1156486 tn?1262394803 THANK YOU for the information. I was able to find the cookbook and that made me feel a LOT better about the "diet" thing. I also finally realized that it's a LOW idodine not a NO idodine diet. Yesterday (Monday) was my grocery shopping day and today (Tuesday) is going to be my "cooking and freezing" day because Wednesday will be the day I go off my meds. I have received wonderful advice on this site and I am very thankful for people taking the time to write to me.
Avatar n tn Thanks!! I will try all of those.
Avatar n tn A little while ago i had a nondiabetic doctor recommend a low carbohydrate diet to help keep my blood sugars low and when i mentioned it to my endocrinologist she said that that type of diet puts extra strain on the kidneys and since diabetics are already prone to kidney problems they should avoit it. i would recommend that at your next doctor appointment you ask to be referred to a dietician to go over the proper diet aspects for a diabetic.
1464587 tn?1307491605 like I said my doc says to stay on a vegan low fat soy free diet..... but I honestly keep reading almost everywhere that the key is to stay atkins/veggie diet..... that it is most important to stay away from sugar and carbs (anything from any kind of flour) and stay with the veggies, egg whites, and meat.
Avatar n tn //tinyurl.com/atkins-recipes . Replace sugar with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda or Stevia. Also, avoid starchy foods like potatoes, rice, and any foods made with white flour - white bread, crackers, pasta/noodles - as these turn quickly into sugar after eating. Post back if you have further questions.
Avatar m tn Barb, I was on low-carb diet for a long time, but recently I found out that for many people like me, eating a low-carb diet may weaken the thyroid or even cause hypothyroid. If you google "low carb diet and low thyroid", you will see that eating "safe" carbs like sweet potatoes or rice will help out your thyroid a lot. http://chriskresser.
Avatar f tn t evolve with systems that expect a low carb diet. I have answers for all the myths surrounding the low carb diets if anyone want to ask privately. (like increased cardiovascular risk, gall bladder disease, kidney disease - all false). 'Nough said. I believe it as a scientist. I will probably need to delete this.
551343 tn?1506830518 s called Cooking with Coconut Flour - A delicious Low-carb Gluten-Free Alternative to Wheat by Bruce Fife, ND. So far everything I've made in this book has been a win. Muffins (sweet and savory), cookies, cakes, breads, pancakes... all very good. This recipe is the first one I tried and I thought I'd share it with you. It has the consistency of cornbread almost but is very mild flavored and works well with dinner or as a breakfast bread.
Avatar f tn I had that with my first, I haven't been tested yet with my second. The specialist will help you figure out diet, but the biggest thing was to watch your carbohydrates. They are what converts into sugars. Eat small meals throughout the day instead of 3. Pasta, breads, ice cream, sodas, juices, anything like that will have a high carb count. Take a look at the nutritional information and see how much carbs are in each.
5536886 tn?1455827346 Well our doctor said not to do a low carb diet as young children need the carbs to help them grow and to help develop the brain. And yes fats can be used for energy but it is not as good a source as carbs. Also burning fats instead of carbs is what produces keytones in the blood. Our son was just in keytoacidosis (which is how we got the diagnosis) so the possibility of adding more keytones is not something we will be trying to do.
Avatar f tn Haven't had it but there will be tons of info if you Google "low carb diets". If you could completely cut all sugar and basically all grains and not overdo your fruit intake, you would be eating a perfect diet for GD. (and a really awesomely healthy diet in general!
Avatar f tn They have told me to eat a fat free and dairy freediet for the next 12 weeks when iI will be checked again as surgery whilst I'm pregnant is risky. I am having a really hard time coming up with recipes and options to fill myself up, so far nothing I make had any flavour and it is putting me off eating. Does anyone have any recipes they could share?
1301482 tn?1325722991 Who has done a low carb diet that worked well? Can you give me any tips for low carb snacks/meals?
Avatar f tn This is my second gd baby out of four. Mine is very easily controled with diet. But if you end up using insulin it will not effect the baby because that is a hormone naturly made in you Nast that your bady would not be making for itself. Try not to stress its kinda hard at times because you have to watch what you eat.
