Avatar n tn I was told before that they "think" that I have ulcerative colitis. I was put on medication. But after it stopped helping, I stopped taking it, and I was fine. Then just recently I have been feeling horrible. Stomach pain, mostly on the right lower region, gas, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes stabbing pain in my right lower abdomen. I am not pregnant ( that I know of, I have an IUD) And this has been going on for 3 weeks, non stop.
Avatar n tn t anemic which very well could be at this point. I would ask for more testing based on your symptoms. Remember that ulcerative colitis is immune system related as well so you want to make sure your doing your best to have a healthy immune system as well. Something else to consider is irritable bowel syndrome. https://www.medhelp.org/gastroenterology/articles/Irritable-Bowel-Syndrome-IBS-Overview/233 Your symptoms seem like an extreme version of those you find with IBS.
277836 tn?1359666174 I am taking the prednisone for ulcerative colitis all biopsys were negative for it but he sent blood work off and it came back positive for uc it was some kind of antibody test
Avatar m tn My nephew is suffering from Ulcerative colitis and hospitalised. He was under treatment and was given Pentasa granules , T PAN (40mg), Tab wysolone and Pentasa Anema. As there was no improvement. Doctor adviced to have Exemptia (Adalimumab) injection. 4 injections (40mg 8ml) was given. Next day he was having stomach pain, tight and rigid stomach, and fast breathing. He was immediately admitted in the nearby hospital and doctor found he was suffering from megacolon (toxic colon).
483733 tn?1326798446 I think taking Imuran is the worst possible thing in the entire world. It did work for me and put my colitis in remission, however the side effects of it are NOT worth it. One of the scariest side effects for me was the fact that long term use of it can cause lymphoma. My doc said for every 1000 people on Imuran one person will get lymphoma, That is not a statistic that I want to be.
Avatar f tn My colitis has still not gone into remission it has been about 1 1/2 years with constant flare-ups. In the past couple of months I have no energy, my whole body hurts all the time. I feel like I have been in a marathon, I just ache all the time. I do not sleep well, I feel depressed, my question is "is this from the ulcerative colitis or could something else be going on? I take six pills a day of Asocal 400 mg.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the kind words. Having suffered from ulcerative colitis myself for ten years since I was 21 I then perforated and had a total colectomy and J-pouch. It definitely helped me to know what was going on with him and for him he was able to take the disease so much more seriously than I did at his age after seeing what I went through. He is at the stage right now where he wants to pretend he doesn't have it since he is in total remission.
Avatar m tn I have ulcerative colitis for a few years, I been in hospital a couple of times but the last time i was in it was due to the pain killing drug meloxicam for joint pain. I am almost sure celelbrex is in the same family, so to speak, as meloxicam.. I ended up losing the lining of my stomach. I had had a problem with anti flams for a while and i new i couldnt take celebrex as i had terrible cramps in my stomach.
Avatar f tn s under control from steroids like once the steroids bring down your flare up u will continue to take pentasa to maintain your colitis control so you could be on it for quite sometime i have never taken pentasa myself thought they have me on salofalk which i believe is for the same thing, just to keep uc under control. not sure if that helped at all but anyways good luck wishing you the best.
Avatar m tn Your answer brought me back to logic for the first time and I checked the symptoms of Pentasa and Ulcerative Colitis and as you said most of the symptoms are related to them. I would like to forward my warmest appreciation for your input and to be honest, the last two months made me suffer but helped me appreciate how much I love my family, life, and God hence no more sexual sins would be committed in this life. God bless you Doctor and regards to Dr. Cumming as well.
Avatar m tn s Foot, 2 blisters on groin, gingivitis x 2 times, block nose, etc... I have Ulcerative Colitis and on Pentasa x 4 pills per day (since 2 years). I had 2 HIV high quality tests and turned out to be negative. But the Herpes IgG was 4.6, urine after 76 days was 8-10 RBC and 2-4 WBC for the first time ever. For the last 5 days I hear my abdomen bloating every hour or two and my stools (once per day) are a bit orange and thin. Your situation analysis would be highly appreciated.
Avatar m tn and the last question is about the relationship between Proctitis or Ulcerative Colitis and taking Isotretinoin (Accutane). do you believe that Isotretinoin (Accutane) cause Proctitis or Ulcerative Colitis ? since when I was young I used this medicine for my acne and I searched in the internet many have the same story with me - I mean using Isotretinoin (Accutane) and then Proctitis or Ulcerative Colitis. what is your idea ?
Avatar f tn My name is brittney. I'm 22 and have had ulcerative colitus for about a year. On imuran once a day and pentasa 4 times a day(neither of which are working). I know most people tend to malnurished and lose alot of weight with this disease< due to all the dhiarria and blood loss and such. I actually seem to be gaining weight. not to much, but not losing anything at all even though having the extreme pain and dhiarria. anyone else experience this?
Avatar f tn The entire span of this illness has been about six weeks, so I caught it very early, and hopefully nipped it in the butt. But I was misdiagnosed with infectious colitis and put on antibiotics for a week, which temporarily subsided the discomfort. However, the symptoms came right back and I had to be removed from school. I couldn't eat and lost 20 pounds in a few weeks. I had every test you could imagine preformed multiple times and visited the doctor usually at least two times a week.
Avatar f tn That is awesome you are doing so great with ulcerative colitis! I'm on Remicade for mine, it is literally the only drug that has ever put me in remission. If you don't mind me asking what are you on for your UC while pregnant?
Avatar f tn More questions about my ulcerative colitis I am really curious about what remission is considered to be for ulcerative colitis. I am still going to the bathroom on some days up to 7 - 10 times a day and it's pretty painful. Also, there is still a lot of blood but no diarrea. I also still get a lot of pain which is not always fixed by dicyclomean. Plus sometimes I run a low grade fever for a week at a time.
Avatar n tn However, I would like to say to I have been plagued with ulcerative colitis for 24 years. I have now been in remission for almost 5 years!!! What happened to bring on a remission period so long? I happened to change my diet due to another health problem. Basically, I stopped buying red meat and cooking it at home: beef, pork, lamb. We now eat lots of fish, and free-run chicken and turkey, as well as vegetarian meals. I still eat it out occasionally, but it is not a mainstay of my diet.
Avatar f tn What are the periods of flare-ups or remission for ulcerative colitis?... "Ulcerative colitis has alternating periods of flare-ups and remission. During remission, the disease seems to have disappeared. The periods of remission can last from weeks to years." *** Springer - Mimics of Ulcerative Colitis... "Infectious colitides such as Clostridia difficile, hemorrhagic E. coli, Campylobacter, Aeromonas, and Salmonellosis can often present as severe ulcerative colitis.
Avatar f tn 16 years age I was diagonsed with ulcerative colitis. My entire colon was removed . I had a temporary iliostomy then 3 months later experienced a successful reversal. Today I am recovering from a ruptured bowel, I once again have an iliostomy, and have been diagonsed with Crohn's disease. The first line of treatment was 4 weeks on Pentasa and Rowasa. Following a scope last week, the crohn's is clear in the small intestine and I am feeling pretty good. (still 30 lbs underweight).
Avatar f tn Does anyone deal with chronic constipation? I have ulcerative colitis but rarely get the usual symptoms. Its a constant struggle to try to be regular, I don't even know what that means anymore! I have pain most of the time. I've tried metamucil, Peg, senna, drinking more water, eating more fibre, etc. I've tried pentasa for inflammation to see if maybe that was the problem.
Avatar m tn What is your diagnosis? Is this Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis?
