Common Questions and Answers about Carb intake for cutting

carb

Tbd When you cut carbs you still energy so you get this from increasing your fat intake and making sure you have enough protein. Enough protein can be at least 100g for a woman and probably about 120g for a man. You can use a diet tracker to work out which foods have how much carbs, protein, and fats. Other helpful natural means to control include exercise and normalizing weight. Hope this helps.
973741 tn?1342342773 Am glad that comment helped you. How are you going with your diabetes management? I find that finding some low carb treats that I can enjoy helps a lot with sticking with the plan. My weakness is actually chocolate. So, I buy the very dark chocolate (around 85% cocoa or higher). This is so rich and satisfying that just 1 piece is usually enough. There are plenty of great recipes for low carb foods these days.
4539496 tn?1356130177 I have lost about 65lbs restricting my carb intake to 60 per meal.
Business woman2 That's fantastic result, Osakarose! AHA recommended 20g of daily sugar intake for women and 40g for men. I also have a friend who has halved her triglyceride level and LDL since she started paleo/low-sugar diet. I think the trick is to increase one's fat intake to take the place of carbohydrates and limit protein to 20-25% of the daily calorie intake. Don't starve, OK???
Avatar n tn My numbers were okay yesterday, but today they are very high. I have been well within the range of carb/sugar intake the dietician recommended. I have also exercised faithfully each day. I followed the no fruit/dairy at breakfast and dinner snack recommendation, as well. What else can I do to lower these numbers?
Avatar f tn Get a good diet in place to assist with cutting down on fat and increase on your protein with a medium carb intake. 40/40/20 split being protein, carbs, fats. Make sure you have a good water intake during your day. When training don't go to heavy but rather keep it at a medium weight that you can do 15 reps for 3 sets with. Don't go to slow but make sure your technique is good and you keep the reps at a nice pace.
Avatar m tn Then I would suggest cutting out sugar and reduciing carb intake. There is lots of information available online and calorieking.com is a good site that lists carb counts for all foods. (you can also get them on labels of prepackaged foods). Many pre-diabetics and Type 2's have learned that carb reduction combined with exercise can keep blood sugar in range for a long time without the need for medication.
4569680 tn?1359580401 I have considered following the diet more closely, but I really do believe that moderate carbohydrate intake is more helpful than harmful for the average body. I tried severely cutting down on my carbs for a week or two awhile ago, and felt tired and listless. That being said, every body is different, and some bodies just don't do well with carbs. It's great that you have pinpointed carbohydrates as something your body doesn't like and adjusted your diet accordingly.
988694 tn?1332359479 Hi, low carb diet works wonders for diabetics. I went on a low carb diet, lost approx 100 lbs ! which put my diabetic levels back into normal range. As for thyroid function, I never noticed any changes in my hormone labs, due to low carb diet.
Avatar n tn Hello, sometimes after meal my blood sugar can be up to 190 mg/dl (if I ate a lot of carb-rich meals such as bread). The test with oral intake of 75 g of glucose gave a rise up to 210 mg/dl (after 50 min), and then a fast drop to 61 mg/dl (after 135 min). Is it considered normal and what should I do with this? Is such condition known and can it develop to diabetes? My fasting sugar is always around 90 mg/dl. Thank you!
1157811 tn?1263831494 I have started to change my eating habits such as cutting out sodas (it has been 7 days since I have had one!) and switching to splenda in my coffee. My question is this; what it a safe amount of carbs to consume per day, and in what form should the carbs be consumed? There is so many varying opinions about this, and I don't want to go to extremes. I love bread, but also know that they are source of a load of carbs, sugars and empty calories.
193609 tn?1292180293 ve never been into the whole low carb craze and always knew it would be a way of life I would never be able to stick with for the rest of my life. Personally, I have anywhere in the mid to late 100's and sometimes even well into the low 200g carbs a day and have for the last year and a half and yet I've lost 165 lbs. I lost my weight by exercising and counting calories. Losing weight is really just a simple math equation and comes down to calories in vs calories out.
Avatar n tn The same things that work for non-diabetics trying to lose weight work for diabetics. Reduce caloric intake and increase exercise. Many of us believe in low carb eating and the lower carb you eat you will also lose weight. Be sure if you do this to reduce your insulin intake as it will also lower your blood sugar. Obviously lowering fat intake will also help lose weight and you will have to eat a lot more vegies, salads, and more lean meat (skinless chicken or fish) to compensate.
Avatar f tn I have read I should increase my caloric intake by 300, but I am wondering what is the best carb to protein to fat ratio for a pregnant woman?
Avatar f tn Honestly I don't believe cutting out carbs is the way to go. Yes too many carbs aren't a good thing, but cutting out all (considering nearly everything has some amount of carbs) isn't good either. Your body needs a balanced diet. This diet needs to be a complete revamp of what you would eat, not just a 6 week crash course. And in my limited experience, many of those cut out the (food item) kind of diets are only temporary.
Avatar f tn Yeah, you should be a little concerned, though those are barely elevated levels. You might want to cut back on sugar and carb intake some. And watch your kidney function too since your sugar is consistently a bit high to see how your kidneys are doing.
8526246 tn?1405601876 For breakfast I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 2 protein, 1 fat. For snack I get 1 fruit (no juice), 1 carb, 1 meat. For lunch I get 1 milk, 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 carb, 3 meat, 2 fat. Afternoon snack I get 1 fruit, 1 carb, 1 protein. For dinner I get 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 starch, 4 protein, 3 fat. Bedtime snack I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 1 protein. It's a lot of food. I found salads worked well and I combined a lot of my food that way.
