Common Questions and Answers about Asacol microscopic colitis

asacol

Avatar m tn . 1. I have just been diagnoised with microscopic colitis, . The Gastro doc wants to treat me with Asacol, but I am suffering from CKD GFRaround 45%.......I told doc and he said ok entercort would be the alternative.
Avatar f tn The only abnormality was microscopic colitis on one of the colonoscopy biopsies. All other tests and antibodies were negative, SED rate was normal, liver and kidney chemistries normal, C-reactive protein normal, no anemia, CBC normal, etc. Doc wants me to start Asacol but the side effects seem worse than my mild diarrhea. Question is, should I take the anti-inflammatory to try and stop the autoimmune process?
Avatar m tn I think the real name of what I have is microscopic ulcerative colitis. I get really bad kidney pain from the Asacol so they switched me to Apriso and I just took as many pills (up to 4 max) a day as I could tolerate. Had to balance a fine line between feeling ill from my disease and feeling ill from the meds but recently (last 3 weeks) I have been able to take the full dose every day without any pain so I guess my body adjusted to the medicine. See your doc and keep your head up.
Avatar f tn Anyway, my doc says that once you treat the underlying colitis, the arthritis symptoms will go away. I take Asacol 400mg 1-2 times daily. This is to keep me in remission. I have felt great since my last flare-up went away. I hope this helps a little bit in a time when you might feel so out of control of your life.

Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?

Avatar n tn My son age 24 was just diagnosed with what the doctor thinks is Focalli Active Chronic granulomatous Colitis. Not sure what this is. I have UC and am wondering if this is simular. Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Microscopic Colitis about a month ago. I'm now taking 9 mgs Entocort daily. My questions are: 1) Is this a normal dose for Endocort? 2) Since being on Endocort, instead of getting adominal pain when my symptoms flair up, it hurts severely to sit down for any extended amount of time. Is this typical? 3) Quite often, I have no feeling in my bladder. Another words, my bladder can be full and I cannot tell I need to go. I only go when I figure it's about time.
Avatar m tn Is there evidence that milk ( lactose ) in ice cream can hurt the patient with various types of colitis? Is there truly an allergic type of colitis from milk in adults?

Avatar m tn Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if it was common for pregnant women to get colitis while pregnant. I am 29 years old and 7 months pregnant. This all started when I was 5 months. I had some Indian butter chicken for dinner and the next day I had the runs. From there on it never stopped. It started with strange pain in my intestines and my doctor thought I might me lactose intolerant. But the tests were negative. Then we did parasite and bacterial stool samples and all neg. as well.
