594189 tn?1386916607 Is 100% whole wheat bread a simple carb? Is milk a simple carb? or is it only white bread and pasta's?
1401296 tn?1280799533 If you stick with the complex carbs - fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc - and eliminate the simple carbs - such as sugar, white flour, regular pasta, etc, - you should do better. Of course, you still have to limit your portions.
362249 tn?1441315018 Other simple carbs are turned to sugar fairly quickly also - that includes white bread, chips, pastries made with white flour, white rice, etc. These are also broken down fairly quickly, will raise your blood sugar quickly and like sugar, will often result in a "crash" a short time later.
Avatar f tn Gee, said white flower. Now that's funny. Meant white flour, I'm sure eating white flowers would be fine!
639406 tn?1308877111 But being pre-diabetic also means there is a good chance you can turn this around with diet and exercise. Eat a low carb diet, avoiding the bad carbs like white flour, pasta, sweets. Read labels and educate yourself on what you can and can't eat. Low carb, no trans fats, lean meats, avoid white bread...anything made with white flour. Exercise is very important. Goodle "diabetic diet" and learn what to eat and what not to eat.
1054985 tn?1257173275 m not on Atkins, but I do practice low carb, and eat a fair amount of fish, and a little poultry now and then (organic, only!) Red meat I save for special occasions. But FORGET white flour and white sugar and ALL the fakes (as a nod to the Aspartame thread). Stevia just tastes nasty to me. I eat a heap of low glycemic index veggies and fruit the rest of the day. If I do crave something sweet, then unrefined real cane sugar is the only thing I'll bake with.
284738 tn?1283106819 I whole grainly, excuse me, heartedly, agree with twehner5 and Barb135. I never buy white grains (bread or rice or flour), and avoid them as much as I can when dining out. The extra fiber in whole grain alternatives can help you feel full and satisfied along with all of the other benefits. I'm not a carb counter, but I do think whole grains over white/bleached are a good way to go for weight control and overall health.
Avatar f tn Where did you get the idea that wheat is bad for hyperthyroidism? White flour is made of wheat, white bread is made of white flour, therefore if you think wheat is bad for you, you won't eat white bread (or whole wheat or rye, which all contain some white flour as well).
Avatar m tn If you trade the simple carbs (white sugar, flour, rice, pasta, etc) for complex carbs, you will accomplish the same thing. Complex carbs (fiber - fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc) help make you feel fuller faster and keep you feeling fuller longer, as does protein. With the proper food, there should be no depression due to lack of tryptophan or anything else. Your body needs all of the different food groups, including carbs, so best not to try to eliminate any of them.
484844 tn?1253968693 I would take both with a grain of salt.... I did Atkins and lost initially, but it came back almost explosively because I couldn't sustain it. Try reducing your white carbs (sugar, flour, white breads)...focus on the good carbs, veggies, whole grains, etc. Eat a portion size protein, but have a protein with each meal (like adkins, not quite so strict)...do watch your calories.
Avatar n tn Are you consuming white foods - potatoes, white rice, breads and crackers made with white flour? Consuming sugary foods? What is your daily carbohydrate intake? What is your daily exercise regimen? What is your current weight? Without knowing all the aforementioned in detail you made it difficult for us to try and figure out the cause/s of your elevated glucose levels.
Avatar f tn You need to completly eliminate any and all foods that contain white flour. On top of that you also need to eliminate all Carbohydrates except for complex carbohydrates. Most food products made from white flour cause a sharp spike in insulin levels. When this happens the bodies reaction is to convert this into fat. Same goes for simple carbs like white potatoes and white rice. Also watch your fruit intake. Fruit contains fructose which the body converts into fat very fast.
1301482 tn?1325722991 There are 2 types of carbs; simple carbs, such as those found in sodas, things made with white refined sugar, flour, white rice, and even fruit. The other type of carb is the complex carb (otherwise known as dietary fiber), which is found in whole grains, veggies, seeds, nuts, etc. The simple carbs are broken down quickly and enter the blood stream as sugar, which if not used, is then stored as fat. Complex carbs/fiber are broken down slowly and keeps you feeling fuller longer.
427555 tn?1267553158 Any bakers out there? I am wondering if I can substitute whole wheat flour if the recipe cals for white ffour, without making any adjustments.
Avatar n tn You don't say how long you've been on a low carb diet. You also don't say what you mean by a low carb diet. I assume you mean a high protein diet, but those diets have very little clinical evidence behind them -- for most of history the only people who ate a high protein diet were those who settled in places where plant food didn't grow. They got used to it but didn't live very long, either. When they were conquered, though, and fed a lot of grains, many got diabetes.
Avatar m tn Eliminate refined sugar, flour, white rice, etc as these are the simple carbs that get so many of us into trouble.
Avatar f tn Fatty foods are not the only ones you need to eliminate from your diet. You should also not eat foods with white sugar or flour, such as candy, pastries, cakes, cookies, sodas , etc. Are you getting plenty of exercise? You may need to ask your parents to get you tested for hypothyroidism, if you do everything possible and still can't lose weight. Your thyroid controls metabolism, so if yours isn't producing enough hormones, your metabolism won't be right either.
Avatar m tn That is correct. I am a Type II diabetic. I will always be a Type II diabetic. But I control it entirely by diet only. I've been eating Paleo for 5 years now. My semi-annually A1C's average around 5.8. The idea is to avoid anything containing carbohydrates. Now, that's pretty hard to do, but with a little effort, you can minimize them. My diet is rich in eggs, cheese, meats, and nuts, Pounds and pounds of nuts; peanuts, walnuts, pecans, and almonds.
Avatar f tn At this time when I eat very little sugar, or higher carb cakes (I live gluten free life, but flours like white rice flour has high carbs, that I coud not avoid yet, but I'm working on it). So when I eat a self-baked gluten free biscuit with higher carb flours, I get this strange vibration. Like an earthquake inside me. What do you think, can this be a withdrawal symptom of sugar? I hope so, and just hope that it will go away when my body will adjust.
Avatar m tn Along with eliminating sugary foods and liquids from your diet avoid foods made with white flour [breads, crackers, etc], starchy foods such as white rice, potatoes and pasta, and most dairy products. " doing a regular exercise of 50 min" I commend you for exercising as exercise is very important with helping to lower blood sugar and hypertension levels. But, do you break sweat 10 minutes into your workout? If not pick up the pace. And, eat before working out not after.
Avatar n tn Also, avoid starchy foods like potatoes, rice, and any foods made with white flour - white bread, crackers, pasta/noodles - as these turn quickly into sugar after eating. Post back if you have further questions.
Avatar n tn I differ with above in that I don't believe one size fits all. Some people are constitutionally suited to a high meat diet, others aren't. It's not the food as much as how well you digest the food that's the key. While simple carbs such as white flour turn to sugar quickly and then to fat if not burned quickly, whole carbs such as whole grains can be fine.
996946 tn?1503249112 means avoiding fruit juices, sweetened drinks, cakes, candies, white flour prduction and getting most carbs from non-starchy veges and temperate (not sweet) fruits.
8180827 tn?1396894232 The only carbs you have to give up are sugar, white flour, rice, etc. Veggies and whole grains are the best sources of complex (good) carbs. Also make sure you get plenty of lean protein and adequate "good" fats.
Avatar m tn That easily solves the situation and pasta is just a simple carb easily replaced. I know it is hard with a 4 year old with mac and cheese and spaghetti as easy kid meals but think of other starches you can give her in its place. You might try an allergist to do some testing to see what the ingredient is in the pasta that causes the issue. Oh, and obviously if you use plain white pasta, try whole wheat.
Avatar n tn Avoid foods made with white flour [breads, crackers], starchy foods like potatoes and white rice. When foods are quickly digested, the sugar from these foods are absorbed into the blood stream rapidily thus elevating blood sugar levels. • Lose the body fat. Number 1 reason for t2 diabetes is obesity. Many have reversed their diabetes by shedding the extra poundage. Not saying you will but being at normal weight makes you feel good.
