Avatar n tn I shall certainly go for a Hba 1c test as advised by you. I did eat very high carb and sugars meal before going in for the test. I will have to restrict my carb intake. And desserts should be a 'no' 'no'. !! I am a non veg and have fish, eggs and chicken occasionally.
Avatar m tn For example, if you eat protein+fat breakfast (eggs, cheese, bacon, etc) versus a carb rich one (low fat muffin), you would likely feel better with protein+fat and otherwise dizzy with carb rich meal (which causes blood sugar cycling).
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar m tn it depend upon your diet plan, be on low carb
Avatar f tn your blood sugar may be cycling up and down, which may suggest eating a way that reduces the cycling. To do this, eat low carb diet, moderate protein and balance of calories from fat. Stabilizing your blood sugar will likely help the ups and downs you are experiencing after eating.
Avatar m tn High triglycerides can suppress HDL, and are associated with high VLDL. Also, high carb and low fat is what causes the preponderance of small dense LDL. The wine might help raise HDL a little bit, but will raise triglycerides even more. I'd ditch it, even though moderate alcohol is generally cardioprotective for most others. I am not a low-carb dieter myself by any means, but it's uncanny how the low-fat / high-carb seems to be going wrong for you.

Avatar n tn s a low carb diet is highly recommended, but the danger lies with a too low carb diet, or a low carb and high protein diet, which can lead to ketosis. To say ketosis is not dangerous is dangerous to forum readers.
Avatar f tn Sounds like your girlfriend should adopt a low carb diet, in order to reduce incidences of blood sugar cycling up and down. The more stable the blood sugar level, the less cycling up and down, which is causing her to feel sick. It's hard to manage insulin and medications to counteract ingesting large amounts of carbohydrates. So, if she stops eating high amounts of carbs, less need to counteract with meds. Try a day in two low carb, and you will see the difference.

Avatar m tn The best diet for people with diabetes, if you are using diet alone to control your condition, is one consisting of very low carb intake; avoiding sugars, sweet fruits, and grains and sticking with carbs mostly from vegetables along with quality protein and fat sources. If you are following a low-carb eating approach and exercising and your sugars are still high, then it is time to add in medications. A typical first line medication is Glucophage/ metformin.
Avatar m tn Barb, I was on low-carb diet for a long time, but recently I found out that for many people like me, eating a low-carb diet may weaken the thyroid or even cause hypothyroid. If you google "low carb diet and low thyroid", you will see that eating "safe" carbs like sweet potatoes or rice will help out your thyroid a lot. http://chriskresser.
Avatar m tn be careful with low carb high fat. i talk to friends at gym they do paleo to get lean. blood sugar is low but is not honest low. they eat some carb and blood sugar shoots very high and they never even diagnosed diabetic.
Avatar f tn Food, in other words, is way more complex than any diet recognizes but if you want to do low carb eat high protein foods. These would include, again, nuts, seeds, legumes, and animal foods.
Avatar f tn It is quite opposite to the establishment high carb low fat diet. This diet needs to be high fat, moderate protein and low carb. Essentially the carbs are replaced mostly with fats, and with some additional protein.
Avatar f tn Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years. Those on the low-carb diet had significantly higher cravings for carbohydrates and high-fat foods, although they were less bothered by hunger.
Avatar f tn The paleo diet is the healthiest form of low-carb diet, IMO. I would not go on a low-carb diet that was composed of low-carb junk food. If you eat a paleo diet, you are only eating real, whole foods (no junk food) and no grains. It's a lot of meat, vegetables, and healthy fats.
988694 tn?1332359479 Some people (a very small percentage of my clients) who jump into low carb from a very high carb diet will experience some thyroid-like side effects a few weeks or few months after switching such as fatigue, coldness in extremities, hair-loss or other problems." "Most people will be able to transition to a low-carb diet, even quickly, without a problem, and those with a history of thyroid problems or hormone imbalances may just need to take it a little slower.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am also trying to lose some weight, and it's just-stay healthy. I workout almost every day,or at least I try to do some walking or cycling when I don't have the time, and you need to watch your calories. But that's not it,tou have to make sure you get the good calories, not the empty ones that are in cookies and such. Women's health mag helps me a lot, too!
