Because I had been previously diagnosed (and treated with 1000mg Amoxicillin three times daily) with a sinus and left ear infection about a month earlier he suspected that I could possibly have some type of resistant sinusitus and prescribed Augmentin XR (1000 mg) 2 pills twice a day. I had oral sex again with the asymptomatic guy again on 4/11. I was informed by the guy who developed gonorrhea of all this today, 4/14, and have not had sex with him since before his symptoms began.
On Friday, June 11th, I was diagnosed with otitis media (middle ear infection) and placed on Augmentin and pain reliving drops. I am still experiencing pain as if someone is stabbing me in the ear, it is keeping me awake, and my ear is completely blocked with what feels like fluid. I stil feel awful and cannot get comfortable at all.
Should I return to the doctor? My ear is hurting me a lot and I am having pain into my kneck and terrible headaches.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Currently diagnosed with double ear infection of middle ear and sinus infection not responsive to augmentin (newly prescribed ceftin). Currently suffering from severe pressure in head behind eyes only alleviated by anti inflammatories like toradol shots (pain medications do not work for head pressure/pain). More information available on my profile (detailed history). Am on 6 month waitlist for specialist. Doctor has confirmed through blood test there is immune deficiency but not specified.
I've had a mild headache (2-4/ 10 pain scale) for the last three months. My doctor has put me on 6 weeks of augmentin, but it didn't help. I'm getting a sinus ct next week. I have enlarged parotid glands as well as lymph nodes. I'm dizzy at night and sometimes my headache gets so bad that I can't function. Migraines and tension headaches have already been ruled out. Any ideas? I would really appreciate it if anyone knows anything.
Look into Candida, yeast overgrowth. Symptoms fit and the history of antibiotics, ear infections, AND allergies all point towards candida. In fact, I would put money on it. If I were you, I would read the book "The Yeast Connection". It really gets into the cycle that antibiotics create and how it allows the candida to grow and create the problems that doctors once again treat with antibiotics.
I had a silver point root canal in 1987 and have had problems since 1990. Began with ear problems, then the sinus, thyroid, tinnitus, facial pain, mastoid pain problems began. Had the offending tooth pulled in 2010. Days after a fistula appeared on the gum and I suffered massive head pain as the infection drained. However the infection persists. Had tooth x-rays, CAT scans, MRI s, seen a dozen doctors, dentists , ENTs. Nobody believes me.
I had an ear infection last week and was put on Augmentin for the first time. By Thursday I had developed a bad case of thrush with blisters down my throat! They stopped the Augmentin and started me on Nystatin, Ear drop antibiotics, and Vicodin for the pain Friday. By Sunday afternoon I had awful leg cramps and yesterday morning the pain was so bad that I had to go to urgent care. They drew labs but said they felt I was allergic to the vicodin. Gave me a steroid shot and steroid pack.
Although Augmentin kills certain types of bacteria and is used for lower respiratory, ear, urinary and sinus bacterial infections, does not necessarily mean it will get help a sore throat.
To find out what type of bacteria is causing the sore throat and which antibiotic will kill that bacteria is to get a swab taken of your throat to identify the bacteria and then the correct antibiotic will be prescribed.
I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working.
I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18.

so I took my STD test but before I got the result I panicked thinking of gonorrhea or syphilis and took Augmentin for 3 days. Now the tests are all negative but considering the window period for some STD, should I finish taking Augmentin as a precaution to get rid of the possible infection? Thank you.
I can’t feel any lump on my neck, but I am having hard time swallowing. After a week, the back of my ear starts to ache and now I can feel the pain inside my ear, even though the pain is tolerable I’m afraid that this is more than sore throat. Every time I try to speak the lower part of my neck is getting heavier. There are no rashes or ulcers neither in my mouth nor on my tonsils.
I felt better and then appx 2 weeks ago I developed more symptoms, dental (teeth) pain, headaches, extreme tiredness, ear congestion, and finally went back to the doctor. He said that my throat glands were swollen and gave me a different anibiotic. I have been on the antibiotics for 4plus full days. The dental pain has diminished but I still have headaches and my glands still feel swollen but worst of all I still have no energy ! I have three children so that can be difficult !
This is technically known as a Traumatic Perforation and can be verified by a doctor looking into your ear and seeing the hole in the ear drum.
Now what should you do (besides scheduling a visit to your doctor...!)...
1. Stop Swimming. If water enters the ear, your ear will begin to feel heavy and start discharging due to an infection of the normally sterile middle ear.
2. Stop pressurizing the ear constantly.
Leading up to the tooth/roots extraction, I had some left ear aching and fullness and aching down the left side of my neck and around my lower left occiput (bottom of skull behind ear). I also had tinnitus, which is long-standing but seemed worse recently, and worse in the left ear. Hi, Im 48 and until recently very healthy (professional choreographer). 2 yrs ago got an acute kidney infection ( high fever, blood in pee, the works) which was treated with augmentin. since then, I keep getting less acute infections and they come back every 3 months. Low fever, very tired, abdominal swelling (a lot), back pain, urine strips show white blood cells and protein and occasionally nitrates.
She looked in her throat,nose and ears. Asked if she snored...NO asked if has had ear infections....NO then scheduled the surgery next week??? She has had a severe iron deficiency but we have had that under control for about a year. She gets sick alot but with everything so if her tonsils look fine....no strep,tonsilitis ect why take them out? Any thoughts?
ve been experience throbbing pain around upper right teeth, my cheek, front and back of my head, and I have swollen painful gum around my right side of my face, and I right shoulder is aching. And I think lymph nose under my chin is swollen. The right side of my face, neck, around ear and back of my head hurt if I push those areas. But I do not have a runny or stuffy nose. I do know that there is a little drainage going down the back of my throat, but it is really a little amount.
ENT doctors are full of themselves and condescending towards my intelligence and my knowledge. here it is. i had an ear swab get sucked into my ear. it just disappeared with a huge pressure. this was almost 2 years ago. i broke it into 2 pieces trying to remove it myself. that snap was louder than a gun shot. one piece runs up and down beside my earlobe. the other longer piece is buried somewhere further along the ear canal lodged in there. it is very painful.
anyone else have side effects AFTER STOPPING augmentin after the full 10 day dose? I have been off for two days and have awful sweating and hot flashes. I am male, and in relatively good shape. bp has been in the 140/70 range for three days. odd stuff. Ive usually had plain ole amoxicillin, but this stuff takes the cake.
If you wait to late it can turn into bronchitis or ear infection and ear infections are very painful if you have ever had one. If that infection does not clear up after antibiotics then you need a CT scan like I had. You have have a polyps or you may need your sinuses opened to be drained. It is probably just an infection so go ahead and get it checked out because it won't go away. You can also buy some nasal rince irrigation over the counter for $15 and it works sooooo well.
