Pentasa enema side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Pentasa enema side effects

asacol

Avatar m tn Japan has not done any drugs trials for this and prescribed oral pentasa to me, which let to an almighty flare. They prescibed pentasa liquid enemas, then steroids liquid enemas, then oral steroids all the while I am getting thinner, but puffier (thanks steroids!), my knees were very painful and my eyesight was blurry. I flew to the UK (nightmare 12 hour flight) + few hour transfer.
Avatar f tn hi there, i have UC (diagnosed in 2001) and have been on asacol most of the time. however, i had about a year of experience with pentasa... the doctor at the time told me that it was the same thing as asacol, however, i found it to be less effective. another doctor later told me that they have the same active ingredient mesalamine, but pentasa reaches a different part of your track... i think asacol stays intact longer, so it gets released lower down in your system.
277836 tn?1359666174 , Lialda®, Asacol®, Pentasa®, Dipentum®, etc.) and prednisolone/cyclosporins. The last two medications have more side effects especially on long term usage. Therefore, you need to discuss with your doctor about the possibility of switching your medication to 5-ASA compounds. However it depends upon the severity of your disease. Management also depends upon the part of the gut which is affected by ulcerative colitis.
Avatar m tn i have had crohns for 8 years and i have been on just about everything. i have taken 6mp and i actually didnt have any side effects from it. it didnt work for me but no side effects. make sure she is seeing a gastro who specializes in cd. not all gastros are that great at treating cd/uc. tell her that all the meds they give us say they have all these terrible side effects but it doesnt necessarily mean she will get them.
Avatar f tn As you go up in drugs, the impact and potential side effects go up (e.g. next step would be something like Imuran, then Humira). Have you gotten any blood tests recently? C-Reactive counts, Sedimentary rate, and White Blood Cell counts can be markers of imflammation or a change in something. Vitamin D will probably be low if you're not absorbing anything in your gut (i.e. frequent diarrehea). Personally, if you're at 15x a day, I would go find a different GI.
456090 tn?1259694837 I have been on 500mg 4x a day for the past 4 years. it worked really well for a while, but now it is not. I have been on Entocort for about a month now and it seems to be helping since my last flare up. I also just started taking Cipro which is an antibiotic so well see what happenes.
Avatar f tn I have been on it for the last year straight and am not totally sure how much it really works. I had some side effects from it such as nausea and hair loss to a certain extent. The nausea was fixed by taking it at night which seemed to really help. Being on it did not eliminate me from other meds as I am currently back on prednisone 40mg for a month due to a flareup. Pentasa and Asacol never worked for me either. I guess in short every medication works for different people in different ways.
9827649 tn?1410039233 Enemas are safe. Fleet is the best brand... That's the one they give in the hospital! I have to take an emema (doctor's orders) every 3 days. Due to my severe constipation; because of the side effects of my medications to control hypermesis, IBS and pregnancy in general.
483733 tn?1326798446 It did work for me and put my colitis in remission, however the side effects of it are NOT worth it. One of the scariest side effects for me was the fact that long term use of it can cause lymphoma. My doc said for every 1000 people on Imuran one person will get lymphoma, That is not a statistic that I want to be. Prednisone is also one of the worse drugs on the market that anyone could possibly take, but I hvae had to a few times. I would rather take the prednisone anyday then the Imuran.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your reply. She is already taking Ciproflaxin, plus Flagyl, Pentasa and Welchol. In assition, She was presecribed the steroid enemas to combat ulcers which fomed between the pouch and her anus; which is so contracted (possibly from the lack of solid stool for 20 years?) that with the constant irritation of liquid stool, cleansing and shrinkage she says it too painful to insert the tip of the enema bottle.
Avatar m tn He has taken predisone twice but we have always refused the stronger meds due to the side effects and long term effects. He is feeling so awful and he is in so much pain that we are strongly consiering the methodtrexate injections that our dr is offering. Has anyone here had experience with this medication with kids/teens?
501944 tn?1224056021 I've been on 6MP for CD for about 8 months and I have found it to be fantastic! I was previously on Azathioprine for a short time before I developed an allergy to it, and although Mercaptopurine is in the same drug family I have luckily not been allergic to it. Although I had every symptom of crohns, and every side effect of pancreatitis for azathioprine I have (touch wood) remained unscathed by 6MP. Good luck to him!
Avatar m tn He was under treatment and was given Pentasa granules , T PAN (40mg), Tab wysolone and Pentasa Anema. As there was no improvement. Doctor adviced to have Exemptia (Adalimumab) injection. 4 injections (40mg 8ml) was given. Next day he was having stomach pain, tight and rigid stomach, and fast breathing. He was immediately admitted in the nearby hospital and doctor found he was suffering from megacolon (toxic colon).
Avatar f tn Besides the side effects for the mom is there any harmful side effects for baby I just got back from the hospital and after a four hour visit and them doing nothing but giving me an enema and it doing absolutely nothing I'm getting kinda antsy this pain is horrible and I'm afraid it'll hurt baby worse
Avatar n tn lelet- Phsopho soda is is available at most pharmacies, and is used to prepare the intestines for examination like colonoscopy or barium enema. It is a strong laxative and you will feel the effects for several hours, so don't leave the house! The taste is kind of weird - a bit oily. I have a tough time getting it down even when mixed with something I like, and still have to just hold my nose and gulp it.
Avatar m tn I am 56 year old male, diabetic type 2, have been diagnosed a year ago with ulcerative colitis, they prescribed pentasa as medication, now after one year I for rectal bleeding again, I took pentasa 2000 mg on my own , rectal bleeding stopped, watched my diet for a few days , then I went back to my bad eating habits drinking carrot juice , and tuna with little spices, diarreha came back and today I took 2000 mg pentasa orally, after but was eating sweets , now after a few hours at night bleeding
577603 tn?1217700205 Every time I have a flare up, I KNOW that the steroids are going to be my way to go. Now, they DO have some nasty side effects. I have mood swings, extreme hunger, joint pain, you NAME it. So I wouldn't be surprised if many of these effect are indeed coming from your steroid use. BUT hopefully, the end is in near sight.......My doc. puts me on zantac when I need to be on steroids, and quite honestly, some very low doses of zoloft have helped me too.
Avatar f tn It says that your comment was written in June so it has been a couple months and Im curious... Does 6 MP cause hair loss? It is not one of the listed side effects... did you lose or gain weight? How did you feel on it? Is there anything else worth knowing? How many milligrams did you take?
Avatar f tn VE BEEN TO THE ER AND HOSPITAL 12 TIMES SINCE FEB. ON 17 DIFFERENT MEDS WHICH INCLUDES MEDS FOR DEPRESSION. MY WORLD IS UP SIDE DOWN. CAN ANYONE HELP?
Avatar f tn I have severe constipation due to my IBS, side effects from my medication (I have hypermesis) and from pregnancy in general.
1869943 tn?1322654497 Well it makes me ill hearing about another person in my world and I've been in it for 18. You would think by now with the Millions of dollars in research something would come about. Then like any decease somebody with big money invested as in cancer if they beat it billions of dollars would be lost by those making it, but this doesn't help you now. Ok when you are taking your Prednezone are you increasing your intake of Asacol as well?
Avatar n tn Like a lot of people, I probably had it long before I was forced to address the issue. I am currently on Pentasa and 6MP. All seem to be doing okay. However, recently I have been having a hard time swallowing. I can actually feel everything in my throat. Has anyone else experienced the same? I hate to go through any tests if anyone has suggestions. Wishing everyone long remissions!
Avatar f tn I had similar after my return from a mountaineering expedition . U can also try isabgol . Mix with water and take twice a day . No side effects .
Avatar f tn Now he is 12 years old he has been doing very well on pentasa. I worry because all the medicine he takes at such a young age. He is getting tired of taking so much medicine. I would like to know if anybody knows of a natural diet that works for ulcerative colitis?
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
Avatar m tn Proton Radiation has a 90% cure rate and little to no side effects. I was not sick or even felt bad one single day as a result of the treatments . My PSA is now .07 and I have absolutley no side effects from the cancer or the treatments. It is like I was never sick. My PSA was 4.5 and my gleason was 8 when my prostate cancer was discovered. I dont know if Proton Radiation is available in your country or not.
686769 tn?1236272131 I am still waiting for an answer from the pharmaceutical company on the Humira, as I also have NO insurance. I am on Endocort (steroid with a LOT less side effects than prednisone), Pentassa, Depression meds, Trammadol (pain), percocet (pain), azathioprine 75mg. Still, I am in pain almost daily. Every once in a while I have a good day. I am really having a hard time, mentally and physically. I have always been very active, early to rise and then go go go go...
