Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with rectal cancer during colonoscopy then last Thursday he had surgery transanal excision to remove tumor but while in there dr realized it was more invasive than he first thought and only took a second biopsy now he s talking about MRI and chemo and radiation to shrink the 2 cm tumor he said it's either stage 2 or 3 I'm really scared he has bleeding and thinner stools I wonder if dr is being conservative to avoid a colostomy this wait is killing me we are not m
Avatar m tn CA 19-9 is a tumor marker in gall bladder cancer and raised levels are used to detect secondaries or spread of cancer. Therapy is based on the stage of cancer and also on the histological grading of the cancer. With therapy the CA 19-9 levels should come down. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) is a revolutionary treatment for advanced liver cancer that utilizes new technologies to deliver radiation directly to the site of tumors. Conventional radiotherapy can only be applied to limited areas of the body, and it adversely affects nearby tissues.

Avatar n tn I recently asked a quesrion regarding a patient with a small rectal cancer that could have been treated with radiation, but the radiologist consulted with does not recommend radiation as the patient had a cobalt implant 40 years ago for cervical cancer & thinks she has had too much radiation. She is 79 years old & NEEDS TO KNOW if there is another way to treat it without surgery requiring a colostomy.
484033 tn?1208516117 Hi. Since you have stage 2a colon cancer, you're probably going to receive either one or a combination of the following drugs: Capecitabine, Fluorouracil, and Oxaliplatin. All three drugs, whether used singly or as part of a combination regimen, are relatively well tolerated and have "milder" adverse effects when compared to other chemotherapy drugs.
Avatar f tn If she is dealing with Rectal cancer, then she will need surgery and possible chemo and radiation. If she is dealing with Colon and Rectal cancer, then she will need all the above. Her treatment plan will be under the discretion of her physician, so it is really difficult to say exactly how he/she will approach this as physicians don't have the same exact approach in treating this.
Avatar n tn The same virus that is implicated in causing most cervical cancer is also thought to cause most rectal cancer. So, keeping a close eye on the cervix and ovaries is important. You should also continue to get regular pap smears. Ovarian cysts are very common and odds are with you that it is a benign cyst. If you continue to get the recommended checks on time, then you will catch any changes early. My thoughts and prayers are with you for healing!
Avatar m tn I had surgery in 2005 for rectal cancer and have a colostmy bag. Now 3 years later everything had been clear but last week Dr. said disease had come back and probably had 2 years (outside) to live. How can it go from disease free to terminal in just a couple of months?? This discussion is related to Colon Cancer - Please Help!.
Avatar f tn My sister has Stage IV Rectal cancer. She was diagnosed in March of 2007. She had radiation and the rectal tumors are gone. It has metastasized to her lung and liver. She had surgery on her liver and they burned a few lesions off but they returned and I believe with a vengence. She has had many rounds of chemo and radiation and the doctors say there is no more treatment they can give her. In March 2009 they found a new tumor that had perforated the lining of her vagina.
Avatar f tn She was diagnosed with Stage IV rectal cancer in March 2007 and then had tumors develop in the hip bone and also in her pelvic area where she had previously had the trauma to her body. I am going to do more research on this to find if there are more people that this has happened to. It very well could be coincidental but there might be a correlation to it.
Avatar n tn Had stage 3T, if I remember correctly, rectal cancer diagnosed in Feb. 2005, female, 48 years old at time. Radiation before surgery. Never certain if I had node involvement, but tumor was through the wall. Rectum removed and "j-loop" surgically "installed". I have had continuously before and after surgery IBS and much diahrea and now have stool incontinence. Surgeon just drained what he called a subcutaneous staph infection (very painful) next to anus.
Avatar n tn My wife also had radiation for rectal cancer about 10yrs ago and was radiated through both hips the rectum and the vagina. She now has pain in the lower region of her vagina and it comes and goes but lately has gotten worse. The pain varies from a very bruised feeling and at times with some pain radiating down the legs. At other times she has a sensation of feeling like she has fine cactus needles on the surface of the skin where her vaginal hair is.
Avatar m tn i have colon cancer and had radiation and chemo.
Avatar f tn Colon cancer and rectal cancer may be associated with a diet low in fiber and high in fat and calories: Probably A sedentary lifestyle: Yeah, but do try to get at least a little bit of exercise each day. Diabetes: Nope Obesity: I'm only 135 pounds Smoking. I don't smoke Alcohol: I don't drink Growth hormone disorder: I don't think so. Radiation therapy for cancer: I've never had cancer or anyone in my family except for my granda who was a smoker.
Avatar f tn My mother underwent chemo, radiation and surgery last fall (had surgery in December) for stage 3A rectal cancer. She now has a temporary ileostomy. Right before she was to have surgery to reverse the ostomy, they found a stricture in her colon which was caused by the radiation. Part of her colon is completely collapsed (the radiation killed the blood vessels to this area).
Avatar f tn Ok, after the scarey diagnosis of rectal cancer on Feb 21 following colonoscopy, then a CT scan to check for spread (there was none) a consultation with a rectal surgeon and an oncologist with blood work.....finally the day of the rectal endoscopy ultrasound to determine if there was any spread to lympth nodes, and to see the depth of the polyp and do the staging. But good news!
Avatar m tn Well, it’s not time to panic just yet. I’m a prostate cancer survivor, had radical prostatectomy in Jul 2018, unfortunately still dealing w/ metastatic sirens, I didn’t catch it early enuf. Hard & bulbous does seem suspicious for prostate cancer, but he needs more testing. 1st, obviously, is a PSA test. But if that comes back suspicious, my advice would be, don’t agree to a prostate biopsy right away - there another test called PHI = Prostate Health Index.
1806721 tn?1554333407 I was lucky to be diagnosed of stage I rectal cancer at 35, and had an aggressive surgery to treat the cancer. Post-op biopsy shows that my cancer is cured, but I'm stll at high risk for cancer recurrence or new CRC elsewhere in my colon. I'm a mother of 2 young kids. It's scary to look forward and think about what might happen to me in the future. Hope to find someone with same diagnosis here to connect as friends and talk to. Thanks!
Avatar n tn My sister had rectal cancer (Stage IV), it had spread to lung and liver. She had radiation and chemo on and off for 2 years. She lived 2 years and 3 months after being diagnosed with metastatic cancer. She just passed May this year. Different people tolerate and respond to different treatments, so no one can say for sure how long anyone has to live. My sister was never told how long she had and she never asked.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer (has metastasized in my lungs). My current CEA level is at 113 after some initial chemo treatments and radiation (The CEA level came down from a high of 372.5 at the 1st of September.) The tumor (mucinous adenocarcinoma), which is pre-sacral and perirectal, did not originate in my colon or rectum per the doctor who performed my last colonoscopy in July. This procedure, as well as two previous colonoscopies, produced a single benign polyp.
Avatar f tn Son diagnosed 12/2018 with colorectal cancer. Tumor removed 9/2019 post chemo and radiation. Reconnect 11/2019 and two days later rushed to ICU and surgery for complete lg colon removal due to CDIFF as total toxicity through out body. Onintubated and in ICU for one week. Family notified he may not survive, but he did. In 1/2020 complained of discomfort when sitting. Dr said residual pain.

Avatar m tn In Dec 2014 I had a radical nephrectomy to remove a renal papillary cell carcinoma, as a result I am left with one kidney which is 37% functional. In Jan 2016 I had a bowel cancer op and the result is Stage C in that one lymph node tested positive from the 14 removed. I have been referred to Oncology and have to give my decision whether or not to undergo chemotherapy.
Avatar n tn my father was told today he has prostate cancer. He is 82. His gleason score is 7 and 7 out of ten core biopsies are cancer. Upon exam, the dr. could feel a protrusion. Dr. said watchful waiting was not an option, neither is surgery. my father does not want the daily radiation treatments and chose the hormone treatment, one shot every 3 months. I need to know if this is truly good treatment and life expectancy. Dr. believes it is confined to prostate.
Avatar m tn i just had a biopsy done and all 12 samples came out positive for cancer. It seems to me that if all 12 samples have cancer it is very big. it was T1c and Gleason score of 6. i think i have all this correct. My doctor told me he is pretty sure that the cancer was just in the prostate. Do you know how he can tell this. He even said he thought i had a 97% cure rate and he didn't think i would have to take radiation after the surgery. i was just wondering how he knows so much just by a biopsy.
