It's my understanding you can subsitute some high fiber grams for carb grams, but I'm unsure how to do the calculations so I don't bother. If you like bread Nature's own has some low cal, low carb whole wheat with fiber,white and honey wheat bread.

I've been on a 'carb counting' diet ever since and have to check my sugar levels 4 times a day keeping it in a certain range. I've noticed over my week of this diet that anything that's actually a full meal, be it mostly protein and no carbs or under my carb limits spikes my levels.

Avatar f tn Hello everyone, I bought a meter and test strips because of a general lack of energy and really wanted to see what my numbers looked like. Before lunch about an 2 hours after some coffee with cream and surgar I got a 163. Then about an hour and a half after lunch (2 tuna fish sandwiches) I got a 239. Now a few hours later a I'm back at 160. I was going to log things for a week and bring it to my doctor to look at.

Avatar f tn My meal plan is breakfast I get 30 grams of carbs with no fruit and a snack 2 hours later containing 15 grams of carbs lunch and dinner I get 45 grams of carbs with a snack two hours after each meal. Snacks could be crackers with cheese or apples with peanut butter, just really watch your carb intake.

I've learned about glycemic load, which means even when something is low in carbs and sugar it can hit quicker than something which appears to be higher. Just to make matters more confusing.

Avatar f tn If your on a gd diet you just have to manage your protein and carbs. You can pop something in the oven and eat meat just watch the starch you pair with it. I usually eat a lot of meat since it's carb free to help feel me up and double up on veggies and keep my bread/rice/pasta/potatos/beans to very minimal.
Avatar n tn Hi, there are some great online keto groups and low carb / paleo groups / pages for meal ideas. I don't typically snack. Breakfast would be eggs done somehow, with either veges, cheese, or meat. I am partial to a good sausage occasionally. Usually washed down with coffee with cream. Lunch and dinner are typically meat and veges of some sort. I do make low carb breads (look up cloud bread or psillium bread for starters), and these are great with cheese, salad, salami, etc.
Avatar f tn My doctor did say that if I could not bring my glucose and A1C down, we would have to look at injectibles. He told me go very low carb or carb free diet. Which I am doing. I did feel hungry at first, the first few days. Now not so much, I hardly think about food. I was just wondering if after 2 weeks that is enough time to see some better results. I know it took time for me to get to this level.

I fell off the wagon last week, had an awful stomach bug and just couldn't bear what I would normally have, as soon as I felt well enough I jumped right back on it. Just looking for some motivation, inspiration or even just a natter.
Avatar m tn My opinion I would go no higher than 40 total carbs per meal (breakfast lunch and dinner). The lower, the better. replace some carb laden items with protein foods like salmon, chicken. But be watchful that you dont consume too much protein.

Vegetables are carbohydrates, but it wouldn't be healthy do without them. What low carb really means, or should mean, is avoiding simple carbs, such as sugar and white flower. Most fruits as we think of them are high in sugar, though it's not as quick to metabolize into simple sugar as processed cane sugar.
Avatar m tn ya i ate the usual heavy lunch really rich in carb(wheat flour bread.,fried potatoes refined oil to name a few )....and the testing was not done at home but went to a lab where my blood and urine checked for sugar.....blood 104 and urine -NIL result.
Avatar f tn I can have a 15g snack between breakfast-lunch and lunch-dinner and a 30g snack after dinner. Proteins like cheese/meats/meat substitutes have negligible carbs. Breakfast: 2 slices of buttered cinnamon raisin bread (30g of carbs), 3 slices of Turkey bacon and 1 scrambled egg.
