Xeloda rectal cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Xeloda rectal cancer

xeloda

Avatar m tn After one three-week cycle my doctor discontinued the Xeloda. I was able to complete treatment with the oxiliplatin. This was in 2004 and I am cancer free today. Ask your mother's doctor for something else. If possible she should not stop chemo until her doctor is certain no trace of cancer remains in her lymph system. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Your question would probably be best answered by someone in the expert forum. I do know though, that my father was given Xeloda for his lung cancer. The doctor described it as a "smart drug" which attacked cancer cells.
408448 tn?1286883821 Anyone ever use Xeloda pills? It is for colon cancer, but has been used in ovarian too. More for mucinous type. My cancer got pretty active on last treatment.
Avatar f tn She has brest cancer since 8 years, is 74 years old and has a 4 centimeter tumor on her sternum (breats are clear), some on her axilery and maybe it has mestastasized in her lungs (we won't know until her next cat scan in 3 weeks. She was for 2 years on that red liquid chemo (forgot the name) but now the doctors switched her to Xeloda since 2 weeks. The side effects are terrible. Her feet are swollen, hurt terribly, nausea etc.
Avatar f tn I HOPE XELODA HAS ARRESTED THE GROWTH OF CANCER CELLS. IF IT HAS CAN YOU TELL ME HOW MANY CYCLES CAN SHE TAKE WITHOUT IT DOING MUCH HARM. ALSO BY THE GRACE OF GOD SHE HAS NOT ENCOUNTERED ANY OF THE SIDE EFFECTS. A LOT OF LOVE, CARE AND PRAYERS ARE GOING ALONG WITH THE TREATMENT. I HOPE GOD DOES A MIRACLE THIS TIME. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF TAKEN FUTHER WILL XELODA HARM HER, SINCE THE FIRST COURSE OF 14 DAYS HAVE BEEN TAKEN WELL.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with colon Cancer in Feb 2007. He took chemo drug Xeloda and had standard radiation. During a check up in January 2008, tumors were found in his lungs- one in each lung, sizes: 7mm and 13mm. He took chemo: Folfox, Avastin, Oxaliplatin, and Xeloda until April 2008. The April CT scan revealed that the tumors had grown slightly and that there were four more small nodules visable.
Avatar f tn All the other drugs are just supportive medication. Xeloda is a cytotoxic (kills cancer cells) oral chemotherapy drug. Oncolet is a form of hormonal treatment designed to reduce the circulating estrogen in your mother's body, thereby reducing the growth stimulus of the cancer cells. I'm not sure how the two drugs are being given to your mother, but it would be better to stop Oncolet while she's still taking Xeloda.
Avatar f tn My mom took Xeloda also as a maintenance drug for colorectal cancer. Typically diet and exercise do not affect CEA levels; however, inflammation can affect it. Sometimes CEA levels will rise if there is any type of inflammation. I know this is a scary time. Feel free to send me a message if you need to talk.
Avatar f tn Approx 1 year later she had a positive node/nodule removed. Within a month, the breast cancer started in her skin around the site of the node. She now has a red rash (skin mets) in approx half of her chest wall and is getting Chemo (Xeloda) and Herceptin. My question is, the skin is beginning to "harden" around the node removal surgery site. What does this mean? Any other comments on Skin mets would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn s attending physician for proper management. The CT scan findings showed breast cancer with metastasis or spread of the cancer to the other organs mentioned. Factors such as her complete medical history, symptoms and results of other diagnostic tests are important considerations also. Take care and best regards.

484033 tn?1208516117 I'm grateful to be cancer free since 2005. Yes, that was adjuvant therapy, administered between surgery and ileostomy takedown. (It was originally combined with Xeloda, but I could not tolerate that drug so the Xeloda was discontinued) Prior to surgery I treated with 5FU and radiation. So glad to put that in the past! Just had a follow-up exam and CEA 125 is normal. No lasting problems except the neuropathy in both heels, which is annoying but not a real big deal.
Avatar n tn My onco tried me on taxol, and avastin, then xeloda. Neither of these worked. He suggests that I try Jemzar. I have stage IV mestatic breast cancer that has spread to my spine. I was dx in Feb 2002. I have previously been on different chemo.surgery, hormonal.. arimidex, aromosin, fasoldex . and several radiation treatments. I am undecided on doing any more chemo. My cancer , of course , is er/pr positive. Is there any advice on this chemo. or is there another hormonal I could try.
Avatar n tn I'm 44 female. I've had rectal itching on and off X 1 year. Had some hemorrhoids since having children. Had a bout of rectal bleeding with pressure in 2006, had colonoscopy ( 2-2007), negative excpet for mild proctitis. Used Canasa supp, symptoms went away.( endoscopy that year, normal as well) Saw GI 4 months ago, did rectal, felt that itching was hemorroids, continue with Proctosol HC cream which works. Not getting worse, pretty much staying the same, maybe a bit better.
Avatar n tn Although you are quite young to have developed colo-rectal cancer, it is not unheard of in young people, especially those with family history of the disease. Please speak to your doctor about your grandfather and your symptoms and ask for colonoscopy. Good luck.

Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with rectal cancer during colonoscopy then last Thursday he had surgery transanal excision to remove tumor but while in there dr realized it was more invasive than he first thought and only took a second biopsy now he s talking about MRI and chemo and radiation to shrink the 2 cm tumor he said it's either stage 2 or 3 I'm really scared he has bleeding and thinner stools I wonder if dr is being conservative to avoid a colostomy this wait is killing me we are not m
Avatar f tn As you have posted your question on the colon cancer forum, I suppose that you fear that this may be the cause. It is highly unlikely because colon cancer is very rare under the age of ~40. I suggest that you type in rectal bleeding to google and click on to one of the many sites - the Medicinenet site is particularly informative. From the description of your condition it sounds as if the cause might be one of the minor conditions such as anal fissure, haemorrhoids etc etc.
Avatar f tn I think a triaged approach to what you want from your treatment would help and am sure you discussed this with your doctor. First and foremost, that the treatment is effective and purging the cancer and putting you into remission. But retaining your hair can also be on the list of things you would like. Lower on the list, but there.
Avatar f tn t know what exact stage of Colorectal cancer she has or if she is dealing with Rectal cancer or Colon cancer or both. I am assuming it is probably localize. If it is indeed localized, she will need surgery and possibly chemo will be ordered; this is regards to Colon cancer. If she is dealing with Rectal cancer, then she will need surgery and possible chemo and radiation. If she is dealing with Colon and Rectal cancer, then she will need all the above.
Avatar n tn 15 years ago I was diagnosed with stage III rectal cancer. I underwent surgery for the removal of my rectum and subsequently received both radiation and chemotherapy. I have been cancer free since. In addition to experiencing ED as a consequence of the surgery, I also suffer what I believe to be chronic IBS: multiple BMs, and frequent urges every day to evacuate, gas, bloating, loose stools, and fecal leakage, especially while I'm asleep.
Avatar f tn My question is, can someone, with cancer as severe as hers is, (its in her lymphnodes and lower back as well, but, liver cancer is extensive and advanced, had cancer 1st 3 yrs ago, did a lumpectomy, and treatment for 8 months, then 4 months later it was back, then did a total mastectomy, treatment for (chemo) for 6 mo, was still on Herceptin when she became jauntice, tests revealed liver cancer) can someone live on the combination drugs (Tykerb, Xeloda) for years?
Avatar f tn Hi There, It is very common for colon cancer to spread to the ovaries. Under the microscope, ovarian cancer has a very different look than rectal cancer. If your sister had one of her ovaries removed and she has a biopsy or removal of her rectal cancer, then these two biopsies can be analyzed and compared. You should ask your sister's doctor about this.
Avatar n tn The same virus that is implicated in causing most cervical cancer is also thought to cause most rectal cancer. So, keeping a close eye on the cervix and ovaries is important. You should also continue to get regular pap smears. Ovarian cysts are very common and odds are with you that it is a benign cyst. If you continue to get the recommended checks on time, then you will catch any changes early. My thoughts and prayers are with you for healing!
Avatar n tn My boyfriend is in his 20s, very active, eats well, not on drugs, he doesn't drink heavily, and for the last few months he has had blood in his stool. His stool is almost always loose and there will be blood in the toilet and on the toilet paper. Most recently there has been more blood than ever. He says he never has pain, he just constanly feels like he needs to go to the bathroom, but he isn't constipated, because he goes often. His brother is a cancer survivor, could this be cancer?
Avatar f tn I have never seen any in it, just always on it. It is bright maroonish red. I am 33 and scared to death. I have been to a rectal dr. he did a rectal exam of some kind in the office. Not sure what he used. Had a light on it and he said nothing was abnormal at all. he then said he felt i should get colonoscopy to find out why I am bleeding. Sometimes it is streaked all the way down on my reg bowel movements.
