asacol

Avatar n tn Thanks for the info...I was getting too anxious for the Asacol to work as this is day 5. I was worried that it could be Crohns Disease as My Brother died from Crohns. My Dr. said my Blood Markers did not show for Crohns...however, I am waiting on test results for Celiac. I appreciate your time, Thank You.

Avatar f tn Many, many people have taken Asacol without any side effects. I had Ulcerative colitis for 10 years before surgery and never had an issue. The goal is to protect the colon from creating long term damage.

1483944 tn?1288100910 IBS and Crohn's are extremely different. There really shouldn't be any confusion in diagnosing between the two. The problem at times is diagnosing between Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis as they are parts of a continuous spectrum of the disease. Crohn's is an auto-immune disorder that can occur anywhere from your esophagus to your anus. The location and extent of inflammation and ulcers often are what lead to one diagnosis or another.
Avatar m tn Ulcerative colitis treatment usually involves either drug therapy or surgery. Some drugs that work well for some people may not work for others, so it may take time to find a medication that helps you. If diet and lifestyle changes, drug therapy, or other treatments don't relieve your signs and symptoms, your doctor may recommend surgery. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
Avatar n tn I was told before that they "think" that I have ulcerative colitis. I was put on medication. But after it stopped helping, I stopped taking it, and I was fine. Then just recently I have been feeling horrible. Stomach pain, mostly on the right lower region, gas, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes stabbing pain in my right lower abdomen. I am not pregnant ( that I know of, I have an IUD) And this has been going on for 3 weeks, non stop.
Avatar m tn My brother in law has known he has Ulcerative Colitis for twenty five years, as does my wife. He has been out of work with no insurance for the last year. He has a job now but still no insurance and has had some bad flare ups. Can anyone tell me where to start calling / writing to try to get discounted meds for him? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Pain in the lower abdomen, pelvis can be due to infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, UTI, STD, uterine fibroids, urinary bladder infection or cystitis. If you do not have any discharge and there is no other symptom then it can also be due to pinched nerve (either pudendal or spinal). These conditions are broadly classified as chronic pelvic pain syndrome. The intensity of pain depends on the degree of inflammation and thus compression. This can vary.
Avatar f tn I have lupus and deal with diarrhea everyday. I take an herb that has been a tremendous blessing. It's called Slippery Elm. It coats he entire digestive tract. I take one/daily as a maintance. But on occasion, the symptoms are overwhelming. I'll take (2) several times a day for those stubborn flare-ups. My heart really goes out to you as I know how this can alter a person's life. I'm not familiar with the medicine you spoke of.
4652866 tn?1373428175 3 days ago i was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Its inflammation of the colon and it never goes away. I was very sick for a while before finding out what was wrong. Avatar n tn I was wondering if it was common for pregnant women to get colitis while pregnant. I am 29 years old and 7 months pregnant. This all started when I was 5 months. I had some Indian butter chicken for dinner and the next day I had the runs. From there on it never stopped. It started with strange pain in my intestines and my doctor thought I might me lactose intolerant. But the tests were negative. Then we did parasite and bacterial stool samples and all neg. as well.
Avatar n tn It's possible the drugs may have affected her liver. Keep in mind we aren't doctors here. There is a crohn's and ulcerative colitis forum where you might find someone with experience in this area. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a 47 year old male, diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was 26. Over the past couple of years, I have noticed on occasion that I will have white streaks in my stool. Most of it is a normal color, just with white streaks embedded. Not mucus-y. I've noticed it quite a bit the past couple of weeks. I was on Asacol for many years, but my new insurance company made we switch to Lialda a couple of months ago (three 1.2GM tablets 1x daily).
1019152 tn?1336074292 oh it is ulcerative colitis.
Avatar m tn thanks for posting that story nickbob i have been thinkin about tryin smokin pot but havent really talked to anyone who has actually done it like i really want my normal life back so thank you again and i'll let you know if it works for me oh and u really seen results that quickly (that would be amazing)?
Avatar f tn My son does get down when he is in the midst of a bad flare but has not talked to anyone or gone on anti-depressants. He does have the benefit of a mother who had ulcerative colitis for 10 years so I have been able to help him a lot and he has been able to learn from my mistakes. We tend to think we are invincible at that age. I ended up with a perforated colon 16 years ago and had my entire large colon and rectum removed and a j-pouch built.
739300 tn?1232463324 Hi I'm a college student from NY. I was originally diagnosed with ulcerative colitis last year in Feb and lost 20lb due to bloody diarrhea. I had a flare up last year in August again and took prednisone for a couple weeks and the symptoms went away. I started fooling around around Thankgiving then drank about 16 shots of vodka less than two hours.
Avatar f tn s under control from steroids like once the steroids bring down your flare up u will continue to take pentasa to maintain your colitis control so you could be on it for quite sometime i have never taken pentasa myself thought they have me on salofalk which i believe is for the same thing, just to keep uc under control. not sure if that helped at all but anyways good luck wishing you the best.
Avatar f tn As I have a variety of gastorintestinal conditionns, including ulcerative colitis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease, I thought that perhaps the fungus might possibly have invaded my esophagus or stomach, but having had multiple upper and lower endoscopies, no fungi have been found. However, no culture was done on biopsies of any upper endoscopies I've had. I should mention that I take a fair amount of medications, including Nexium and Asacol, for my health issues.
Avatar m tn If you have Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, you are invited to participate in a research study doing an initial evaluation of a self-help treatment for people with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. The purpose of this research is to determine whether a cognitive behavioral therapy self-help workbook is acceptable and interesting to people with IBDs. Once you agree to participate, we will send you an electronic copy of the workbook.
