Avatar f tn Inflammatory diseases of the colon which can present as UC include Crohn’s disease, ischemic colitis, radiation colitis, eosinophilic colitis, colorectal cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and allergic reactions to medications such as mesalamine products, NSAIDs, and antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Which do you have - ulcerative colitis or crohn's? It is important to treat it so it doesn't get bad. I had ulcerative colitis for 10 years before my bowel perforated and I had surgery to remove it and then had an ileal pouch built. My son has severe ulcerative colitis but it is in remission with Imuran. You need to see a different GI doctor.
Avatar f tn Tests rules out bacterial and viral infections and after two colonoscopies, they settled on Ulcerative Colitis. I had the same GI symptoms you are having as well as arthritis in my fingers, toes, ankles, knees, hips, wrists, and shoulders. It was migratory and moved from joint to joint every couple of days. My current GI doc was never specific about what type of UC I have (frustrating), but my first GI doc called my case general UC.
Avatar f tn Hi,I've been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis yesterday and was given 30 x 500 mg suppositories but the consultant said I would have my next appointment in 3 months time.I have to use one per night.Do I use them just for 30 days or should I ask my doctor for some more after 30 days ? It's all very new to me.Any advice would be appreciated.

Avatar m tn Usually bloody diarrhea mostly refers to ulcerative colitis. She had colonoscopy for about 3 times and there was no signs of ulcer, but there was some swelling near the anus. The doctor told that it was proctitis, and treated her. She continued with the treatment for about 2-3 years, but nothing improved. She again had colonoscopy and histological examination inferred that it was ulcer. She is being treated with Mesalamine and now she is well. Please check with your doctor.
Avatar m tn Just found out I've got ulcerative colitis...possible autoimmune connection there I guess. Actually it turns out that I had it when I was a kid, and it went away. Only it doesn't really go away. You're "in remission." Only I ain't in remission any more :( Taking Mesalamine (aminosalicylic acid, an NSAID). This makes me uneasy, as I've heard that NSAID's aren't too cool.
Avatar f tn Last November I had a total colectomy with an ileoanal pull through for ulcerative colitis. The pouch was created during the first surgery but I had a colostomy for a few months while it all healed. In February then I had the colostomy reversed. Since then, I have had multiple complications. At first there was a great deal of pain with bowel movements. That has finally subsided however, I currently have 12 -20 bowel movements a day with several occuring at night.
Avatar n tn Hi, Ulcerative colitis is a form of inflammatory bowel disease . Ulcerative colitis is a form of colitis, a disease of the colon , that includes characteristic ulcers, or open sores. The main symptom of active disease is usually constant diarrhea mixed with blood, of gradual onset. IBD is often confused with irritable bowel syndrome , a troublesome, but much less serious, condition.

There's really no say soo of where this disease comes from but it isn't curable & can be managed with meds. I've been on Asacol but was taken off due to it causing me hairloss. I'm now on sulfasalazine but luckily I've been in remission tha past yr & a half.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in early stage. Right now I am talking Lialda 1.2 mg 3 tablets once a day. The above symptoms have totally vanished. But literally I am not eating any spicy food or fibre food. I want to know the diet plan.I really lost weight. I have a new problem past 2 weeks. Every morning around 6.30 am or so i have a contracting pain in my lower left ribs. It's very stabbing and also I have lower back pain.

Avatar n tn i have had ulcerative colitis for the past 3.5 years is it normal to bleed when i have my bowels open?
Avatar n tn I was told before that they "think" that I have ulcerative colitis. I was put on medication. But after it stopped helping, I stopped taking it, and I was fine. Then just recently I have been feeling horrible. Stomach pain, mostly on the right lower region, gas, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes stabbing pain in my right lower abdomen. I am not pregnant ( that I know of, I have an IUD) And this has been going on for 3 weeks, non stop.
Avatar f tn I have GERT and a weak valve in my esophagus, so I am not well informed with knowledge on ulcerative colitis, however, I can give to you a government website that provides information on all digestive disorders /diseases from A to Z. Go to http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov. On the upcoming webpage, look for link on Digestion, and click. The next page lists the digestive disorders/diseases. Scroll down the list until you find UC.
Avatar f tn Those are symptoms of ulcerative colitis and it doesn't have to hurt to be serious. You really need to get to the doctor and have this investigated.
Avatar n tn I think I have ulcerative Colitis. My stomach usually hurts and I have to go the bathroom frequently throughout the day. A lot of times I suffer from fecal incontinence where i will go back to the bathroom like a half hour after I eat and I will wipe and there will be something on the toilet paper. I do not know what to do. Also, sometimes when i look at my stool there is like a red flake or something, can that be blood? Can blood show up in the form of a flake.
