Xeloda and rectal cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Xeloda and rectal cancer

xeloda

Avatar m tn After one three-week cycle my doctor discontinued the Xeloda. I was able to complete treatment with the oxiliplatin. This was in 2004 and I am cancer free today. Ask your mother's doctor for something else. If possible she should not stop chemo until her doctor is certain no trace of cancer remains in her lymph system. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Your question would probably be best answered by someone in the expert forum. I do know though, that my father was given Xeloda for his lung cancer. The doctor described it as a "smart drug" which attacked cancer cells.
408448 tn?1286883821 Anyone ever use Xeloda pills? It is for colon cancer, but has been used in ovarian too. More for mucinous type. My cancer got pretty active on last treatment.
Avatar f tn Hand-foot syndrome is a condition where the palms of the hands and soles of the feet become reddish, swollen and develop pain and tingling sensations. Sometimes, rash or peeling of the skin in the palms and soles also occur. Reducing the dose of Xeloda can help decrease this side effect. Applying ice packs and skin lotion can also help relieve the burning sensation and dryness. Another option which your grandmother can take is to discontinue Xeloda altogether.
Avatar f tn 5KGS AT 5FT HEIGHT, WE ARE TREATING THE METS WHICH HAS GONE TO HER LUNGS AND BONES AND LIVER WITH XELODA 1GRAM TWICE A DAY FOR 14 DAYS, AND THEY SCARED US WITH THE SIDE EFFECTS,BUT WE ARE ALSO GIVING HER HOMEOPATHY. WE ARE GIVING A GOOD NUTRITIONAL DIET ALONG WITH A PROTINEX SUPPLEMENT. ON 5TH OF FEB IS HER APPOINTMENT WITH THE ONCO. I HOPE XELODA HAS ARRESTED THE GROWTH OF CANCER CELLS. IF IT HAS CAN YOU TELL ME HOW MANY CYCLES CAN SHE TAKE WITHOUT IT DOING MUCH HARM.
484033 tn?1208516117 Yes, that was adjuvant therapy, administered between surgery and ileostomy takedown. (It was originally combined with Xeloda, but I could not tolerate that drug so the Xeloda was discontinued) Prior to surgery I treated with 5FU and radiation. So glad to put that in the past! Just had a follow-up exam and CEA 125 is normal. No lasting problems except the neuropathy in both heels, which is annoying but not a real big deal. Hope your tx goes as well.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with colon Cancer in Feb 2007. He took chemo drug Xeloda and had standard radiation. During a check up in January 2008, tumors were found in his lungs- one in each lung, sizes: 7mm and 13mm. He took chemo: Folfox, Avastin, Oxaliplatin, and Xeloda until April 2008. The April CT scan revealed that the tumors had grown slightly and that there were four more small nodules visable.
Avatar f tn ya...but it seems mom has two different cells one is in breast and other in liver (some he3+, i guess) ,for oncolet the breast cells are being controlled but not the liver cells ,thats why disease has reoccured in liver ,is what the reply the doctor gave me,so in order to control both, mom needs to take oncolet and xeloda together....
Avatar f tn My mom took Xeloda also as a maintenance drug for colorectal cancer. Typically diet and exercise do not affect CEA levels; however, inflammation can affect it. Sometimes CEA levels will rise if there is any type of inflammation. I know this is a scary time. Feel free to send me a message if you need to talk.
Avatar f tn Within a month, the breast cancer started in her skin around the site of the node. She now has a red rash (skin mets) in approx half of her chest wall and is getting Chemo (Xeloda) and Herceptin. My question is, the skin is beginning to "harden" around the node removal surgery site. What does this mean? Any other comments on Skin mets would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn s attending physician for proper management. The CT scan findings showed breast cancer with metastasis or spread of the cancer to the other organs mentioned. Factors such as her complete medical history, symptoms and results of other diagnostic tests are important considerations also. Take care and best regards.

Avatar n tn My onco tried me on taxol, and avastin, then xeloda. Neither of these worked. He suggests that I try Jemzar. I have stage IV mestatic breast cancer that has spread to my spine. I was dx in Feb 2002. I have previously been on different chemo.surgery, hormonal.. arimidex, aromosin, fasoldex . and several radiation treatments. I am undecided on doing any more chemo. My cancer , of course , is er/pr positive. Is there any advice on this chemo. or is there another hormonal I could try.
Avatar f tn WEll I finally went to a colon and rectal dr and he did some lighted scope just looking at rectal area, and he said he saw nothing bad at all, but wants me to have a colonoscopy to figure out why I have red in bowel movements. Sometimes its streaked red and other times its maroonish looking and other times theres like maroonish clots in it. Sometimes well only like once there was a small purplish maroonish) clot on toilet paper, so I am really scared about colon cancer at my age.
Avatar f tn My husband is 51 and his cancer is stage 2 he will need chemo and radiation for 8 weeks then surgery 8 more weeks later he has a 50% chance of having a permanent colostomy I'm pretty upset about it
Avatar n tn I'm 44 female. I've had rectal itching on and off X 1 year. Had some hemorrhoids since having children. Had a bout of rectal bleeding with pressure in 2006, had colonoscopy ( 2-2007), negative excpet for mild proctitis. Used Canasa supp, symptoms went away.( endoscopy that year, normal as well) Saw GI 4 months ago, did rectal, felt that itching was hemorroids, continue with Proctosol HC cream which works. Not getting worse, pretty much staying the same, maybe a bit better.

Avatar f tn I suggest that you type in rectal bleeding to google and click on to one of the many sites - the Medicinenet site is particularly informative. From the description of your condition it sounds as if the cause might be one of the minor conditions such as anal fissure, haemorrhoids etc etc. BUT - rectal bleeding is never normal and so please seek medical advice.
Avatar n tn I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosed, and very sorry it has reoccued. I hate cancer! I hope your oncologist comes up with something that works. Cancer stinks!!
Avatar f tn this is regards to Colon cancer. If she is dealing with Rectal cancer, then she will need surgery and possible chemo and radiation. If she is dealing with Colon and Rectal cancer, then she will need all the above. Her treatment plan will be under the discretion of her physician, so it is really difficult to say exactly how he/she will approach this as physicians don't have the same exact approach in treating this.
Avatar f tn I think a triaged approach to what you want from your treatment would help and am sure you discussed this with your doctor. First and foremost, that the treatment is effective and purging the cancer and putting you into remission. But retaining your hair can also be on the list of things you would like. Lower on the list, but there.
Avatar n tn Rectal bleeding is never normal and should always be medically investigated by a G.I. specialist. For possible causes, google rectal bleeding and click onto one of the many sites - the Medicinenet site is particularly informative. You do not say how old you are but the more serious causes of rectal bleeding (colon cancer etc) are unlikely to arise before you are age ~40/50 plus. Unless your G.I. specialist can positively prove that the cause of your bleeding is minor (e.g.
Avatar n tn i am 55 and have rectal cancer. Have had chemo and radiation. I have chosen not to go ahead with the operation of removing my rectum and having a permant bag....have been a smoker for 35 years and dont think the body would take this major surgery. The chemo and radiation has shrunk the tumor....has anyone pulled out of the operation, from what i read and see on utube its pretty damaging to all the body....is there a alternative way???
Avatar n tn In April 2008 the last 20 of these biopsies where taken and one positive core was found from the left side, showing 1 mm and 2 mm cancer nodes (Gleason 3+3). The right side did not include cancer in these biopsies. Now I have received the final pathologial report of prostatectomy and this shows that I have a relatively large cancer e.g. a 15 mm tumor nodulus on the right side and on the left side a 10mm tumor (Gleason for tumor is classified as 3+2).
Avatar n tn As a start, type rectal bleeding into google and click onto one of the many sites. The Medicinenet site is particularly informative. This will give you more information for when you visit your doctor - which I suggest you should do urgently. Rectal bleeding is never normal.
