Avatar n tn It doesn't sound like you're getting a balanced diet. Not enough vegetables, and I don't mean potatoes, I mean green leafy vegetables and okra and all the great things you have there. And it also doesn't seem like you're getting enough protein. Get some good daals in there. Eat some lentils, chickpeas, etc. Good sources of fiber and protein.
1201598 tn?1265473722 You are going to have to work a little harder to get that protein in but it can be done. Do your homework and study up on a vegetarian lifestyle. Some ways you can get protein is soy, nuts and beans. My teenage daughter wanted to be a vegetarian for a few years so I had to learn how to cook vegetarian. She's not doing it so much anymore but I still use soy, like the soy crumbles in soups or the firm tofu in veggie stir fries. She also likes the Boca burgers, which is a soy burger.
Avatar f tn A low carb diet has worked well for me also. I stay below 60 grams per meal. I eat three meals per day at roughly the same times daily. Read the nutrition label on everything.
1533382 tn?1357962152 I test first thing in the morning to see hat my levels are, then I eat breakfast and I test 2 hours after the start of any meal. I've bought everything according to what I can eat with the diet they've put me on. Like I said, the diet they have me on has me counting carbs. So for breakfast Im allowed about 15-30 carbs (1-2 carb choices) and I get the same amount for my 2 snacks between breakfast and lunch and between lunch and dinner.
Tbd Are you vegetarian for any personal reason? Would you consider including other protein sources such as those from whey protein, or eggs? Maybe you could also look into a protein supplement to include with your regular meal, in a shake for example. Fruits are high in sugar. I would be looking into eating a low carb and/or ketogenic diet. It is possible to do this even if you are vegetarian, but will need quite a lot of work on food preparations and research.

At the moment I try to co Additionally I workout 4 days a week in which each work out consists of a 15 min cardio session and a 45 min weight lifting session of 4 sets of high reps (i.e. 4x 10-12 reps). I try to focus on the major muscle groups throughout my body.
Avatar n tn Often it's hard to lose weight if your thyroid levels aren't optimal. Do you have current lab results for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, that you could post, along with the reference ranges used by your lab? That would help members assist you much better.
Avatar f tn Government and ADA websites are virtually worthless when it comes to diabetes. Bagels are one of the worse things for us, and "low sugar jam"??? I encourage you to eat various foods and then test two hours after the meal to see if you are below 140 at that time. This will give you information about various foods and how they affect you. I also ate pretty healthy before diagnosis, only not healthy for a diabetic.
Avatar n tn Eating a low carb diet is the best option. Eat lean protien sources like fish, chicken, beef. For essential fats eat salmon, olive oil, almonds. the only carbs should come from fruit and vegetables. Drink only water not juice.
Avatar m tn You need approximately 2500-3000 calories per day which is spread across 3 meals a day with snacks between meals. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar m tn As you are discovering eating lower carb is very beneficial to management. When eating low carb you may need to add more protein and healthy fats for energy. I see you are vegetarian. Do you still take dairy? butter / ghee/ cream can all be part of your diet if you do. Nuts can also be good. Olive, coconut and nut oils can be good. Use your blood sugar meter to monitor the effects of various foods on your blood sugar and then you can use this to adjust your diet.
Avatar m tn Meaning for breakfastss, I only consume 6 grams of Carb, and at lunchs and dinners meals, I allow myself only 12 grams of Carb. These days I can buy such low-carb foods, made by the Tortilla Factory, tortillas with such low-carb at Wal-mart. This rule invented by Dr. Richard Bernstein, author of this book :Diabetes Solutions". You can log onto amazon .com to read reviews of this book. The rule is very SIMPLE: to stablize the blood sugar, I always try to LOWER my carb intake.

Avatar f tn Protein is the main ingredient that needs attention as a vegetarian. You have to make sure you are properly taking in protein combos at all meals. Plant protein is good for the body and will not harm the Liver; in fact people with liver disease are encouraged to eat more vegan vegetarian meals. You get protein from plant sources, such as soy milk, rice milk, soy yogurt, soy cheese, soy ice cream, and rice ice cream.
Avatar m tn Thanks for responding. I am a non vegetarian. My water intake is about 4 to 5ltrs/day, i am on a low carb high protein diet. I have been monitoring my diet regularly and it has changed drastically bcoz of dieting for wt loss. but i have been facing this issue since childhood. I checked with a general physician but he says he has no clue regarding this condition.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, it would be really difficult to do that, what with everyone having different restrictions (low sodium, low carb, low sugar, sugar free, lactose intolerance, gluten free, etc.), allergies, taste preferences, cooking skills, and the like. Perhaps visiting with a nutritionist would benefit you, so your diet can be personally tailored to you and your needs. I'm sorry we can't be of more service.
