carb

Avatar f tn My doctor wants me to stay away from carbs all together right now. I have read different things regarding fruit and I am unsure which ones are safe; people say different things. I would love any kind of feedback that anyone has on some food options!
Avatar f tn YOu could put down total carbs and then in bracket after the amount of fibre. That way you have complete information. Are you on insulin, or just counting carbs? Personally, I never bother about counting fibre (I am on insulin).
Avatar f tn I agree with silverfox67 using supplements to help with your digestion and replacing lost good bacteria i.e. taking supplements of acidophilus and adding food enzymes and beano. Attack the root cause of poor digestion. I addition take ginger capsules and cinnamon capsules, What is extremely useful is increasing your fibre intake. You can use Psyllium Husk Fibre either in powder or capsule form. Start with a small dosage and gradually increase to the recommended dosage.
Avatar n tn If you eat a varied, healthy and well balanced diet and don't overdo it on the cakes, biscuits, sweets, fizzy drinks and too much fruit drinks, and exercise, you should be fine. It is true that anyone at any age could get diabetes, pre diabetes or glucose intolerance. Being overweight with a lot of fat around the belly, having a parent or siblings with diabetes, this will put you at a higher risk of getting the disease.
Avatar m tn Some people deduct the amount fibre in the carbs and then use that value for counting how many carbs they eat (this is net carbs). Other people just count total carbs. i guess it depends how much detail you want to go into. Fibre should have little impact on blood sugar as by definition it cannot be digested. For weight and blood sugar management controlling how much carbs you eat each day is an essential part of management.
Avatar f tn Any other side effects like dizziness or headaches? Those could indicate dehydration, but if its just diarrhea try eating more carbs and fibre to balance it out. Just make sure you keep up with your liquids too!
Avatar f tn Eat a healthy breakfast with slow release energy goods like porridge, egg on brown bread toast, wheetabix with soft fruit and milk, shredded wheat with milk and soft fruit, home made porridge made with milk or water with some cinnamon and a few raisins. Two hours later, have a healthy snack - a piece of fruit, celery with peanut butter, a handful of nuts, a yogurt (read the label for sugar and fat content) - "low" does not necessarily mean healthy.
Avatar f tn Eat a healthy and well balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and veg, lean meat and fish. Drink plenty of fluids - 2 litres of water is usually recommended, more if you sweat a log. Cut out or cut down on all sugary, processed and junk foods, as well as fizzy drinks and alcohol. Be more active. If you are overweight, try and lose weight and also control your sugar levels if you are already glucose intolerant, pre diabetic or have diabetes.

I feel I take in adequit fibre in my diet with plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit most of which are taken in raw and also I am mindful of drinking plenty of water. Avatar f tn There are different types of carbohydrates. For example breads, pasta, potatoes and rice and then there are vegetables and fruits. Can I obtain my carbohydrate intake just by eating (vegetables and fruits), or is it important that I also eat (breads, pasta, potatoes and rice in small quantities)?. Or do I have to eliminate them completely from my diet???? 2. I do not understand the exact relation between the amount of carbohydrates taken and the glicemic index.
Avatar f tn if you eat a high fat meal (pizza for example, the peak rise in blood sugar may be delayed). If you have something very sweet and without fibre such as fruit juice, your peak may occur earlier. A 30 minute walk after a meal may be sufficient to bring sugars down to normal after eating as well, or at least help in getting them down.
1855476 tn?1356739693 If you are eating a lot of fruit, that can be a culprit as fruit is loaded with sugar and sugar equals carbs. Reduce the amount of fruit you are eating or find a type of fruit that it lower in carbs. Also, how many carbs are you trying to stick to? I believe anything under 100grams a day will help you burn fat, under 200 is good for maintenance. It's very easy to stick to under 100g a day if you aren't eating grains and loads of fruit.
3132323 tn?1342810348 Ya fruit helps and lots and lots and lots of water will help also. Or watermelon if you like that. there is so much water in it that you dont feel like you are drinking water but it will help. Good luck I have had that my entire pregnancy and actually worse before i was pregnant.
Avatar f tn Try to eat a lot more vegies, fruit, fibre and drink lots of water.
Male things which we should all avoid and the complex carbs, such as those found in vegetables, whole grains, fruit, etc. Those are the carbs that provide dietary fiber, which is necessary for good digestive health. They aren't digested as quickly as the white versions, so they won't spike your blood sugar. Do watch portion sizes, though. Try switching to brown rice, whole grain pasta and bread, etc.
Avatar f tn Up your water & fibre intake (oatmeal, prunes, beans, broccoli, leafy greens, etc). Mild exercise helps (walking). Eat watery fruits (helps keeps you hydrated). When I was constipated earlier in this pregnancy, people kept saying prunes help a lot and they actually did. Just continue to eat high fibre meals and snacks.
558059 tn?1288550944 In regards to your pre-diabetes do some research about keeping your diabetes from progressing with diabetic diet (eliminating sugar and reducing carbs), exercise and maintaining a healthy body weight. Also, you might want to ask your doctor for an antibody test to determine your diabetic type as many people with another autoimmune disorder (such as thyroid) end up being Type 1, not type 2. Doctors don't always look for this.
4644823 tn?1357715733 In addition to the "pharmaceutical" sources of fibre I would strongly suggest you try the pulverised veg/fruit + bran preparations since the fibre content of these nourishments is very high, Also organic wholemeal bread only (no white bread), no junk food, colas etc etc.
