Augmentin for dental abscess

Common Questions and Answers about Augmentin for dental abscess

augmentin

Avatar n tn I have pitting edema in my face (if I poke my cheeks with my finger, an indentation stays behind for a bit). It's worse on the left. My face isn't really puffed up like the moon or anything. I've always had chipmunk cheeks, and I'm overweight, so Idk, but they are pitting. I've googled and see that some potential causes are cellulitis, hypothyroidism, tooth abscess, allergies, trauma, infections, inflammation, I think lupus?, and cancer.
Avatar f tn I presume that you have finished the course of the antibiotics about a week ago. If that is the case, make an appointment with your doctor. Although the abscess is draining the "plug" needs to be removed. If the "plug" of the abscess has not come out, the abscess will continue to fester. As the abscess is oozing slowly means that you have an open wound and because of that you are unable to apply a magnesium sulphate drawing ointment.
Avatar f tn Funny enough, just on Monday, my father needed his tooth number 7 removed due to an abscess and need for an implant and I only removed the tooth, we will wait a few weeks and then place the graft at that time (in his case he has lost much bone on the front part of the jaw bone) and then place the implants. I would recommed a CT scan always.
Avatar f tn I had an abscess in my right breast 10 years ago and it left a little lump after it healed. Two weeks ago I developed an abscess in the same spot. My GP recommended a week of antibiotics (Augmentin) and it started to drain on its own two days back. I feel a thickened area which hasn't gone down. Should I be worried? The abscess continues to drain slowly and I have covered it with sterilized gauze. Please help.
Avatar m tn by the time i got to the er the doctor told me that my abscess was 1 inch by 3/8 of an inch big. that is pretty large for an abscess. with something like this the longer you put it off the worst it will get. hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn I was on antibiotics (augmentin) before the surgery, which I continued due to the abscess but the day following the root canal, my face is very swollen, from the nose to below the jaw bone and slightly pink. It is not hard and not terribly sensitive today. What could have happened to cause this swelling and do you think the abscess has not been completely resolved?
Avatar f tn 4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness. Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
Avatar f tn It took longer for the clindamycin to work this time, and a new doctor concluded I may have developed some resistance to it after being on it for close to 2 months at that point. I was put on Augmentin, but this did nothing for the infection and only made me swell (hands, abdomen, throat) after a few days. But, when I was restarted on the clindamycin, the clindamycin worked better that time - more quickly - so maybe the Augmentin had been doing some good I don't know.
Avatar f tn You can go to a local dental school or contact your local dental society for a free clinic possibly. I think for California, medicaid doesn't cover dental anymore for adults so it may vary from state to state. It sounds like you have an abscess. Go to your primary care doctor and get a prescription for the infection to at least keep it under control while you find a dentist.
Avatar n tn The abscess can occur at different regions of the tooth for different reasons. A periapical (per-e-AP-ih-kul) abscess occurs at the tip of the root, whereas a periodontal (per-e-o-DON-tul) abscess occurs in the gums next to a tooth root. The information here refers specifically to periapical abscesses.
Avatar n tn A tooth abscess is usually a complication of tooth decay. In a dental abscess, or tooth abscess there is accumulation of pus inside the teeth or gums. The abscess usually originates from a bacterial infection and is mostly caused by a dental infection. The common presenting complaints are severe toothache, breath odour, fever, pain when chewing, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling of gums, swollen glands etc.
Avatar f tn I went to the hospital since my dentist is not available on weekends and I found out I have a dental abscess. I am in a lot of pain and I have been taking amoxicillin and tyenol. Is amoxicillin safe? I know the doctor wouldn't prescribe it if it wasn't but I still feel paranoid. And how much tyenol can you take in a day, I'm taking regular strength.
1399266 tn?1280637104 My 8 year old cat, Kupid was diagnosed with a dental abscess about a week ago and put on clindamycin 1 ml twice a day. When she started she had a pink drainage coming from her right eye and right nostril. Her eye has gotten better and her nose has slightly improved. She is still sneezing and looks terrible but she is eating on her own. This cat has failed the pre anesthesia test twice after having complications during her spay surgery so we are reluctant to put her under to pull her tooth.
Avatar f tn Would any of the following blood tests be affected by a dental abscess? https://m.imgur.
Avatar n tn I still need 2 crowns upper right, and one crown lower right with a few more cavities filled. My dentist says there is no signs of dental abscess, but I have been having a lot of bad symptoms that seem to be getting worse. I feel really ill all the time. All my teeth hurt, It comes, and goes for what seems like no reason at all. My face feels tight, and puffy sometimes. My eyes burn. I get headaches, and sensitivity to light.
Avatar f tn I also think it is because of dental abscess.
Avatar f tn I was taken off clindamycin mid-treatment (I was feeling dramatically better, but was taken off it before infection was totally gone for blood tests) and am now trying to play catch-up, back on it and augmentin at the same time. Thanks!
Avatar m tn My initial guess is that it may be an abscess. Best to get it checked out by a dentist for proper care.
Avatar f tn He concluded that I have a dental abscess and need surgery to remove a tooth. He gave me amoxicillin. Took that for 10 days. Pain goes away. Told me the infection needs to be cleared before surgery and to wait on my quote from my insurAnce. See my allergist again for follow up and he says to only come back if I have hives again and sends me on my way. (Not possible with antihistamines in my system.) he didn't perform a single test or lab he said he would.
Avatar f tn Had dentist she put a temp filling in a cavitie , reffered me to a dental hospital for it to be removed . She now says I'm now not on her books because I missed an appt . I now have an abcess . Phoned up dental hospital n they said ill be waiting 6mobths for my appt. My Dr won't touch me because its a dental matter . I'm in excruciating pain . I have two masses in my cheek and jaw . I'm taking amoxicillin that I had left over from an ear infection and ibuprofen ..
Avatar m tn I have been on clindamycin 150mg 2 every 8 hours for 4 days with a gum abscess. Its still hasnt come to a head yet, and very painful , I can feel a heart beat in it.Was wondering how long will it last. And is there any way to make it come to head. Had mini dental implants put in 3 years ago with 4 up top ,, and the gum abscess is right on top of it .
Avatar m tn I have a dental abscess on upper molar. It has been drained and I am taking antibiotics, but now my lower jaw is starting to hurt. Can this abscess be spreading from upper to lower?
Avatar f tn I have an abscess tooth and I have a dental pick and I've been trying to keep the infection under control I recently pulled out something orange and stringy this is concerning to me anybody know what it may be
Avatar m tn If it turns out that it is a tooth responsible for the abscess, it needs to be taken out as as the abscess is completely gone. Don't wait or the abscess could come back worse.

619150 tn?1247048274 Thank you for your reply, living with this is a pain and wonder if it could be a cause to sinus problems. I have a appointment with a dentist after the first, if I can afford it, still trying to find a dentist here in Missouri that will accept medicaid. I would still like to know the symptoms of the infection spreading to the brain. I have a "tension" like pressure in my forehead, the sides of my head and sometimes just a pressure feeling "inside" my brain.
