carbs. Basically my day consists of: wake up and prick myself to check my fasting sugar level, eat two eggs and half an english muffin, prick myself 2 hours after breakfast, eat a snack which is a small apple and cheese or half a banana and peanut butter. Then lunch ill make a sandwich with turkey, cheese, lots of lettuce, tomatoes and whole wheat bread. Have a glass of milk as well.
Avatar f tn What are your cravings so far, I'm currently loving Nutella, fruit cups, and pickles. However, I had quite the hankering for a donut this morning. LOL!
