My sister in law takes her blood sugar reading with a One Touch Ultra Smart tester. She gets a reading of 440. Sometimes the numbers are even higher. How can this be so high without major problems? My husband took his reading and got 86. She is a believer of herbals and supplements. Could one of these make a false reading? We have tried to get her to go to a Doctor, but she won't.
I've always had problems with this even before pregnancy and I think it's my blood sugar. I try to always keep peanut butter crackers or a protein bar in my purse for when I start to feel bad and it seems to work!

If you have problems with low blood sugar that is called hypoglycemia. Anybody can become hypoglycemic, especially if they aren't eating enough or have a high metabolism. You could talk to your doctor about your specific situation but it sounds like your nurse already gave suggestions about eating more often to keep your sugars up to a normal level.
While it is normal to have a rise in blood sugar level after a meal, excessive rise in blood sugar levels could indicate inappropriate dosage/ timing of injecting the insulin or excessive or inappropriate proportion of carbohydrate in diet. You could start by slightly lowering the carbohydrate and increasing the protein portion of diet. If this does not seem to help, I would suggest consulting your treating endocrinologist for adjustment in dosage/ timing of the insulin.

I am also having trouble with low blood sugar. My blood sugar goes from 44 to 255. I know normal is 80-120 .
At the Diabetes clinic they said if mine dropped from 50-70 to take gluclose tabs, 8, but my body is reacting like a normal one. I take 4 at 44 which is life threatening low.
I also notice that lately it's dropping after I eat which I don't understand.

My now 6-year-old son has been having episodes upon waking in the morning, which were happening about twice a year, but have increased in frequency to once every one to two months. He is lethargic, extremely weak (explained by him as having no power), and is very pale. Every time this happens, he will not wake on his own. Nearly every time, something sugary with recover him quickly, although sometimes he will vomit before we can even make it to the kitchen.

If your mom is diabetic and with weight problems, I would suggest that her blood sugar levels be determined. Also, a duplex scan of peripheral blood vessels in the extremities and evaluation of her pulses may be necessary. If varicosities are present, then all the more that we need to rule out a vascular condition.
Aside from itchiness, does your mom complain of pain associated with walking or prolonged standing?
No morning sickness, (knock on wood), I guess it's the fact that I quit smoking marijuana, therefore, no munchies and no junk food, Well barely any :) due to elevated blood sugar. My mother in law asked if I was having twins :/ seems like I'm losing weight everywhere, just not my belly. When he had a seizure Friday I called 911 and the paramedics checked his blood sugar and it was 218 and they thought he might be diabetic. 8 hours later we took him to the health department and they checked his sugar (by drawing blood from his arm) and it was 112 and they said he wasn't diabetic and that the finger ***** test wasn't very accurate. They thought that the seizure caused his sugar to go up. The last time he had ate anything was 12 hours before the seizure.
Hi i m male 29.weight 95 kg.my question is regarding my blood sugar.5 days ago randomly after heavy dinner i checked my bs and home gluco meter said 225 after almost 2 hours.then i checked half hour later and it was 182 after 3 and half hours it was 103.225 was high so in morning i went to lab with gluco meter and they picked blood from vein and tested on gluco meter ist it was 103 and in lab 87.lab technician told me that go home eat drink tea with sugar and come back after two hours.
But this morning I got really lightheaded and a headache all of a sudden(which I know is normal in pregnancy) but I checked my blood pressure again to see if that was it, and it was perfect. So I checked my blood sugar and it was 79, I had just had a fruit smoothie. The medical assistant at work told me it was low, and then another told me it was slightly low. My question is does anyone know what it should be? I go to the Dr tomorrow so I will ask him, but I'm just curious.
