Avatar n tn Hi I recently purchased Chitosan weight loss supplement and I was wondering if it would effect the birth control pill or make it ineffective?
Avatar f tn Carb Blockers are diet pills that work by inhibiting the metabolism of carbohydrates into stored fat. Brand names include Carb Intercept, Anatril,C Block and Carb Cutter.
1727909 tn?1314845210 Hi there! Well, without a detailed description or a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to say if the hunger could be related to GERD and if it would resolve with a surgical intervention. Aside GI causes, increased hunger could also result from hormonal/ endocrine and neurological causes. I would suggest consulting a gastroenterologist for a detailed evaluation and suggestion of an appropriate management plan. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn And I have basically continued to watch what I eat. Has this happened with anyone else? Do other beta blockers have this effect as well? My husband is on a beta blocker, and he does not have this problem.
Avatar f tn IST is exceptionally hard to manage, and often is either just tolerated or managed with medications such as beta blockers (which if the asthma is very severe, can be exacerbated by beta blockers). Ablation of the sinus node is rarely performed and done and if so, only in the most severe cases. This is because the sinus node is smaller in size, and management of IST often means that the entire sinus node can be damaged.
Avatar f tn m taking beta blockers. My PACs respond well to beta blockers but sometimes they break through the beta blockade. It typically happens if I'm on a low carb diet (for some mysterious reason I haven't yet figured out) Lifting weights is notorious for provoking premature beats. The adrenaline levels in your blood can increase 100 times from baseline, and the heart rate isn't as high as during aerobic exercise.
Avatar f tn It happened again last night, and the only explanation I have for it is a very heavily carb-laden meal late in the evening. A couple of weeks ago, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I think eating a very large pomegranate late in the evening caused it. Same MO...heart rate upper 80s/lower 90s sustained for hours.
225237 tn?1333138999 There is a book I recommend it is called sugar blockers, you must take care of your self now and try your best. I wish I would have had that advice when I told I was prediabetic. You know there is something you can start taking now to control it. It is called Mulberry leaf vitamin all natural. Also cinnamon, and there are other natural herbs that can help. If you are over weight it is best to get rid of that extra weight.
Avatar n tn LipoSan with Chitosan; Hydoxycut; Hoodia, Fahrenheit... etc. The bottom line is that these pills can't mimic or substitute exercise and self-monitoring of food consumption... that kind of control (discipline) lies in the mind of the individual. At best, some of these pills offer vitamin and mineral supplementation, which you could get in most inexpensive 1 a day vitamin/ mineral tabs.
1124887 tn?1313754891 I should mention that I immediately stopped my low carb diet when the PACs were at the worst. I also tried to take some rapidly acting beta blockers (propranolol) which had always been effective in the past. It didn't help. I keep having this nagging fear that my PACs will return, because 1) I have no idea what really triggered them, and 2) beta blockers did not help.
Avatar n tn For example, eighteen percent of people with high blood pressure can reduce the pressure by taking simple calcium supplements. That study was funded by a company manufacturing calcium-channel blockers, for whom I worked briefly two decades ago. A long, long time ago, when Obama was a gleam in his father's eye, I worked in college in a behavioral science lab and we experimented with use of conditioning to reduce blood pressure.
Avatar f tn Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years. Those on the low-carb diet had significantly higher cravings for carbohydrates and high-fat foods, although they were less bothered by hunger.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
1451080 tn?1438527660 As a family of 5 with two children and myself being on meds and only one person working, I need some economical low carb ideas for meals and/or snacks. The low carb thing is new to my entire family. Any info would be helpful. Also, any info on how to naturally lower my blood pressure is also welcome. Thanks!
1392936 tn?1280117194 There is also a condition where your body produces too much insuline after a high-carb meal. This is not a disease pr say, more of a condition where you should avoid too much sugar and white bread. Your blood sugar levels drops too quick, putting your body in an "alarm" state, where you produce too much adrenaline and get palpitations. Both conditions can easily be ruled out or confirmed by a general physician. In general, your symptoms seems a bit like anxiety reactions.
Avatar f tn He prescribed a beta blocker, instructed me to monitor my BP (which has continued to run very high despite the meds. As a former nurse, I know that beta blockers are more effective for arrythmias than for controlling hypertension, but due to my cluster headaches I can't take calcium blockers), and prescribed an anticholesterol drug.
988694 tn?1332359479 Hi, low carb diet works wonders for diabetics. I went on a low carb diet, lost approx 100 lbs ! which put my diabetic levels back into normal range. As for thyroid function, I never noticed any changes in my hormone labs, due to low carb diet.
705366 tn?1253634943 I too take beta blockers AND calcium channel blockers AND ACE inhibitors AND sodium channel blocker antiarrythmics. Nothing could stop the tachydysrhythmias. I DID have 3 ablations, but there are no promises with that. If they CAN be successful, I would highly recommend the ablation approach to control the rhythm problems. I can get awfully tired and dizzy from being on all that stuff, but if I don't take it, my rhythms run away.
8526246 tn?1405601876 For breakfast I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 2 protein, 1 fat. For snack I get 1 fruit (no juice), 1 carb, 1 meat. For lunch I get 1 milk, 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 carb, 3 meat, 2 fat. Afternoon snack I get 1 fruit, 1 carb, 1 protein. For dinner I get 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 starch, 4 protein, 3 fat. Bedtime snack I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 1 protein. It's a lot of food. I found salads worked well and I combined a lot of my food that way.
1301482 tn?1325722991 Who has done a low carb diet that worked well? Can you give me any tips for low carb snacks/meals?
1230422 tn?1301923560 Does anyone know how to set up a carb exchange diet? I used to follow one but that was over 20 years ago. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I am 22 years old and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about 8 months ago. Things have been going relatively well so far, my insulin needs have been pretty straight forward and I started on the minimed pump about 4 months ago. Recently, just these past few days, i have been having high blood sugars throughout the day despite waking up with normal blood sugars and maintaining normal levels throughout the night.
Avatar f tn This can be done by carefully adjusting your insulin doses and combine with eating a low carb diet (the low carb will reduce your insulin requirements and thus also protect you from going too low or high). I recommend the book diabetes solutions by Dr. Richard Bernstein. HE describes how to get excellent control using insulin and lwo carb diet. Even if you don't end up going as low carb as he recommends, you can still use what he teachers and a lower carb approach to get good control.
