Maybe a consult from your doctor to see an anesthesiologist in a pain management clinic can help. They can perform an epidural injection with local anesthetic and corticosteroids(Anti-inflamation med) that can relive the pain for a while. however it does not fix the bulge. Because your back and abs are your CORE.....
484167 tn?1210001396 anyone heard of this? about "cycling" calories and giving up on low fat/carb diets?
Avatar f tn I just purchased a book titled "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia Fatigue", and in it the author (Dr. R. Paul St. Amand, M.D.) mentions a protocol that he himself uses, and that he also tells all of his fibro patients to try. It requires you to take upto, but not limited to 2400mg of guaifenesin (Mucinex) daily. He says that with this protocol, you will notice that your symptoms will at first become worse, but will gradually disappear.
Avatar f tn If you cut out fruit, as well as grains and added sugar, it makes for an extremely low-carb diet, but to me, cutting out fruit is going a little too far. Look into the paleo diet. Some people on paleo eat fruit, and some don't, but there is no paleo diet that includes processed foods, added sugar, or grains. Letting go of processed foods is important for health and weight loss, because among other reasons, processed foods often contain grains and added sugars.
Avatar f tn This can be done by carefully adjusting your insulin doses and combine with eating a low carb diet (the low carb will reduce your insulin requirements and thus also protect you from going too low or high). I recommend the book diabetes solutions by Dr. Richard Bernstein. HE describes how to get excellent control using insulin and lwo carb diet. Even if you don't end up going as low carb as he recommends, you can still use what he teachers and a lower carb approach to get good control.
Avatar f tn The South Beach program also has a low-carb version of their diet. In my opinion, both the paleo diet and the low-carb version of the South Beach diet are low-carb diets that are very healthy. Good luck.
976897 tn?1379167602 I looked up the starch diet when you first posted that you were doing it, and I couldn't understand how it could be great, but I trusted that you had researched it and didn't say anything. Now, I think maybe this starch diet just doesn't agree with you. For myself, I'm on board with the newer findings that healthy fats are good for you and that we eat too many grains. You might be interested in a book called Perfect Health Diet, by Paul Jaminet and Shou-Ching Jaminet.
Avatar n tn Many people with diabetes find that a low carb diet (est. 100 g/day) or even a very low carb diet (est 40 - 60g)/day works for them. The carbs come mainly from non-starchy vegetables. You will have to work out by trial and error (using your meter) what works for you. Also you will need to check out how to properly dose both basal and bolus insulin. Look up dr. Richard Bernstein. His book is called diabetes solution.
Avatar f tn your blood sugar may be cycling up and down, which may suggest eating a way that reduces the cycling. To do this, eat low carb diet, moderate protein and balance of calories from fat. Stabilizing your blood sugar will likely help the ups and downs you are experiencing after eating.
973741 tn?1342342773 However, the latest approach is to take a much more aggressive approach to diet. NOT low fat, high carb any more, but instead low carb, moderate protein and enough fat for energy. This is the approach endorsed by Dr. Richard Berstein (Book: diabetes solutions, and U-tube lecture series "Bernstein Diabetes University") and also many who follow ketogenic or low carb way of eating.
8180827 tn?1396894232 I try to stay low carb diet no no can stick with just veggies I hope I don't get sick at all and veggies I hope I don't get sick at alldan the protein low carb diet I don't get sick
Avatar f tn Low carb no carb diet! It's perfectly safe.
Avatar n tn For example, you can increase light exercise (walking/ cycling), make sure you eat light meals, drink a tall glass of water every hour throughout the day, use a natural stool softener or herbal colon cleanser capsule, and add more veggies/fruit to your diet. Stay away from heavy, carb laden foods and stimulant laxatives. If none of these suggestions seem to help, speak with your doctor for further advice.
Avatar n tn I exercise a lot, jog for 4 kms (non stop almost) 4 times a week, do weights, stretches, cycling etc, Have a well regulated diet. Fasting sugar always is below 110. PP was earlier 130. Have diabetics in hereditary. I am 5.3 in ht and weigh 64 kgs. What could be the reason ?
Avatar n tn many people make the mistake of removing fats from their low carb diet, which then causes gluconeogenesis. The trick is eating low carb with moderate protein and balance of calories from healthy fats.
Avatar m tn Are you following a lower carb diet with your daughter? A high carb diet can make blood sugars very hard to control (and need lots of insulin). Low carb is safe for children and doesn't affect growth (it is the very high blood sugars that are not safe, and which restrict physical and mental development of children). If you are interested to know more about low carb and diabetes management, I can refer you to read Dr. Richard Bernstein "Diabetes Solutions".
Avatar n tn Hi. Very difficult. Are you on a low carb diet? Low carb diet is the best way to minimize lows and highs. If you are constantly having DKA your blood sugar must be so very high. I suggest you read the book "Diabetes Solutions" by Dr. Richard Berstein. It teaches you how to use and fine tune insulin doses. It also teaches you how to eat very low carb. There is a facebook group called Type1 Grit. Please look into that. Also, U-Tube "Bernstein Diabetes University".
850029 tn?1238857820 I'm looking for suggestions. I am a personal care attendant for a young man with Autism. Actually, I do respite and he stays weekends with me every few weeks. I've known the young man and his family for 6 years. Every so often (6 months or so) the young man will seem to cycle like someone with Bipolor might. He seems to just loose all control of what he doing. I am so lucky that the kid is so well behaved that even at his worst, he actually pretty good.
Avatar n tn After reading through this diet book, the only conclusion I can draw is that Dr. Fuhrman is yet another stealth vegetarian who is attempting to spread his anti-meat agenda to the whole world by disguising it as a healthy “nutrient-dense” way of eating. Don’t you just wish people would be honest about what they are doing instead of resorting to such pretenses?" I know of no diabetic that can use his diet for one simple reason... carbohydrates raise Blood Sugar (BG).
Avatar m tn Depending on your results from your blood sugar meter you may need to eat much lower carb to manage blood sugars. This is called "eat to your meter" appraoch. An alternative low carb approach recommended by Dr. Bernstein is detailed in his book "Diabetes Solutions" and also discussed on Utube at "Bernstein Diabetes University". He recommends typically about 30 g of carbs / day mostly from non-starchy veges. You will need to experiment and see what works for you.
Avatar m tn You may aslo benefit from adopting a low carb diet, which will help minimise your need for meds. Exercise and normalising weight (in case you are overweight) will also reduce insulin resistance and reduce need for meds. A good book about using low carb for controlling diabetes (and potentially reducing medications requirements) is "Diabetes Solutions" by Dr. Richard Bernstein. Please also discuss with your Dr.
1230422 tn?1301923560 Does anyone know how to set up a carb exchange diet? I used to follow one but that was over 20 years ago. Any help would be appreciated.
