Pentasa side effects medication

Common Questions and Answers about Pentasa side effects medication

asacol

Avatar f tn hi there, i have UC (diagnosed in 2001) and have been on asacol most of the time. however, i had about a year of experience with pentasa... the doctor at the time told me that it was the same thing as asacol, however, i found it to be less effective. another doctor later told me that they have the same active ingredient mesalamine, but pentasa reaches a different part of your track... i think asacol stays intact longer, so it gets released lower down in your system.
Avatar f tn As you go up in drugs, the impact and potential side effects go up (e.g. next step would be something like Imuran, then Humira). Have you gotten any blood tests recently? C-Reactive counts, Sedimentary rate, and White Blood Cell counts can be markers of imflammation or a change in something. Vitamin D will probably be low if you're not absorbing anything in your gut (i.e. frequent diarrehea). Personally, if you're at 15x a day, I would go find a different GI.
456090 tn?1259694837 I have been on 500mg 4x a day for the past 4 years. it worked really well for a while, but now it is not. I have been on Entocort for about a month now and it seems to be helping since my last flare up. I also just started taking Cipro which is an antibiotic so well see what happenes.
Avatar m tn He has taken predisone twice but we have always refused the stronger meds due to the side effects and long term effects. He is feeling so awful and he is in so much pain that we are strongly consiering the methodtrexate injections that our dr is offering. Has anyone here had experience with this medication with kids/teens?
Avatar f tn It says that your comment was written in June so it has been a couple months and Im curious... Does 6 MP cause hair loss? It is not one of the listed side effects... did you lose or gain weight? How did you feel on it? Is there anything else worth knowing? How many milligrams did you take?
Avatar m tn Japan has not done any drugs trials for this and prescribed oral pentasa to me, which let to an almighty flare. They prescibed pentasa liquid enemas, then steroids liquid enemas, then oral steroids all the while I am getting thinner, but puffier (thanks steroids!), my knees were very painful and my eyesight was blurry. I flew to the UK (nightmare 12 hour flight) + few hour transfer.

686769 tn?1236272131 I am still waiting for an answer from the pharmaceutical company on the Humira, as I also have NO insurance. I am on Endocort (steroid with a LOT less side effects than prednisone), Pentassa, Depression meds, Trammadol (pain), percocet (pain), azathioprine 75mg. Still, I am in pain almost daily. Every once in a while I have a good day. I am really having a hard time, mentally and physically. I have always been very active, early to rise and then go go go go...
Avatar n tn Since your panic attacks are happening less, are the headaches numerous and a reason that you cannot take the medication anymore? Or are some of the side effects okay with you now that your anxiety is much better? What does your prescribing doctor say about this? Headaches can also be caused by an endless number of factors in my opinon. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you still under a lot of stress? The point is, that the headaches may not even be related to the medication itself.
1495558 tn?1288805527 this does not sound like a normal reaction, and why, for heavens sake, if she is having these side effects, should she stay on it.
1286779 tn?1400012806 She went to a doctor yesterday about her hair and the doctor told her that it was because of this medication (Lydrica) But I have seen all side effects and none talk about hair lost. And my mother does not want to leave this medication because its the only one that works for her burning feet. Has anybody else expirence hair loss with Lydrica? She also takes Cymbalta 60mg,lyrica 75mg, Nexuim 40mg, and Tramabol 50mg. What do you all suggest she get tested for ?
Avatar f tn Hi Jennifer, How are you? Medication side effects may or may not occur to patients. You were given pain medication, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine and antipsychotic/tranqulizer. You may experience gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting and sedative effects. However, it is important that any sign of allergic reaction such as difficulty of breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. twitching or tremor will warrant immediate attention. Take care and do keep us posted.
483733 tn?1326798446 It did work for me and put my colitis in remission, however the side effects of it are NOT worth it. One of the scariest side effects for me was the fact that long term use of it can cause lymphoma. My doc said for every 1000 people on Imuran one person will get lymphoma, That is not a statistic that I want to be. Prednisone is also one of the worse drugs on the market that anyone could possibly take, but I hvae had to a few times. I would rather take the prednisone anyday then the Imuran.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had any side effects from Depakote ER? My 24 year old son was just diagnosed with Seizures, after experiencing several episodes of lost of consciousness. Can anyone out there tell me if they have had constant nausea, fatigue and some heartburn from the medication?
Avatar f tn Did you taper off the vibryd or quit abruptly? You can't just switch from one medication to another even in the same class and avoid withdrawal -- these meds are not easy to stop taking and it must be done carefully. Unless you completely stop taking a medication before starting another it's impossible to tell if your symptoms are a sign you're suffering withdrawal and quit too quickly or are side effects of the new medication.
277836 tn?1359666174 , Lialda®, Asacol®, Pentasa®, Dipentum®, etc.) and prednisolone/cyclosporins. The last two medications have more side effects especially on long term usage. Therefore, you need to discuss with your doctor about the possibility of switching your medication to 5-ASA compounds. However it depends upon the severity of your disease. Management also depends upon the part of the gut which is affected by ulcerative colitis.
Avatar m tn They tested me for TB prior to starting Remicade, which was negative. How old is your Son? I was diagnosed in 2004 and it has been a struggle.I have had 7 abscesses that have put me in the hospital and I have had problems on every medication. I am 46 and my life has been altered to say the least, so my heart goes out to younger people. My mind still wants to go, go, go and my body will not cooperate, so I dont know how the younger group deal with this.
Avatar m tn I doubt this combination would be approved if it was dangerous. But all drugs may have side effects, and if you get bothersome side effects, you should report them to your doctor. Good luck.
501944 tn?1224056021 I've been on 6MP for CD for about 8 months and I have found it to be fantastic! I was previously on Azathioprine for a short time before I developed an allergy to it, and although Mercaptopurine is in the same drug family I have luckily not been allergic to it. Although I had every symptom of crohns, and every side effect of pancreatitis for azathioprine I have (touch wood) remained unscathed by 6MP. Good luck to him!
