In Dec 2014 I had a radical nephrectomy to remove a renal papillary cell carcinoma, as a result I am left with one kidney which is 37% functional. In Jan 2016 I had a bowel cancer op and the result is Stage C in that one lymph node tested positive from the 14 removed. I have been referred to Oncology and have to give my decision whether or not to undergo chemotherapy.
Hi there, I posted a few weeks ago to say my Mum may be going on a trial as they were all out of options. She started the trial yesterday. They are trying a combination of eribulin and capecitabine. As it's a phase 1 trial it's to establish a safe dose so she will be given the drugs in an increasing amount to see what the body can handle and the effect it has. I will keep you all posted on her progress and any good news that comes from the trial.
Mother (66F, colon CA IIIB) is starting her 4th round of XELOX (capecitabine+oxaliplatin) and has 4 more to go. Her neutrophils are naturally low (~1.6) without chemo (possibly related to the synthroid she has been taking since 2010?). By round 2 her neutro dropped to .6 so they gave her Neupogen and stopped capecitabine for 4 days. They gave her a longer-acting version of Neupogen before round 3 and lowered the dose of oxa to 90%. Before round 4 her neutro was back down at .9.
CA 19-9 is a tumor marker in gall bladder cancer and raised levels are used to detect secondaries or spread of cancer. Therapy is based on the stage of cancer and also on the histological grading of the cancer. With therapy the CA 19-9 levels should come down.

I think a triaged approach to what you want from your treatment would help and am sure you discussed this with your doctor. First and foremost, that the treatment is effective and purging the cancer and putting you into remission. But retaining your hair can also be on the list of things you would like. Lower on the list, but there.
My dad has been diagnosed with colon cancer and needs Chemo- there are many chemo options and he's trying to decide which one to take. He doesn't want to take one that will make him loose his hair or cause him to loose weight. Does anyone have any experience with the different chemo options, and is there a specific type you can recommend? How bad are the side effects? Is the prognosis following chemo good?
Any information will be appreciated. I'm very worried.

People with chronic hepatitis B had gastric cancer rates that were about 49% higher than the control group. There were higher rates of gastric cancer even in patients with no family history of stomach cancer.

the result was the removed mass was another kind of cancer which is colon cancer. now she has double cancer (ovarian & colon).
She needs to start the chemotheraphy after we came back
It was 4 cycle of carb/taxol following by 4 cycle of xeloda
in the beginning of June she took the first cycle of carb/taxol & after 21 days another doctors advised to change the treatment to Taxol/cisplation & 5FU.
Gastric cancer and small lesions are often not visible on CT scans unless the lesion is large - the larger the cancer/primary tumor, the more likely CT can identify it. That is why endoscopy is often performed to evaluate ulcers and to look for cancers via direct visualization.
Have you seen a gastroenterologist yet? Have you had an endoscopy yet?
My 88 year old mother was diagnosis in December with gastric cancer. She is also in stage 5+ Alzheimer's. The cancer is about stage 2 and appears to have at least 1-2 lymphnodes involved. She had a CT which showed possible lymphnode involvement and also a 17 mm noncalcified nodule on her right lung and a 12 mm lobulated nodule on her left lung. No way to know for sure if those are cancer without an invasive biopsy.
I would suggest consulting you doctor for alternative brands for the same drug (capecitabine), that might be cheaper or considering alternative thereputic measures that you may be able to afford. It might also be a good idea to contact the social services in your region, if they would be in a position to help.

Meaning the tumor in her ovaries is the same kind of tumor that was involved in her gastric cancer and not the type typically found in ovarian cancer? Does that make sense? Regardless, it sounds like her cancer is aggressive. It's unfortunate that the doctors are not agreeing or conferring and giving mixed messages putting you in a position of feeling like you have to choose yourself. At this time, professional guidance for the best outcome is in order!
i am 18 years old i suffer from indigestion for 1 year already 24/7 i feel bloated 9 month ago i had upper GI barium test which showed Gerd,gastritis and other small inflammations i took all medicine but its still feels same I'm afraid that i might have cancer could it grow just in 1 year? p.
To determine if the risk of gastric cancer is high, risk factors for gastric cancer such as family history of gastric cancer; personal history of infection of the stomach by Helicobacter pylori; presence of a polyp larger than 2 centimeters in the stomach, presence of pernicious anemia, or presence of inflammation and swelling of the stomach for a long time (chronic atrophic gastritis) must be present. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation.
I am a 56 year old female who has had gastric problems for many years. I had an endoscopy done 6 years ago and numerous polyps were found in my stomach. The surgeon biopsied some of them and they were benign. I have been on Pantaloc 40 mg. twice a day for many years and most of the time I am not too bad. In November I had an episode of epigastric pain, pain under the right ribcage, severe nausea and vomiting. In a few days the pain subsided but the nausea has remained.
