594189 tn?1386916607 Is 100% whole wheat bread a simple carb? Is milk a simple carb? or is it only white bread and pasta's?
1301482 tn?1325722991 i have a friend that did low carb, but honestly she may have overdone it..she literally ate less than 10 carbs in total a day. And she lost a TON of weight, but unless she eats like that forever she'll gain it back as quick as she lost it. I have heard a lot of people say low carb works for them, but I can't seem to stick to it!!
Avatar n tn they give me indigestion. I do make low carb breads from time to time (particularly for my children) out of almond flour or coconut flour. There are some great low carb website for lowcarb baking (alldayIdreamaboutfood) is a great one. However, I mostly just stick with basic foods. Breakfast is typically just coffee with cream. Both lunch and dinner will typically be some sort of meat and veges.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, it would be really difficult to do that, what with everyone having different restrictions (low sodium, low carb, low sugar, sugar free, lactose intolerance, gluten free, etc.), allergies, taste preferences, cooking skills, and the like. Perhaps visiting with a nutritionist would benefit you, so your diet can be personally tailored to you and your needs. I'm sorry we can't be of more service.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
639406 tn?1308877111 But being pre-diabetic also means there is a good chance you can turn this around with diet and exercise. Eat a low carb diet, avoiding the bad carbs like white flour, pasta, sweets. Read labels and educate yourself on what you can and can't eat. Low carb, no trans fats, lean meats, avoid white bread...anything made with white flour. Exercise is very important. Goodle "diabetic diet" and learn what to eat and what not to eat.
1054985 tn?1257173275 I was eating low carb when I was dx'd. I wondered if it was the diet that cause my Optic Neuritis! That was before I understood ON. I am back on low carb just to try and take care some of the bloating I have trouble with. I figured out if I give my injection in my leg rather than my stomach it helps some. At least my tummy is not sore!
Avatar m tn t a constant stream of carb laden food like it is today. Processing grains into flour has only been around for about 8000 years; a blink of the eye on the evolutionary time line. Our bodies have not yet adapted to processing large quantities of breads, pasta and flour products. You can do it, but it just takes a little effort. Initially I got into reading, and calculating the glycemic index of various foods. It was bewildering. Instead I just shun anything with high amounts of carbs.
Avatar n tn I am a T2D on a Low Carb diet. The problems is that my sugar levels do not come down. Why?
Avatar m tn Eat a low carb high protein diet and exercise with both cardio and resistance training; resistance training is essential. A low carb diet like Atkins is one great way to reduce body fat, and because of the high protein, you wont lose muscle. However you can use any other type of high protein diet plan, as long as you keep total calories in control.
Avatar f tn At this time when I eat very little sugar, or higher carb cakes (I live gluten free life, but flours like white rice flour has high carbs, that I coud not avoid yet, but I'm working on it). So when I eat a self-baked gluten free biscuit with higher carb flours, I get this strange vibration. Like an earthquake inside me. What do you think, can this be a withdrawal symptom of sugar? I hope so, and just hope that it will go away when my body will adjust.
484844 tn?1253968693 I was told by my Dr that my insulin level is high and after a boarderline glucose test I had a fasting 3 hour glucose that came out normal. She has suggested a low carb diet and I was wondering if any of you had advice on which one was best. Thanks a bunch!!
427555 tn?1267553158 Any bakers out there? I am wondering if I can substitute whole wheat flour if the recipe cals for white ffour, without making any adjustments.
Avatar n tn Eating a low carb diet is the best option. Eat lean protien sources like fish, chicken, beef. For essential fats eat salmon, olive oil, almonds. the only carbs should come from fruit and vegetables. Drink only water not juice.
Avatar f tn You need to completly eliminate any and all foods that contain white flour. On top of that you also need to eliminate all Carbohydrates except for complex carbohydrates. Most food products made from white flour cause a sharp spike in insulin levels. When this happens the bodies reaction is to convert this into fat. Same goes for simple carbs like white potatoes and white rice. Also watch your fruit intake. Fruit contains fructose which the body converts into fat very fast.
Avatar m tn ya i ate the usual heavy lunch really rich in carb(wheat flour bread.,fried potatoes refined oil to name a few )....and the testing was not done at home but went to a lab where my blood and urine checked for sugar.....blood 104 and urine -NIL result.

551343 tn?1506830518 s called Cooking with Coconut Flour - A delicious Low-carb Gluten-Free Alternative to Wheat by Bruce Fife, ND. So far everything I've made in this book has been a win. Muffins (sweet and savory), cookies, cakes, breads, pancakes... all very good. This recipe is the first one I tried and I thought I'd share it with you. It has the consistency of cornbread almost but is very mild flavored and works well with dinner or as a breakfast bread.
Avatar n tn Are you consuming white foods - potatoes, white rice, breads and crackers made with white flour? Consuming sugary foods? What is your daily carbohydrate intake? What is your daily exercise regimen? What is your current weight? Without knowing all the aforementioned in detail you made it difficult for us to try and figure out the cause/s of your elevated glucose levels.
Avatar m tn Cannot be controlled if you gain or maintain an above normal weight level. As diabetes86 stated, reduce your carb intake. This will help lower your blood sugar levels. For low carb meal planning go here for ideas http://www.atkins.com/Home.aspx . Start a written log of what you eat/drink and portion size, next to it your blood sugar levels. Test before you eat [preprandial] for a baseline measurement and then 2-3 hours after you finish your meal [postprandial].
Avatar n tn Along with avoiding sugary foods a low to no carb diet plan is recommended for t2 diabetics. Carbs to t2 diabetics are the same as sugar - elevates our glucose [blood sugar] above and beyond acceptable levels. A very good place to look for low carb recipes is the Atkins [diet] web site http://tinyurl.com/atkins-recipes . Replace sugar with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda or Stevia.
Avatar m tn That easily solves the situation and pasta is just a simple carb easily replaced. I know it is hard with a 4 year old with mac and cheese and spaghetti as easy kid meals but think of other starches you can give her in its place. You might try an allergist to do some testing to see what the ingredient is in the pasta that causes the issue. Oh, and obviously if you use plain white pasta, try whole wheat.
