484033 tn?1208516117 Hi. Since you have stage 2a colon cancer, you're probably going to receive either one or a combination of the following drugs: Capecitabine, Fluorouracil, and Oxaliplatin. All three drugs, whether used singly or as part of a combination regimen, are relatively well tolerated and have "milder" adverse effects when compared to other chemotherapy drugs.
Avatar m tn In Dec 2014 I had a radical nephrectomy to remove a renal papillary cell carcinoma, as a result I am left with one kidney which is 37% functional. In Jan 2016 I had a bowel cancer op and the result is Stage C in that one lymph node tested positive from the 14 removed. I have been referred to Oncology and have to give my decision whether or not to undergo chemotherapy.
408448 tn?1286883821 Anyone ever use Xeloda pills? It is for colon cancer, but has been used in ovarian too. More for mucinous type. My cancer got pretty active on last treatment.
Avatar m tn This week I was given the bad news that I had Esophageal Cancer, squamous cell carcinoma. I am 54 year old male that was a pack a day smoker for almost 40 years. It started a couple of months ago. I couldn't swallow anything, I would try and dislodge food that was stuck down my throat with water. But this would work and sometimes not. It's more of a discomfort than pain. I got myself to the emergency at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I posted a few weeks ago to say my Mum may be going on a trial as they were all out of options. She started the trial yesterday. They are trying a combination of eribulin and capecitabine. As it's a phase 1 trial it's to establish a safe dose so she will be given the drugs in an increasing amount to see what the body can handle and the effect it has. I will keep you all posted on her progress and any good news that comes from the trial.
Avatar f tn Was that with the primary esophageal cancer with secondary lung cancer? Or was it just with lung cancer?
Avatar m tn Mother (66F, colon CA IIIB) is starting her 4th round of XELOX (capecitabine+oxaliplatin) and has 4 more to go. Her neutrophils are naturally low (~1.6) without chemo (possibly related to the synthroid she has been taking since 2010?). By round 2 her neutro dropped to .6 so they gave her Neupogen and stopped capecitabine for 4 days. They gave her a longer-acting version of Neupogen before round 3 and lowered the dose of oxa to 90%. Before round 4 her neutro was back down at .9.
Avatar m tn CA 19-9 is a tumor marker in gall bladder cancer and raised levels are used to detect secondaries or spread of cancer. Therapy is based on the stage of cancer and also on the histological grading of the cancer. With therapy the CA 19-9 levels should come down. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I think a triaged approach to what you want from your treatment would help and am sure you discussed this with your doctor. First and foremost, that the treatment is effective and purging the cancer and putting you into remission. But retaining your hair can also be on the list of things you would like. Lower on the list, but there.
1387175 tn?1326400997 Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Prilosec does not increase your risk of getting esophageal cancer. The thing that is causing you to need prilosec causes the increase in risk of esophageal cancer. So whether or not you take prilosec for your problem, doesn't change you risk of developing esophageal cancer. Have you tried dietary changes to see if that helps your GERD enough so that you don't need prilosec. Have you tried H2 blockers?
Avatar f tn I am sorry to know about your husband’s health. Esophageal cancer is a very aggressive cancer. Treatment of stage 4 esophageal cancer usually includes chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgical removal of the affected part of the esophagus. Unfortunately, once it has spread, especially to places like the liver, long-term survival is difficult. Cytotoxic chemotherapy is the most effective treatment modality for patients with metastatic disease.
Avatar n tn My dad has been diagnosed with colon cancer and needs Chemo- there are many chemo options and he's trying to decide which one to take. He doesn't want to take one that will make him loose his hair or cause him to loose weight. Does anyone have any experience with the different chemo options, and is there a specific type you can recommend? How bad are the side effects? Is the prognosis following chemo good? Any information will be appreciated. I'm very worried. Thank you.
Avatar f tn On occasion, patients treated with SIR-Spheres® have had such marked shrinkage of the liver cancer that the cancer can be surgically removed at a later date. This has resulted in a long-term cure for some patients. Clinical trials of SIR-Spheres® have been conducted within the framework of rigorous scientific protocols in major teaching hospitals and cancer centers. Phase I, II and III trials have been completed.
Avatar n tn the result was the removed mass was another kind of cancer which is colon cancer. now she has double cancer (ovarian & colon). Avatar m tn My mom has been diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. The cancer has spread to the lymph nodes but not to other organs. She is 91 years old. My question is twofold. They recomend radiation therapy. Will this help to improve her quality of life and perhaps extend her life, and I would like to know realistically what her life expectancy is with this diagnosis. This discussion is related to esophageal cancer life expectancy.
Avatar m tn It seems that when I look up symptoms for esophageal cancer, hiatal hernia, and GERD, that they all have the same symptoms with the exception of bleeding (which is late in the cancer stages). Knowing that I have a hiatal hernia and GERD, how might I get a clue from symptoms if I were developing esophageal cancer without getting a regular endoscope?
Avatar f tn Weekly Taxol, Etoposide, and Allympta (for small cell lung cancer) are all used for ovarian cancer with varying success.
Avatar n tn D Doctor presented to my father the diagnosis of esophageal cancer. My father was admitted and was seen by gen Surgeon in the a.m. Gen Surgeon the did a Endoscopy with biopsy of 2 diff areas of the mass both of which were neg for cancer. Peg tube was placed for later chemo indwelling cath was placed and cone chest tube was placed for drainage of fluid due to according to surgeon of the tumor causing irritation of the pleural sac.
Avatar f tn I have been living with GERD since birth for sixteen years, i have been in and out of the hospital and had more tests done to me then you can imagine. Most of my summers have been in Driscol's Children Hospital in Corpus Christi Tx. I am on a strict diet, not eating anything spicy or late at night. I don't eat anything with dairy since i'm lactose intolerant, i am allergic to almost everything edible and my dad is diabetic so my mothet and i eat practically his diet.
Avatar f tn Does esophageal cancer cause white phlegm with tiny bubbles?
Avatar f tn Personally I think he should have a gastroscopy to make sure that he doesn't have an Esophageal problem and they will also check the different sphincters to see if they are working properly. It wouldn't hurt to have an allergy check but if he hasn't had a gastro and he is over 50 then I would have it checked as well as have a colonoscopy. The phlegm could be from the banana so stop getting bananas for awhile and see if that helps.
Avatar n tn Complete eradication was achieved in 77% of 48 patients, with a 10% rate of major complications including hemorrhage, esophageal stricture, and esophageal perforation. Although these observations indicate that high-power APC can eradicate Barrett's epithelium in some patients, it is not clear that this expensive and hazardous therapy conveys any clinical benefit.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor to see if anything was wrong but he felt there was really no reason to do any invasive tests. I have started to read about pancreatic cancer and liver cancer and I am just wondering if there was any possibility of this happening to someone my age?
