Avatar f tn A low carb diet has worked well for me also. I stay below 60 grams per meal. I eat three meals per day at roughly the same times daily. Read the nutrition label on everything.
1533382 tn?1357962152 I test first thing in the morning to see hat my levels are, then I eat breakfast and I test 2 hours after the start of any meal. I've bought everything according to what I can eat with the diet they've put me on. Like I said, the diet they have me on has me counting carbs. So for breakfast Im allowed about 15-30 carbs (1-2 carb choices) and I get the same amount for my 2 snacks between breakfast and lunch and between lunch and dinner.
Avatar n tn Often it's hard to lose weight if your thyroid levels aren't optimal. Do you have current lab results for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, that you could post, along with the reference ranges used by your lab? That would help members assist you much better.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, it would be really difficult to do that, what with everyone having different restrictions (low sodium, low carb, low sugar, sugar free, lactose intolerance, gluten free, etc.), allergies, taste preferences, cooking skills, and the like. Perhaps visiting with a nutritionist would benefit you, so your diet can be personally tailored to you and your needs. I'm sorry we can't be of more service.
Avatar f tn I had it bad my first pregnancy I ate three meals and two snacks a day the trick is to watch your carb intake I seen a dietician and was told for breakfast to eat no more than two carb allowance which was thirty grams each fifteen grams is equal to one carb. The best things to eat was meat and veggies salads and morning eggs and bacon.

Working out is extremely important to losing weight quickly and keeping it off. It is best to do some sort of resistance training like weight lifting. If that is not an option, cardio workouts work too.
Avatar f tn Just remember 3 meals a day under 60 carbs and 3 snacks with 15 carbs. Cream cheese and pickles are a free food, I add them to almost everything. Popcorn is also awesome. You can eat a ton and stay in your carb range for snacks. I had gestational with my 3rd. Unfortunately mine turned into type 2 after I had her. I dont have to have insulin this pregnancy now because I follow my carb restrictions and drink lots of water.
1301482 tn?1325722991 I have tried low carb and it doesn't work well for me; I've heard the same from many. The trick is not cutting out ALL carbs, it's choosing the right ones. There are 2 types of carbs; simple carbs, such as those found in sodas, things made with white refined sugar, flour, white rice, and even fruit. The other type of carb is the complex carb (otherwise known as dietary fiber), which is found in whole grains, veggies, seeds, nuts, etc.
Avatar n tn Hi, question. Diabetes is in my family. So I've become a bit more careful with diet and exercise. I got a meter for periodic checks. I always fast around 73-78. Yet after carby meal(pizza, burgers and fries), I tend to go up between 140-180. I HATE sticking my finger, and get worked up thinking about doing it at 2 hours. I'm sure sticking myself effects me, as if I stick myself then check 3 times in a row I see a steady rise. Anyway. I saw the Dr. I had normal fasting, and a A1C of 5.5.
Avatar f tn You deffinantly need some carbs but reduce how many you eat and see if that helps. Meats are carb free most cheeses some sugar free stuff is low in carbs but not always carb free. That is a big mistake sometimes people make thinking that just because its sugar free its ok but sometimes sugar free stuff is still loaded with carbs. Example i was going to buy peeps for her for easter they were sugar free but still loaded with 28 carbs.

Avatar m tn I am not sure where you live but most places in the US have free diabetes educators and you can go see them. They have dieticians there also. That would be my first suggestion they have a lot of up to date material and are very well trained. You can also call your sons endocrinologist. Good luck!

1948564 tn?1324647050 Write down your blood sugar before your meals, carbs you ate, if that is how you give yourself insulin, and your dosage. A carb is not a carb, and they are not all going to affect you the same. Also maybe the activity you had the day before, etc. If my son plays basketball the night before it affects him all the way in to the next day. This might give you a better idea of how your blood sugar is reacting.

Avatar n tn My husband is a newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetic. He just got out of the hospital with ketoacidosis and had an HA1C of 12.1. His sugars ranged from 160 - 380. We had this checked 6 months ago and everything came out "normal." Anyway, he is now on insulin, but we are having a hard time figuring out the whole diet thing. He has been put on a 75 carb/meal diet. He is 6'3" and weighed 150 lbs at the hospital, so he actually needs to put on weight.
Avatar f tn Hey there, I have PCOS and I found out Dec 2010...the reason you have little to no cycle is because the cysts in your ovaries form a "pearl necklace" in the ovary making it difficult to release the egg...and as far as the weight issue I was put on 1000mg of metformin plus found a tolerable diet soda...I also napped as much as I could...I figured if i wasn't awake I wasn't eating...but def smaller meals every 2-3hrs drinking sugar free juices like crystal light and diet A&W.
Avatar f tn chocolate and vanilla muscle milks, kettle corn made by healthy pop, carb smart ice cream bars, sugar free jello, for drinks I found the mio mixers for water work well and diet sodas taste gross to me so I found that the 10 calorie sodas that dr. Pepper company makes are low carb. I got some 10 calorie gingerale its got 2 carbs. Taste a step up from diet. I drink one a day from time to time. And they have these zero calorie vitamin waters that are good and super low carb to.
Avatar n tn They are pricier than Smart Ones or other brands like that, but the Atkins diet is low carb so these meals VERY little carbs and lots of protein.
Avatar n tn I am a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic (female, aged 49, very overweight, otherwise in good health. I do circuit training/aerobics 30 minutes, 3x/week). My doctor wants me to attempt to control my blood sugar through diet, increased exercise, (and weight loss, of course), before starting me on medication. (Recent Hg a1c test was 5.9). My blood sugar is very slow to fall to desireable levels after a meal. A recent fasting plasma glucose level was 116 after a 20 hour fast.

Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.
