Avatar f tn Your question would probably be best answered by someone in the expert forum. I do know though, that my father was given Xeloda for his lung cancer. The doctor described it as a "smart drug" which attacked cancer cells.
Avatar f tn WHEN MY MOTHER HAD BREAST CANCER AND HER BREAST WAS REMOVED, SHE WAS GIVEN 6 CYCLES OF CHEMO AFTER WHICH THE DOCTOR TOLD HER SHE WAS CURED. BUT AFTER 1YEAR 8 MONTHS THE CANCER CAME BACK AS METS. LATER WE CAME TO KNOW THAT SINCE SHE IS HR2+ HER CANCER IS AGGRESSIVE. THE DOCTOR KNEW THIS AND HE ALSO KNEW THAT AFTER A PERIOD OF 1.5YRS THE CANCER WILL STRIKE BACK BUT HE DID NOT WARN US SO AS TO LET US BE AT PEACE WITH THE SITUATION, THOUGH HE KEPT A 3 MONTLY CHECK UP ON HER.

Avatar f tn s attending physician for proper management. The CT scan findings showed breast cancer with metastasis or spread of the cancer to the other organs mentioned. Factors such as her complete medical history, symptoms and results of other diagnostic tests are important considerations also. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn Hand-foot syndrome is a condition where the palms of the hands and soles of the feet become reddish, swollen and develop pain and tingling sensations. Sometimes, rash or peeling of the skin in the palms and soles also occur. Reducing the dose of Xeloda can help decrease this side effect. Applying ice packs and skin lotion can also help relieve the burning sensation and dryness. Another option which your grandmother can take is to discontinue Xeloda altogether.
Avatar m tn After one three-week cycle my doctor discontinued the Xeloda. I was able to complete treatment with the oxiliplatin. This was in 2004 and I am cancer free today. Ask your mother's doctor for something else. If possible she should not stop chemo until her doctor is certain no trace of cancer remains in her lymph system. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Within a month, the breast cancer started in her skin around the site of the node. She now has a red rash (skin mets) in approx half of her chest wall and is getting Chemo (Xeloda) and Herceptin. My question is, the skin is beginning to "harden" around the node removal surgery site. What does this mean? Any other comments on Skin mets would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn My onco tried me on taxol, and avastin, then xeloda. Neither of these worked. He suggests that I try Jemzar. I have stage IV mestatic breast cancer that has spread to my spine. I was dx in Feb 2002. I have previously been on different chemo.surgery, hormonal.. arimidex, aromosin, fasoldex . and several radiation treatments. I am undecided on doing any more chemo. My cancer , of course , is er/pr positive. Is there any advice on this chemo. or is there another hormonal I could try.
408448 tn?1286883821 Anyone ever use Xeloda pills? It is for colon cancer, but has been used in ovarian too. More for mucinous type. My cancer got pretty active on last treatment.
Avatar n tn I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosed, and very sorry it has reoccued. I hate cancer! I hope your oncologist comes up with something that works. Cancer stinks!!
484033 tn?1208516117 Yes, that was adjuvant therapy, administered between surgery and ileostomy takedown. (It was originally combined with Xeloda, but I could not tolerate that drug so the Xeloda was discontinued) Prior to surgery I treated with 5FU and radiation. So glad to put that in the past! Just had a follow-up exam and CEA 125 is normal. No lasting problems except the neuropathy in both heels, which is annoying but not a real big deal. Hope your tx goes as well.
1298675 tn?1286550183 On July 13, 2009 we found stage 3, grade 3, IDC left breast cancer that is HER 2 + and 2/7 nodes positive. I choose a Lumpectomy which lead to a horrible infection for many months. A nurse packed and unpacked the breast leaving chemo delayed and a lot of pain daily. The PICC line caused two blood clots and Arixtra shots are given daily in my tummy. By late November Herceptin was started and chemo followed in December.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with colon Cancer in Feb 2007. He took chemo drug Xeloda and had standard radiation. During a check up in January 2008, tumors were found in his lungs- one in each lung, sizes: 7mm and 13mm. He took chemo: Folfox, Avastin, Oxaliplatin, and Xeloda until April 2008. The April CT scan revealed that the tumors had grown slightly and that there were four more small nodules visable.
Avatar f tn My mom took Xeloda also as a maintenance drug for colorectal cancer. Typically diet and exercise do not affect CEA levels; however, inflammation can affect it. Sometimes CEA levels will rise if there is any type of inflammation. I know this is a scary time. Feel free to send me a message if you need to talk.
Avatar f tn The tumor is making a bigger and bigger lump on my chest wall and has grown into the muscle and the chest wall itself. I have been warned that it could break through and that would cause really unpleasant results. I am taking Xeloda and hoping that will help shrink this huge tumor. I cannot take infusion chemotheraphy for this as my side effects were so extreme the first time that Xeloda seems to be my only choice.
Avatar f tn My question is, can someone, with cancer as severe as hers is, (its in her lymphnodes and lower back as well, but, liver cancer is extensive and advanced, had cancer 1st 3 yrs ago, did a lumpectomy, and treatment for 8 months, then 4 months later it was back, then did a total mastectomy, treatment for (chemo) for 6 mo, was still on Herceptin when she became jauntice, tests revealed liver cancer) can someone live on the combination drugs (Tykerb, Xeloda) for years?

Avatar f tn There are numerous other single agent drugs with good activity in metastatic breast cancer, such as Paclitaxel (Taxel), the anthracyclines doxorubicin and epirubicin, docetaxel, and gemcitabine. The use of single agent chemotherapy is associated with less treatment-related toxicity as compared with combination therapy. If one stops working, the patient can be switched to another one. There are also newer drugs currently in clinical trials that may prove useful.
Avatar n tn My former oncologist (he fired me because I missed an appointment) reviews my bloodwork results every 4 mos., but has never order a scan and I am taking Tamoxifen. My sister-in-law had breast cancer 5 yrs ago and she was taking Tamoxifen. She recently found out that the cancer had metastasized to her brain. It did not come back in her breast either. Her oncologist also only looked at her lab results for the past 5 yrs. and never ordered a scan.
Avatar f tn I think a triaged approach to what you want from your treatment would help and am sure you discussed this with your doctor. First and foremost, that the treatment is effective and purging the cancer and putting you into remission. But retaining your hair can also be on the list of things you would like. Lower on the list, but there.
254544 tn?1310775732 Routine testing for HER2 is recommended for most women diagnosed with breast cancer because the results may affect treatment recommendations and decisions. Whenever breast cancer recurs or spreads, the cancer cells should be retested for HER2 as well as for hormone receptor status, as these can change from the original cancer in up to 20 to 30 percent of cases. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please discuss this with your oncologist.

Avatar m tn My mother had colon cancer 1 year ago, had surgery and chemo. The cancer is back and is stage 4 and in the peritoneal cavity. She is 76 years old. The doctors are not giving us much hope for treatment relative to quality of life. We are seeking a second opinion with our doctors blessing. I have been searching the internet also. I feel that we are quickly loosing her.
