5538989 tn?1514398453 Solumedrol is known to cause problems with the A1C counts - increases in sugar levels on steroids are common. Were you predisposed to diabetes before you were diagnosed with MS? It may be just coincidence that your sugar is up, but well worth having the discussion with your doc. Can you get information from SS about the 1% and share that with your neuro? If you suspect the copaxone is to blame, your instinct might be right. Is the oral med you are referencing a drug for sugar control?
Avatar f tn But if the person is still in their honeymoon phase then their own body still produces some insulin which further affects blood sugar. However there are other things that can affect blood sugar including illness, stress and even more subtle things for some such as temperature, hot showers, etc.
Avatar n tn Have you heard of insulin resistance? This may be partially to blame for hypoglycemia if it is "rebound", meaning her blood sugars may not sharply exceed the high levels, but if she eats a heavy meal -especially one high in simple carbohydrates- several hours later it "crashes" giving her hypoglycemia. It was explained to me that the insulin triggers becomes overreactive and dump a large amount of insulin in response to the free sugars in her system.
7543158 tn?1391978069 That little test he does apparently keeps showing an average blood sugar of 130 when I know that to be untrue. I have a glucometer and check my sugar regularly throughout the day. I've even shown him my meter's log and he still won't believe me about my spikes and crashes. He believes I'm just overly worried and that it's all in my head. What do I do?
Avatar m tn Hey Sassie, personally I wouldn't buy my supplements from Now foods. Never know what's actually in them, they don't do well on random testing. They're a discounter, and you know, you get what you pay for. Probably not a problem with glycine, as there's only two manufacturers of amino acids basically that make them for everyone, but just sayin'. There are different theories about blood sugar.
Avatar n tn You should test it at various times including fasting (before breakfast) and two hours after different meals to see how certain foods affect your blood sugar. A goal some of us use is to have our fasting under 100 and our after meal blood sugar under 140. Do you watch your diet (limit carbs)? Do you exercise? Maintain a good weight?
1773856 tn?1314322216 The millions thing he is talking about is called your viral load, which is how much of the virus is in your blood. Don't let the word millions scare you as it is very common for someone with hep c to have a viral load in the millions. Mine was at 11 1/2 mill when I first found out I had it. The more important ? to ask your doc is what genotype are you as that will directly affect how to treat the hep c should you decide to.
Avatar n tn I suppose my summary is that high blood sugar can affect sexuality and so can plenty of other things... Some of these, including DM management, are partly under our control. I can ocmpletely relate to how awkward it is to bring up this subject in an already-hurried doctor's appointment. At some point, it may be helpful to do so. Good luck and check in again. I'm sure you're brave question will trigger other replies.
Avatar n tn 1. can HIV affect the blood sugar and raise it (if its there)? 2. can the high blood sugar rate affect the accuracy of the test I did? 3. what is my risk factor? 4. do you recommend another test?
Avatar f tn I m Type-1 diabetic from last 15 years and my blood sugar level used to be under control but from last 2 Weeks, my sugar level fluctuates a lot. Fasting blood sugar is nearly around 300 : before dinner around 500 and after dinner its around 400.There is no change in my diet, exercise or my daily routine pattern. Even I take short acting insulin(novorapid) when my sugar level goes beyond 300 but it doesn't make much difference. I m really worried.
17593698 tn?1458185817 Snacks are always a difficult thing, you now have to consider how every little thing effects your blood sugar. What works for me are snacks that are low in carbs and packed with protein and fat (mostly protein). Nuts are a good choice, just look for lower sodium options. Jerky and other dried meats are good as well. Also consider fresh fruit but beware tropical fruits (Mango, pineapple, papaya, etc.) these are particularly heavy on sugar relative to size.
Avatar f tn s good that you do not have it. High blood sugar from diabetes, rather than low sugar levels, is more commonly associated with damage to the eyes. But you should also mention the low blood sugar issues to your doctor, as well as any other major elements of your medical history. There might be something else that seems unrelated but could be affecting your eye health.
Avatar f tn Can having a head cold and my monthly cycle affect my blood sugar. I'm new to this; could the area I stick my finger affect it as well. The lady from the diabetes center said to stick on the side. Slept most of the day. Had steamed broccoli with garlic sauce on the side and wonton soup and a homemade smoothie with fruit yogurt and oatmeal and fresh fruit kiwi and a banana how could my blood sugar be 201. I also had 1/4 of grapefruit and almonds and peanuts.
Avatar n tn My sister in law takes her blood sugar reading with a One Touch Ultra Smart tester. She gets a reading of 440. Sometimes the numbers are even higher. How can this be so high without major problems? My husband took his reading and got 86. She is a believer of herbals and supplements. Could one of these make a false reading? We have tried to get her to go to a Doctor, but she won't.
Avatar f tn You should get GTT or glucose tolerance test, fasting blood sugar, post prandial sugar done and glycosyltaed hemoglobin measured to know whether you have diabetes or not. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Believe it or not salt can affect your blood sugar ...
Avatar m tn the past week or so she has felt really sick and finally i convinced her to go in to the ER nex thing we know her blood sugar was like 1300 and she s type 1 diabetic which diabetes seems to run in her family... shes home now and were having a hard time figuring everything out... every time we check her blood sugar she is around 280 to 400 somethin..... isnt her target way lower than that??
Avatar f tn I've always had problems with this even before pregnancy and I think it's my blood sugar. I try to always keep peanut butter crackers or a protein bar in my purse for when I start to feel bad and it seems to work!
Avatar f tn You should check two hours after eating for a more reliable indication of diabetes or blood sugar problems, before a meal you should be between 70-99 and two hours after you should be 140 or below.
Avatar f tn If blood sugar levels are too high or too low, a person will not feel as energetic as when they are normal. If too low, the brain's distress may cause loss of sex drive as the brain struggles to fuel itself with whatever emergency glucose it can find. This should be only temporary if blood sugar levels are the cause. However, in males, possible nerve damage from the disease can cause more long-term problems. Please discuss this with your endocrinologist.
Avatar n tn My wife has never had hi blood sugar, only low. The doctors told her she has neuropthy from the sugar because she has terrible pain in her legs and feets. Recently she was diagnosed with tendenitis in her ankle and put in one of those big boots. Is it possible something else is causing her paid such as low potasium or calicium. Or maybe even a medicine she is taking for her thryroid, blood pressure or vertigo? I long thought she was miss-diagnosed and that we may be barking up the wrong tree...
Avatar f tn If you have problems with low blood sugar that is called hypoglycemia. Anybody can become hypoglycemic, especially if they aren't eating enough or have a high metabolism. You could talk to your doctor about your specific situation but it sounds like your nurse already gave suggestions about eating more often to keep your sugars up to a normal level.
