1301482 tn?1325722991 Who has done a low carb diet that worked well? Can you give me any tips for low carb snacks/meals?
636891 tn?1365202536 Eggs with cheese or some sort of vege (onion, leeks, mushroom). I need to eat very low carb for breakfast. Coffee or tea with milk. Sometimes a very small serve of no sugar added unsweetened museli, or a little oatmeal - but I need to add extra insulin to cover those if I do. Am also very much an emotional eater, but fortunately the emotions are usually still sleeping at breakfast time.
Avatar f tn Hi, Your breakfast was very high carb considering 3 Weetabix (mostly carbs, check the box), granola/oats (also mostly carbs), and skim milk (also mostly carbs). Your reading of 126 after such a high carb breakfast may be considered normal. You might want to consider reducing carbs if you are concerned about diabetes risk. Bacon and eggs with a side of toast could be a lower carb option. Or if you really want to go low carb, with a side of vegetables.
Avatar f tn I've been doing low carb for 3 weeks and I am down 14lbs. I fell off the wagon last week, had an awful stomach bug and just couldn't bear what I would normally have, as soon as I felt well enough I jumped right back on it. Just looking for some motivation, inspiration or even just a natter.
Avatar f tn On Monday I started a low-carb diet. On Tuesday I started to feel awful and tired. I did not eat a big breakfast that day due to running late for work. On Wednesday, I woke up with the same light-headed fatigued feeling. I broke my low carb diet and began eating carbs again. I was still being lightheaded and I had palpitations. I ate a snack of veggie straws before bed and woke up an hour later. I checked my blood sugar (I'm not diabetic, but my dad is) and it was 109. Today.
Avatar f tn I am 17 weeks and have gestational diabetes. Luckily, I'm only having to monitor my blood sugar 4 times a day...so far so good. Hopefully it stays this way so I won't have to go on medication or insulin. Unfortunately, I am what they consider overweight and am predisposed. I have to say this has kept me in check and I have no gained any weight which was expected since I'm on low carb. This has been a blessing on disguise.
Avatar n tn Hi TimmysMom! I am the mom of a 17 year old who was diagnosed at the age of 21 months and a volunteer with Medhelp & The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. I am not a medical professional, so any information passed on to you here should be verified with your son's healthcare team. There's not much that I can add to Mark's excellent response. You need to be in contact (daily if necessary) with your son's healthcare team.
Avatar f tn Yes. This kid, my fourth baby will not let me eat scrambled eggs. The really difficult thing about that is that I'm diabetic and eggs is my quick, easy, low carb go to for breakfast. But no, this bub ain't havin it!!

Avatar f tn If your blood sugars are much higher than this you should try eating very low carb breakfast (eggs and veges are a good option), and see if it helps. If not, time to see your dr to work on solving the situation. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Low carb, high protein, low sugar.
Avatar n tn What do you eat for breakfast? Suggest a low carb breakfast (stick to meat, non-starchy veges, eggs). Yes, it could be dawn phenomenon. People's insulin sensitivity can vary over the day, and you may also be more prone to higher sugar levels earlier in the day. A brisk walk or other exercising in the morning upon rising (in addition to low carb breakfast) may also help.
Avatar n tn just found out my son has type 1, he was in the hospital for a week with out of control bs levels of over 500. he works on a sliding scale and carb count for his insulin and gets 15 mg of lantus everynight. i am still having alot of trouble with his high bs at night. i have that stupid fear of giving him to much insulin and then he gets lantus. i guess the ?
Avatar n tn cheese eggs and a little bit of slightly sweetened drink. Total carbs around 10g. 1 hour after breakfast, it was only 90. I think I'll try playing with it a bit more, but I'm starting to think that my body just doesn't respond well to carbs early in the day. Lunch and dinner it doesn't seem to matter, but for some reason I have to be super careful for breakfast.... Thanks for the help.
Avatar n tn many people make the mistake of removing fats from their low carb diet, which then causes gluconeogenesis. The trick is eating low carb with moderate protein and balance of calories from healthy fats.
Avatar m tn Depending on your results from your blood sugar meter you may need to eat much lower carb to manage blood sugars. This is called "eat to your meter" appraoch. An alternative low carb approach recommended by Dr. Bernstein is detailed in his book "Diabetes Solutions" and also discussed on Utube at "Bernstein Diabetes University". He recommends typically about 30 g of carbs / day mostly from non-starchy veges. You will need to experiment and see what works for you.
Avatar n tn Many people with diabetes find that a low carb diet (est. 100 g/day) or even a very low carb diet (est 40 - 60g)/day works for them. The carbs come mainly from non-starchy vegetables. You will have to work out by trial and error (using your meter) what works for you. Also you will need to check out how to properly dose both basal and bolus insulin. Look up dr. Richard Bernstein. His book is called diabetes solution.
Avatar n tn If your blood glucose was 61 an hour or two after breakfast, especially if your breakfast was fairly high carb (such as cereal, bread, etc) you might have a specific type of hypoglycemia called reactive hypoglycemia which is people who have low blood sugar after a meal high in carbs. I would suggest seeing your doctor and getting tested to see what type of hypoglycemia you have and to make sure you aren't pre-diabetes.
