I was treated with antibiotics (Augmentin) appx. 4-5 weeks ago for a very bad sinus infection. I felt better and then appx 2 weeks ago I developed more symptoms, dental (teeth) pain, headaches, extreme tiredness, ear congestion, and finally went back to the doctor. He said that my throat glands were swollen and gave me a different anibiotic. I have been on the antibiotics for 4plus full days.
ve googled and see that some potential causes are cellulitis, hypothyroidism, tooth abscess, allergies, trauma, infections, inflammation, I think lupus?, and cancer. I have had some recent dental issues (infection, teeth pulled, roots left too long after a tooth fell out). Has anyone had this? So weird. I mean, I guess I should assume it's from the dental stuff, but I just had another panoramic xray, and the dentist said everything was fine.
Treated with Omnicef, Augmentin, Cliacin, Rocephin Shots, Bactrim, etc. Also on Claritin/Singulair at 10 months for sinus/allergy issues.
-Myringotomy at 12 months, with 10 day run of Augmentin and 6 day run of antibiotic ear-drops post-op.
-2 subsequent ear infections from 12-16 months. Treated with Augmentin, Bactrim. Still on Claritin/Singulair for sinus/allergy issues.
-Second myringotomy and adenoidectomy at 16 months. Very infected sinus cavities and ears.
I have the exact same symptoms! I felt like I was reading my own story when I read your post. For me it Started 5 years ago after a root canal. Don't know if that has anything to do with it, but coincidental that you had that same issue. I have not been able to find a doctor that can help. It's not yeast, not bv, not std, low ph. My money is on lactobacillus overgrowth! Super frustrating! I take a bath most every day and completely rinse everything out.
4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness.
Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
I was told that I had a very severe sinus infection and was place on Augmentin 875 mg twice daily for 10 days. I slowly began to feel better but I was still having the severe pain. Nothing helped. Again, I was told this was normal. I was also told that it could be TMJ causing all the pain and was instructed to do jaw exercises, limit talking and to only eat soft foods. Last week, 6 weeks after the dental bone graft, the protective membrane was removed.
I had a hysterectomy 4 weeks ago (large broad lig fibroid) and I hoped that might make a difference. last week got an infection, was given augmentin for 7 days (again) and 2 days after finishing the course, it is now back again. Heavily swollen, very tired, uristrip showing white blood cells, protein, cloudy pee.
I questioned my doc as to why they keep coming back and she says she doesn't know, she is not a 'clever doctor', and just keeps giving me 7 days augmentin.
so I took my STD test but before I got the result I panicked thinking of gonorrhea or syphilis and took Augmentin for 3 days. Month later my PA prescribed me a zpak with nasal spray which was a few weeks ago. Still hasn't helped. I tried using a neti pot, cleaning my house constantly from dust and trying to find any mold. I am concerned because in addition to these abscesses I also have had repeat strep throat infections where all of the infections have come back positive for Strep Type G (never type A). Like the abscesses these infections present quickly (less than 12 hours) and within a day I have a fever and severe pain. Additionally the throat infections have been progressively getting worse (i.e. they are now prescribing pain relievers so I can eat).
I just finished a round of Augmentin for a sinus infection! Which I'm sure is the culprit. Also I use softsoap body wash. My husband and I haven't had sex since before the symptoms started. Thanks for all the info guys!
An initial root canal had been too shallow, had left some of the infected root in the tooth, and allowed the infection to progress into a nearby tooth, into my jaw, and all over my head. I became extremely ill for months (bedridden with the most severe flu-like illness). Both affected teeth have now been removed - under one the oral surgeon found a bone infection, he said the bone was mushy and he had to remove some of it.
I have been type 1 diabetic for 11 years now. Actually it is normal and common for blood sugars to rise during sickness and infections I would suggest maybe straining some tea made out if cinnamon or applying it directly to his infection as I have done this on various occasions and it is know to have antimicrobicrobial and antiseptic properties to help with infections and also helps the body to posses insulin more effectively and is known lower blood sugars.
They then put in a pic line and gave me 3 daily doses of gentamyacin , and 10 days of zosyn . ( zosyn ran for 20 hrs per day and genta for 1hr) . Waited 14 days did another sputum and they told me pseudonomas has colonized but I have 2 new infections STENOTROPHOMONAS MALTOPHILIA and SERRATIA MARCESCENS.... The infectious disease doctor did not want to treat them , in fear of me getting c-diff.
Although Augmentin kills certain types of bacteria and is used for lower respiratory, ear, urinary and sinus bacterial infections, does not necessarily mean it will get help a sore throat.
To find out what type of bacteria is causing the sore throat and which antibiotic will kill that bacteria is to get a swab taken of your throat to identify the bacteria and then the correct antibiotic will be prescribed.
I have recently battled a sinus infection following a head cold. Treatment w/Augmentin helped the symptoms of the SI, but simultaneously I developed a very stiff neck pain. Augmentin always makes me feel "strange". Coincidence or related . Maybe others have experienced same?

If I were your treating dentist, I would look for other potential source of infection. In the mean time, if augmentin and clindamycin are not effective, I would try erythromycin family drug, such as azithromycin or clarithromycin , paired with metronidazole(flagyl). If itis possible, antibiotic sensitivity test can be done in the lab to determine which antibiotic is most effective for the cultured bacteria. Hope this helps.
He concluded that I have a dental abscess and need surgery to remove a tooth. He gave me amoxicillin. Took that for 10 days. Pain goes away. Told me the infection needs to be cleared before surgery and to wait on my quote from my insurAnce.
See my allergist again for follow up and he says to only come back if I have hives again and sends me on my way. (Not possible with antihistamines in my system.) he didn't perform a single test or lab he said he would.
