Breast milk medication

Common Questions and Answers about Breast milk medication

Avatar f tn Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether promethazine passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Older adults may be more likely to have side effects from promethazine." Zofran/Ondansetron is also used in pregnancy. I felt safe using this during pregnancy as I have known more women who have used it without any problems.
Avatar f tn Atenolol is pregnancy category D and it also passes through breast milk. It should not be used during pregnancy unless your doctor tells you to do so. Micardis is pregnancy category C (during first trimester) and D (during 2nd and 3rd trimester) and it enters breast milk. It should not be used during pregnancy unless your doctor tells you to do so. I recommend you talk to your doctor about your situation before making any changes.

Avatar f tn Hi mums! I'm currently 20wks with baby number 4 and thinking about breastfeeding vs formula. My 1st baby was born at 27wks and I expressed for 9 weeks with the help of medication as my milk supply was low. Baby number 2 was full term and I breast fed and expressed plus the help of medication for about 7 weeks and gave up then due to low supply. Baby number 3 was full term and again I fought for about 5 weeks with expressing, breastfeeding and medication before I gave up.
Avatar f tn I was given medication to help my milk flow as my daughter was born at 24 weeks and could only use breast milk as to not rupture her bowels but my milk supply hadnt kicked in.
Avatar m tn my doctor discontinued risperdal because it caused milk in my breast. that was june 8.......... well i still got milk in my breast.... now what?
Avatar f tn I think it is quite normal. I lost my boy at 19 weeks and had a lot of breast milk and extremely sore and swollen breasts for the first 2 weeks and still get small amounts around my ovulation now. I now how upseting this can be at such a sad time for you. I bought some breast pads to soak up the milk and tried not to over-stimulate my breasts ie going under the shower.
1191262 tn?1366763021 Most websites say that it is not recommended to breastfeed as it is not well nown if the medication passes to the maternal milk...This idea stresses me. Do you have any thoughts or information regarding this aspect? Thanks in advance. P.S: My ObGyn who knows nothing I assume about liver deseases said it is probably safe as even though it passes through, it will just protect the baby more? The thing is, this medication is not prescribed for babies...? I really don't know what to think.
Avatar n tn Is your milk still in? I had a similar problem but mine was a little different because I didn't stop pumping but my milk decreased a lot because I had to go on a business trip and could only pump about once maybe twice a day. So for a week when I got back I started pumping every 2 hours with 2 power pump sessions a day. I also started taking fenugreek and mother's milk tea. It was a very very slow start and I though I was not going to get my milk back..
Avatar n tn would a woman be able to squeeze breast milk out of her breast when she is one month pregnant?
Avatar f tn Hi ladies, I'm 27 weeks with my first baby and unfortunately due to medication i can't breast feed. What will happen to the milk i naturally produce? Will i need a breast pump to 'empty' myself? for want of a better phrase!! Lol.
Avatar f tn t stress if you end up having to switch to formula. I believe in breast milk and you should try to up your volume and formula is ok too. It's not the devil that some people make it out to be. Just make sure those babies are fed momma. You'll get to take them home soon. Hang in there. Don't beat yourself up.
7381226 tn?1394931519 I plan on breastfeeding again, with my last child I did but only for about 3mths I had some medical problems which had me on certain medication that lead my breast milk to be unsafe for baby. I know I'll most likely have to pump since I did last time because my milk supply was pretty good and had to pump when baby wasn't hungry. I had a evenflo breath pump and it was horrible, what pump has worked best for y'all breastfeeding mothers?
Avatar n tn I am a working mom and I'd love to give my baby a healthy milk which come from my own (breastmilk) but then since i'm working on a night shift it's really hard for me to adjust my time on breast feeding my baby, sometimes I use the breast pump just to feed her. Now she's turning 4 months, my left breast doesn't seem to produce milk any more. My question is, Is there any vitamins or tablets that i can take just to increase the quantity of breastmilk?
Avatar f tn I have never really gotten any milk from my left breast, the right one I can feel the milk coming out and she prefers that side and the left she just doesn't care for. I always start with the left side, but is there any way I can build my milk supply in both breasts so I can feed her less formula. Any advice, I would like to do it without medication if possible.
Avatar f tn If you have sores on your nipple or areola (darker skin around the nipple), you should stop breastfeeding on that breast. Pump or hand express your milk from that breast until the sore clears. Pumping will help keep up your milk supply and prevent your breast from getting engorged or overly full. You can store your milk to give to your baby in a bottle for another feeding.
