Avatar f tn Many, many people have taken Asacol without any side effects. I had Ulcerative colitis for 10 years before surgery and never had an issue. The goal is to protect the colon from creating long term damage.

Avatar m tn Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.
1483944 tn?1288100910 IBS and Crohn's are extremely different. There really shouldn't be any confusion in diagnosing between the two. The problem at times is diagnosing between Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis as they are parts of a continuous spectrum of the disease. Crohn's is an auto-immune disorder that can occur anywhere from your esophagus to your anus. The location and extent of inflammation and ulcers often are what lead to one diagnosis or another.
Avatar m tn I wouldn't take the asacol. It actually caused my UC to flare up every time I took it. I thought it was a coincidence the first few times. However there's no doubt that Asacol exacerbates my condition. I have also developed joint problems which I think may be because of all the asacol I've taken in my life. I wouldn't recommend it. Ask your doctor about Lialda or better yet improve your diet. I'm not talking about just eating right.
Avatar n tn I was told before that they "think" that I have ulcerative colitis. I was put on medication. But after it stopped helping, I stopped taking it, and I was fine. Then just recently I have been feeling horrible. Stomach pain, mostly on the right lower region, gas, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes stabbing pain in my right lower abdomen. I am not pregnant ( that I know of, I have an IUD) And this has been going on for 3 weeks, non stop.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was 21 and 10 years later my bowel perforated. I fought to live and was lucky I had a wonderful surgeon who removed my entire large colon and put things in place so that I could have an internal pouch done later that would give me back my bowel function. It is 16 years later and have done so well. Do try the Naturopath but if you can't get the diarrhea under control soon you may have to go back to the Asacol.
Avatar m tn My brother in law has known he has Ulcerative Colitis for twenty five years, as does my wife. He has been out of work with no insurance for the last year. He has a job now but still no insurance and has had some bad flare ups. Can anyone tell me where to start calling / writing to try to get discounted meds for him? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Pain in the lower abdomen, pelvis can be due to infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, UTI, STD, uterine fibroids, urinary bladder infection or cystitis. If you do not have any discharge and there is no other symptom then it can also be due to pinched nerve (either pudendal or spinal). These conditions are broadly classified as chronic pelvic pain syndrome. The intensity of pain depends on the degree of inflammation and thus compression. This can vary.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, I am living this nightmare! I have Ulcerative Colitis and was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I just finished my first round of Taxotere/Cytoxan on the 7th of this month. My UC has been well controlled over the past 10 years. Four days after my first chemo I went into the worst flare of my life. it has been 5 days now and my usual methods of 12 asacol and 2 rowasa have not helped at all. The GI took stool cultures to make sure that there is not infection.
4652866 tn?1373428175 3 days ago i was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Its inflammation of the colon and it never goes away. I was very sick for a while before finding out what was wrong. After starting the medications, im starting to feel better :) little man is still doing great but im wondering if anyone else has gone through this or knows anyone who has. I dont know if i will still be able to breastfeed as planned because i am taking prednisone which is a steroid and i dont wanna hurt baby...
Avatar n tn Then some blood started to show and then mucus and it got worse and worse. I did a flex sigonoscopy and the GI said it is a 95% chance it is ulcerative colitis but the samples he took we would have to biopsy and confirm the other 5%. He recommended that I start on prednisone ( a steroid) on a low dose asap. I do not believe this is the best option for a pregnant woman. So my questions are; has anyone ever see a pregnant woman get her first flare up while pregnant?
Avatar n tn It's possible the drugs may have affected her liver. Keep in mind we aren't doctors here. There is a crohn's and ulcerative colitis forum where you might find someone with experience in this area. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a 47 year old male, diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was 26. Over the past couple of years, I have noticed on occasion that I will have white streaks in my stool. Most of it is a normal color, just with white streaks embedded. Not mucus-y. I've noticed it quite a bit the past couple of weeks. I was on Asacol for many years, but my new insurance company made we switch to Lialda a couple of months ago (three 1.2GM tablets 1x daily).
Avatar m tn If you have Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, you are invited to participate in a research study doing an initial evaluation of a self-help treatment for people with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. The purpose of this research is to determine whether a cognitive behavioral therapy self-help workbook is acceptable and interesting to people with IBDs. Once you agree to participate, we will send you an electronic copy of the workbook.
1019152 tn?1336074292 I recently had a colonoscopy and found out I had colitis .I dont know what kind yet, but it seems like it started shortly after I started my medication. I did have some anal bleeding before that also. I found out I also had hemmoroids. The bleeding started about a year ago and I just assumed it was hemmoroids but it recently got worse over the last couple of months since I started on a new heart medication. Its been that frequent having to rush to the bathroom. So I went to a gastro. doctor.

739300 tn?1232463324 Hi I'm a college student from NY. I was originally diagnosed with ulcerative colitis last year in Feb and lost 20lb due to bloody diarrhea. I had a flare up last year in August again and took prednisone for a couple weeks and the symptoms went away. I started fooling around around Thankgiving then drank about 16 shots of vodka less than two hours.
Avatar n tn Hi there. So sorry you are having to live with this awful disease. I was diagnosed with UC when I was 22. The first 5 years weren't too bad and they were able to treat with just asacol. In later years (and with huge stress in my life - you need to find ways to keep that down) I had very severe attacks that put me in and out of the hospital and on Prednisone. After 10 years my bowel perforated while in the hospital and I had surgery to remove my colon and was given an ileostomy.
Avatar f tn hi there guys been diagnosed with colitis at beginning of november! been quite bad with a few painfull flareups lots of blood etc/ currently on pentasa and steriods at the moment/ started the pentasa last tuesday after a bad flareup/ just wonderd if any one could tell me there experiance on pentasa , and how long they took to work ?
Avatar f tn So I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis just about two years ago and I'm 9 weeks 1 day today, and I've noticed my symptoms of uc are flaring up again, even with being on asacol hd. This poses an issue, because I need to eat healthy for baby. Normally I can adjust what I eat and everything balances out after a few days, but with the pregnancy going on not much of anything sounds good, especially uc safe foods.
Avatar f tn I started Asacol almost two weeks ago, and it worked very well after a couple of days, but after almost two weeks, I got very weak, dizzy spells, fatigue, like the flu. It's been five days, and most of the time I need to lay down. I couldn't go to work today. When does it stop? I stopped the medication four days ago. It was for colitis.
